Thanks to Accelgor for the banner!
A core is a group of usually 2 or 3 Pokemon together that work toward a specific goal. These goals include breaking through opposing teams (Offensive), covering each other's weaknesses while providing team with a solid set of resistances (Defensive), and checking important threats in the UU metagame while exerting offensive pressure upon the opposing team (Balanced).

The aim of this project is to make the users build core around a particular component. It could be a core that fits a particular playstyle (ex: Tentacruel + Chesnaught + Slowbro would fit a semi stall team as it provides a great defensive backbone that provides the team with hazard control), one that uses a particular strategy (Froslass + Bisharp + Sharpedo-Mega would fit a spikes stacking team as it provides hazards, ways to prevent them from being removed and one abuser in Sharpedo), or a core that includes a particular typing (Bisharp + Scizor would fit a steel spam request as they can easily overwhelm the numerous checks they have in common).

Here is how a post in this thread should look like:

It didn't take me long to come up with this Steel Spam core as I think Scizor + Bisharp is one of the very best offensive cores in this metagame. I've decided to run Swords Dance on both as they have a lot of sweeping potential if their checks have been weakened enough. Bisharp and Scizor usually have some trouble to break through things like Cobalion or Keldeo. However, when they're used in the same team, these 2 pokémons are able to weaken the aformentioned checks so as to sweep with either of them depending of the match up. Other things like Volcanion would usually be able to tank Scizor without much problems but since a lot of players tend to stay in to prevent Bisharp from threatening things like Latias, it's usually able to knock it off which removes it's item and highly damages it in the process. The combination of priorities is highly appreciated for Offensive teams since those are always useful to highly weaken/kill huge threats to Offense such as Aerodactyl-Mega, Hydreigon, Alakazam and most fast threats. Despite being a steel type, Bisharp usually doesn't appreciate switching fairy attacks whereas Scizor fixes that issue rather easily. Despite the fact that these two don't have the best defensive sinergy, they form one of the finest offensive core of the tier.

Each week we'll nominate a component and the community will submit a core that fits it. An explanation of why the core was chosen and how it works is required. You will have Monday through Friday to post, then a voting takes place during the week-end. The winning core will be added alongside to the user who posted it to the Hall of fame and to the UU Core thread.

Here is the Week 2 Request: We want you to build a core around Toxic Spikes. Despite being used less than other type of hazards, Toxic Spikes is a very interesting move that allows to heavily cripple a great amount of pokemons. Toxic spikes are generally useful to weaken certain Pokemons which could allow some threats to put work when they would have been walled without Toxic Spikes. However, there are different means of removing them such as Steel or Poison types hazard remover, grounded Poison types and non grounded defoggers. Your core must focus on the way to exploit Toxic Spikes's full potential, make sure to include Pokemons that can heavily pressure Toxic Spikes remover while also being able to take advantage of Toxic Spikes to damage the opposing team.

Happy posting!

Hydreigon @ Choice Scarf

I think this core is like, really consistent, not only because it puts a lot of pressure on balance and offense builds, but because it doesn't have problems against Dark-types' most painful type to face: Fairy. The Fairy-type is being a nuisance since the start of XY, and things haven't changed too much; Fairy-types are, most of the time, the best answers to Dark- and Dragon-types. This is particularly the most fun Krookodile set to play with, because it can lure any Fairy-type that thinks it can switch in Knock Off and then Earthquake, but surprise! Corkscrew Crash OHKOes Togekiss and OHKOes Bold Clefable after some prior damage. With Krookodile's support, Hydreigon proceeds to wallbreak and revenge kill any kind of Pokemon in the tier.

Team aims to control the hazard game as much as possible with Klefki and Tenta and pressure hazard removers with subroost Kyurem(underrated af) and RoarCM Kou. Kou shuffles around teams when hazards go down and protects me from getting set up on by vincune or w/e. Mews a catch all special wall thats useful for tanking nidoqueen fairy reliably which ohkos over half of my dudes and gives me a rock setter(been considering Celebi tho to be less keld weak). SD Gliscor gives me a nice status immune mon, ground immunity, knock immune and fatbreaker. Not giving the import(yet) cause i might maybe use it in a tour where i need it in.

Ultimate trapping core where you barely have to predict. Eject Button Slowking ensures you can reliably switch out to scarf Krook or Mag to trap things like Latias and Scizor(Eject Button ignores U-turn switching effect). Recycle lets you use the tactic multiple times. It can also be very useful to bring in breakers that have trouble switching in like CB Scizor, Specs Hydreigon, and Infernape.

Break the meta CM core of Raikou + Latias, both Pokemon have similar offensive checks and counters (Krookodile, M-Aerodactyl) which means that one can sacrifice itself to aid the others sweep late game. Versus bulkier builds Raikou is able to beat opposing Latias, Empoleon, Togekiss, Mandibuzz; and Latias takes care of Pokemon such as Hippowdon, Amoonguss, Swampert. This core obviously can't beat offensive checks such as Krook, M-Sharp & M-Aero, as well as defensive checks such as Clefable. That's where Cobalion comes in, providing Stealth Rock, another set up sweeper, as well as a decent check to this cores aforementioned offensive and defensive threats through the use of Shuca Berry. Faster Pokemon around the 115 base speed mark and above were troublesome, M-Aerodactyl was added to alleviate this. Seeing as threats such as Scarf Hydreigon & Keldeo were a problem Choice Specs Primarina was added as a supplementary breaker. Lastly, Gliscor is this teams Ground type, stall annoyer and status absorber.

These two do a very good job supporting each other as well as their teammates as early-game wallbreakers. Type-wise, they Steel and Dragon cover each other very well, with Bisharp offensively checking most Fairies while Hydreigon punishes Ground-, Water-, and Fire-types. I tend to start games with AoA Hydreigon (Seriously, dudes, use this set. It's so goddamn good.), then follow it up immediately with Bisharp, who greatly appreciates Hydreigon's ability to weaken walls. Here's a replay versus BIAF that I think demonstrates this really well. Hydreigon was able to lure and KO Togekiss as well as severely weaken Empoleon early game, while Bisharp was able to take a huge chunk from the predicted Raikou. Thanks to the core's early-game wallbreaking potential, it was just a matter of weakening Starmie and Scizor for my Scarf Keldeo to clean up from there. Here is the team you saw in the replay, and IMO is the most successful one I made featuring this core. It's built around winning with either CM Bro or Scarf Keldeo. Due to the balls-out nature of my main breakers, you have to be a lot more careful with them versus fatter teams, but aggressive plays and reliance on the backbone of Clef-Slowbro can usually get the job done.

A nice darkspam core with the central idea of using AoA Sharp to lure in and KO whatever usually keeps Sharpedo from pulling off a clean sweep such as, Cobalion and Hydreigon, with Low Kick. The lack of SD does make it a tad bit more easier to handle overall for teams that pack very sturdy Pokemon such as Hippowdon, but most of the time Sharpdeo is able to easily beat (and in Hippo's case, yes) them. Overall, this is a really cool core that works great together and fits spectacularly well on Spikes builds.

This is a bit of an unconventional darkspam core, but I like it nonetheless. Crawdaunt is a powerful wallbreaker, capable of smashing several defensive mons in the tier with adaptability boosted STABs, and the pivoting opportunities, lowered offenses, and especially the full heal from Z-parting shot that Alolan Persian provides to Crawdaunt can significantly boost Daunt's ability to get in and do damage to the opposing team.

Pretty basic core, crawdaunt breaks/weakens walls and common counters to absol so that absol can clean up. dark resists like keldeo, chesnaught (non existent), primarina, cobalion, hydreigon, tbh anything that would try to pivot into crawdaunt, absol appreciates being weakened.
This particular combo has worked for me in the past, but you can def switch splash plate for the dark plate or life orb. Sword dance could be swapped for dragon dance if that fits ur team better.
Absol can be SD if you wanna support the absol sweep, or all out attacking if you want this core to be more general. Ice beam i feel is mandatory for gliscors who won't be switching into crawdaunt
Vs Balance, craw daunt basically 6-0s whenever you get it in so U-turn support is nice.
vs stall, crawdaunt also puts in work
vs Offense, the dual priority is quite potent, and adding focus sash to crawdaunt also basically guarantees at least a kill for kill. core could definitely use more speed control tho.

In general this core would probably fit best on offense/hyper offense, so momentum grabbers are 10/10. an additional powerful water or dark mon would also benefit from craw daunt weakening checks and counters. a Latias or other solid keldeo check would also be good bc after a kill keldeo can kinda switch in for free against these 2 so.

Wall breaker and sweeper. As I have mentioned in the past, Hydreigon has very little in the way of viable switch ins - what it does manage to lure in is every Fairy type in the tier. Flash Cannon 2HKOs all forms of Clefable & Togekiss; has a decent chance to 2HKO Specs Primarina after Rocks; and deals decent damage to Klefki. Utilising its powerful STAB attacks, Hydreigon is able to shred the tier, weakening Bulky Waters (in some cases nabbing the OHKO); dealing massive damage to threats such as Cobalion on the switch (with Draco Meteor); and it's also able to U-Turn out of hard counters, such as Blissey & Snorlax.

Sharpedo-Mega appreciates Hydreigon's wall breaking prowess greatly and; Sharpedo can give back in its own way. Once Bulky Water & Fairy type Pokemon and other niche checks such as Cobalion have been weakened or removed; Sharpedo has a great time versus the opposing team. Crunch & Waterfall are obligatory STAB and Psychic Fangs is for Pokemon such as Keldeo - which threatens this core. Sharpedo is also able to 2HKO threats such as Blissey & Snorlax, which give Hydreigon a hard time.

Effective HO teams are able to be built around this core, Hydreigon is able to break down many walls and Sharpedo is one of the best late game sweepers in the tier. Common shared weakness' to Fairy, Bug & Fighting types mean this core synergises well with U-Turn users such as Scizor & Gliscor; giving Hydreigon & Sharpedo ample opportunity to cause havoc.

edit: after some extensive testing I have slashed Destiny Bond next Psychic Fangs on Sharpedo-M, being an effective lure for Fairy Type Pokemon as well as Keldeo, hitting a Destiny Bond gives Hydreigon an early game advantage. Being able to spam Choice Specs Draco Meteor is a terrifying prospect to face.

Here is this weeks request: We want you to build a core around Toxic Spikes. Also tagging Ark so he can add Highways to the Projects Hall of Fame.

I have been using this core for quite a while now and it has been pretty good. Bisharp and Decidueye together form a very anti-hazard removal core. Bisharp is obviously able to take on Defog users such as Latias and Mandibuzz while Decidueye is a pretty decent spin blocker, and it can also take advantage of Poison-types such as Amoonguss and other Tentacruels to set up Swords Dance. Also these 3 mons have really good type-synergy as well.

That is a very cool tspikes core. In this core I decided to put dragalge instead <tentacruel ,because coupled with Bisharp and jellicent form an excellent sinergy. The idea of core it wasn't allow their opponents to not remove the toxic spikes because that are very annoying. To do this I decided to put a very defensive ghost type to not allow to use rapid spin so as not remove the toxic spikes. In case the defog bisharp thank defiant busted it a +2 in attack.[/hide]

Here's a pretty cool tspikes core I've been messing around with lately. SubCM Raikou is a terrific option alongside Toxic Spikes, as most of its defensive checks and counters, such as Hippowdon and Swampert, are grounded and don't appreciate being poisoned. It also sets up on Amoonguss (unless it's the Seed Bomb variant, which people should really use more often), which is one of few grounded Poison-types that can safely switch into them without risking a lot of health. Raikou's already a threat that's pretty slept on at the moment, and tspikes support really complements it well because they provide a bigger window for Raikou to initiate a late-game sweep. Bisharp rounds out the core here by discouraging Defog from the likes of Latias, and it also helps to wear down some of the mutual checks it has with Raikou, such as the aforementioned Ground types.

Note: When using this core, it's important to pack some counterplay to mons that utilize Ground coverage, as all 3 members of the core are Ground-weak.

Here's a team that I threw together based around this core, hopefully some of you will find it useful n_n

Fun versatile core here, focusing on fat status spread, walling common threats and slowly wearing down the opponents team. Working well with Bulky Offence & Balance builds.

Gliscor + Tentacruel are threatened by special attacking threats, such as: Kyurem, Nidoqueen/king, Ninetales, Primarina, Starmie, Raikou etc. Blissey is a nice SpD pivot for its team and can handle these threats easily setting up Stealth Rock, pressuring the opposing team. Toxic hits non-grounded threats such as Hydreigon, Latias, Togekiss etc. Counter is a tad shit, but it can work on more offensive builds and is very unexpected; catching a lot of players off guard - also working well with a Chople Berry. Wish supports the rest of the team, alleviating pressure on Tentacruel.

Standard Gliscor spread is decent versus opposing stall/bulkier builds, EVs allow it to take on bulky waters, such as: Swampert & Mantine (provided no Ice Beam!), as well as the aforementioned non-grounded threats from earlier - one could also choose to run Speed enough for Timid max Togekiss in this case. Ice Fang gives Gliscor decent coverage alongside Earthquake, hitting opposing Gliscor, M-Aerodactyl, Mandibuzz, etc. Knock Off is nice for removing items from fat teams, whilst retaining decent coverage, and Facade is a decent neutral attack boosted by Poison Heal, helping Gliscor deal damage. Gliscor is useful for checking threatening Pokemon, such as: Bisharp, Cobalion, Scizor, Chandelure, certain Gengar, Hippowdon, Hydreigon, Klefki, Krookodile, non-CM Latias, Tentacruel (grounded poison) and Togekiss (if you run speed for Timid max).

Tentacruel has great synergy alongside Gliscor & Blissey. Setting up Toxic Spikes allows this core to function exceptionally well. Gliscor & Blissey are able to manage grounded Poison types and Tentacruel takes on threats to this core such as Keldeo & Scizor. Z-Haze permits Tentacruel a chance at a one time 100% health recovery, as well as a check to bulky set up such as Clefable & Scizor. If you choose to run a z-move on another Pokemon, Acid Spray is your best bet. Pressuring bulky waters & fairies, Acid Spray can force switches, racking up the hazard damage. I've also used sets in the past utilising Tentacruel's decent Speed tier, out speeding Pokemon such as Krookodile and netting the OHKO with Hydro Pump is nice; KOing grounded poison types such as Nidoqueen/king is also helpful. Hydro Pump also has decent synergy alongside Acid Spray.

Looking over this core, it isn't with out its weakness': CM Latias, CM Z-Keldeo, Gengar & Celebi come to mind. Though this core does have weakness' to certain Pokemon it's able to provide any team with a decent fat core, walling the majority of the metagame as well as controlling the hazard game decently. Adding to its versatility, one could opt to run offence and fat builds alongside. Pokemon such as Hawlucha, Aerodactyl, Sharpedo & Latias (to name a few) appreciate the wearing down of other teams, as well as synergising well with this core.
