Moveset Statistics

Interesing Things:

  • Heracross usurped Roserade's position as top dog.
  • Arcanine being used more than Darmanitan, perhaps due to the lack of Sand Stream?
  • Oh, and if you look at the OU Stats, you'll notice Virizion and Mew might drop soon!
  • While you're there, be sure to check out Scrafty's usage.

Anyway, I'll add other stuff to the OP as Antar generates it.

Discuss.

Im shocked to see scrafty used so little its a terror in UU more so if it gets a DD up but i guess scarf herracross stops it which its not shock to see herra at #1 things a monster. ice to see raikou and zapdos getting love i been using those to togeather for a while now and they just rip apart so much stuff. And id love mew to drop back down i love that thing.

Well I've posted my thoughts on the stats that would affect UU so I'll just post a trimmed down version here.

Thank god Chansey usage has gone up, please OU don't make her drop to UU ever again I actually enjoy using special attackers. For potential drop downs:

Tornadus: Rain teams just got back their favorite dancer and offense and with lack Sand Stream and Snow Warning I'm wondering if rain perhaps rise in usage?

Virizion: Well if ever rain does make a comeback Virizion has a pretty good niche~ Yet another fighter not too sure about how Virizion will fare...

Meloetta: I've been on the look out for Meloetta's stats looks like she'll be solidly UU, unless OU this month discovers some type of set that really shoots up Meloetta's usage to offset the previous months. Either way this one looks to be solid at the moment I'm wondering though what sets will be popular? Personally I wanted Meloetta for a Relic Song + 3 attacks, she fits best with the team I have in mind using that set. But if rain does get popular perhaps a mixed set that abuses Thunder, she won't have Jirachi to compete with in that department. Not too sure about CM though I've tried it, and tried it with Ginga's team, I'm just not a fan of that one plus I find it rather bland.

Mew: Oh boy... Sorry I was never fond of this pesky and bulky critter. What I always hated about dealing with Mew was discovering that it was actually a Baton Pass Mew. Mew is far bulkier than other baton pass boosters and has a plethora of different boosts to choose, in addition to being speedy enough to out taunt most hazers or taunters. BTW isn't Mew getting Psystrike from winning the voting event? Guess the CM sets just got a whole lot more powerful.

What is this? Ambipom being used more than Scrafty?! Blasphemy! What the hell does the ladder see in that darn, ugly monkey? It sucks like you don't even know... Scrafty is one of the more dangerous Fighting type threats alongside Mienshao and Heracross, and they use that piece of crap more than Scrafty?

...I won't pretend to understand the UU ladder anymore.

| 31 | Suicune | 8667 | 7.498% | 7215 | 7.528% |
10 spots lower than Ambipom? I guess that's why I'm pretty high on the ladder.

Is it possible to ban a pokemon (Ambipom) for being so bad that it shouldn't warrant usage?

Is it possible for you guys to stop spamming this thread with stuff regarding Ambipom?

I'm really looking forward to seeing meloetta possibly dropping. She looks interesting to use.

Agreeing with Reachzero here-Cofagrigus is a really good pokemon in UU. Unlike Dusclops, Cofagrigus's main competition with as a bulky ghost, Cofagrigus has the ability to go offensive, and when it does it can cause a lot of damage. The OTR set is one of my favourite sets in UU at the moment-and alsomakes a great Heracross counter on offensive teams that don't want to weigh themselves down with the defensive set. Dusclops is unable to do this, and thanks to his awful offensive stats is basically limited to Night Shade/Seismic Toss to damage pokes, and therefore becomes set-up bait for pretty much every set-up attacker in the tier, including Raikou and Substitute Kingdra. This means that not only is Dusclops outclassed in an offensive way, but also defensively since Cofagrigus poses a threat to Kingdra, and has a great move in Haze for stat uppers who think they can set up on him. So please stop using Dusclops-Cofagrigus is superior in basically every way.

And talking about outclassed pokes, what on Earth is Ambipom still doing in this tier? Maybe he was a good lead last gen, but with Bronzong and Rhyperior being two incredibly common leads, as well as the fact that Mienshao does everything he does better and can threaten the majority of leads. I know that everyone who uses Ambipom is a bit of a newbie, but I can't see why they want to use it in the first place since it has nothing going for it. If you want to use a fast frail attacker, then use Mienshao or Weavile. These guys are actually good.

Speaking of Weavile, I'm surprised that he is so low. The fact is that he checks Flygon, Chandelure, Roserade, Mienshao, Zapdos, Nidoking, Choice Band Victini...the list goes on .Dark/Ice STAB's counter so many things it's not even funny, from stall mons to offensive mons. The fact that he can kill many major threats to stall teams including Gothitelle, as well as threats to offensive teams like Crobat and Honchkrow means that he can fit on basically any team. With the possible drop down of Virizion, Mew, Meloetta and Tornadus, I can see Weavile getting a lot more love and usage.

Now what is up with Nidoqueen's usage? It only just moved down to RU, and now it's at number 70? Nidoqueen is actually a really good Pokemon in the lead position, since out of the top ten leads it can beat seven of them-including Bronzong, Mienshao and Sableye (as well as crappy Ambipom) with a moveset of Stealth Rock/Fire Blast/Thunderbolt/Ice Beam with Life Orb and a Modest nature. It also helps against Heraboss-resisting his entire arsenal with ease and roasting with Fire Blast. Queen also has Cobalion covered with ease, as well as Mienshao which is really helpful. You may think that Nidoqueen is outclassed by Nidoking in terms of sheer power(and you'd be right), but Nidoqueen does have it's place in the metagame, since it does basically all that Nidoking does apart from take out special walls with Focus Blast and has better bulk. The speed thing isn't much of an issue, as there really aren't that many notable threats between Nidoqueen and Nidoking apart from Chandelure.

Now about Scrafty-I personally think that he's quite overrated. Sure, Dark/Fighting STAB is pretty good, but he just doesn't have the speed or attack to actually make it work. The fact is that if you want a late-game sweeper, then Heracross is the fighting type of choice. Scrafty may have a better offensive typing, but that means nothing when Heracross can rip through the metagame with his STAB moves. Also, Mienshao has a niche as a nearly unmatched momentum grabber with the SubPass set, and because Mienshao is both fast and strong off the bat and grabs momentum so well and Heracross is just so powerful as a late game sweeper, it's hard to justify using Scrafty over either of them. And the fact that both of them are around doesn't make Scrafty's job any easier, as both can revenge kill him even at +1.

Banned deucer.
Maybe people use ambipom is used because...its actually a fantastic check to heavily offensive pokemon and then by extension heavily offensive teams?!?!?!?!

Fake Out+LO+Technician+STAB=ko's on things like Darmanitan. Return/Double Hit is hurting non-walls/resists. If you think Cofag is about to come in...u-turn away and don't spam fake out to gain momentum. 115 Speed is just really great but nobody acknowledges and it helps it have more utility..possibly trapping Froslass or getting a strong hit on Cobalion or U-turning poor match ups. Is ambipom good on most teams, probably not, but are any of you even attempting to give it a fair trial here... definitely no. Just don't always use Ambipom as your auto lead or if you do, recognize u-turn may be the best option as opposed to Fake out much of the time.

Yeah Dusclops really is outclassed on offensive teams for the most part but hey forgetting about those mammoth defenses is stupid considering it won't be 2hko by obnoxiously powerful moves at full health from things like CB Gon so in your hands you have a good spinblocker for stall teams that can counter things taking advantage of dusclops' passiveness.

Suicune is cool but dies to things you would expect it to counter...like Mienshao and Heracross a bit too much. Beating up all of darm/victini/arcanine/chandelure/houndoom is really cool though.

Weaville has good utility being able to sweep trap and revenge, lacking good stab moves but has amazing attack for UU makes up for it especially with a CB slapped on.

I rather not squeal and whine about anything dropping because we won't know for sure it will...UU users whined very loudly for Chansey to come a couple months back only to have....no chansey lol.

Fighting mons are powerful but I prefer to stick with Fire mons to attack with for some reason...nothing can eat Fire moves well except Flash Fire users but Ghosts in general hurt. This is because Darm has ridiculous power and ability while Victini has ridiculous move base power and still good ability.

Dusclops and Mismagius being used more than Cofagrigus is a joke and a travesty.
This combined with the fact that Gothitella is freaking #57 and still in the RU range is proof enough that these stats are anything but reliable in terms of what is actually good.

I think this point has been emphasized many times. As far as Gothitelle possibly going RU, I do not think it will happen. Shadow Tag Gothitelle is a great revenge-killer and over time, you will see usage jumps because more people will realize this.

Yep. The stats (and tier lists) are simply supposed to represent what is being used, not what is good (although there is a level of correlation obviously).

Why are these shitty Pokemon being used over such great Pokemon?
Once a form of "1337" stats appears in UU based on PS!, I imagine a more accurate interpretation of what's good and what isn't will arise such as Cofagrigus and Gothitelle in the top 15, and Ambipom and Dusclops obtaining negative usage. Although, I too wish that people would quit using things like Ambipom, Dusclops, and Claydol - a few of the terrible Pokemon in UU. It's pushing quite a few interesting Pokemon in the tier to usage limits that don't accurately reflect how good they are.

Usage Stats said:
| 57 | Gothitelle | 2459 | 2.127% | 2024 | 2.112% |
This surprises me, simply because so many people complain about how Gothitelle is so broken and how it wrecks them. You'd figure something that was "broken" would be used by just about everyone. Facing it 2% of the time doesn't sound that bad either, meaning stall and other playstyles can't be considered dead yet. Seems a lot like the sandstorm and its 6.1% usage issue.

Glad that something finally usurped Roserade's title of "king of Underused". This goes to show how quickly the metagame is evolving in response to BW2 and the neat toys that came out of it. Let's see 'Rade drop to 3rd. That would be fun.

Talk about taking a hell of a hit. To go from inside the top ten to outside of it in a month is rather shocking, especially for these two. Looks like their hype is dying down. I will admit, I anticipated Scrafty to hit 15th-ish and for Mienshao to remain at about where it was in July, as their usage would cool down with their testing session over and the hype to die off (DD Scrafty is rather underwhelming really). Didn't expect this much of a drop.

Usage Stats said:
| 48 | Krookodile | 5762 | 4.985% | 4635 | 4.836% |
I anticipated this (considering I did the new analysis). With Moxie Heracross having taken the slot as premier revenge killer in Underused, Krookodile didn't stand much of a chance seeing much more usage. It's too bad really. Krookodile's pretty good once certain Pokemon are removed.

Just throwing this out there now, but these two NEED to be seeing more usage in the Underused tier. They're exceptionally great Pokemon, and both carry great bulk with them. If Gothitelle does get banned (not like it touches these two anyways), Bulky Offense and Stall needs to see more of these two.

| 44 | Dusclops | 6770 | 5.857% | 5803 | 6.055% |
And for the hell of it, I just want to throw my opinion out there, but I feel it's fair enough to say that these following Pokemon should be at least 15 positions lower than they are now. They're basically the worst of what Underused has to offer, and really don't need to be in this tier anymore. RU could use some more diversity.

I'll add more as more catches my eye. To leave it at this, this month's stats have been interesting to say the least.

@Hilarious: The fact is that Ambipom is completely outclassed by Mienshaowho is actually fantastic. Any of the top UU battlers will tell you that Ambipom is absolutely terrible, and they are right. Also, about Dusclops-Cofagrigus can survive 2 Outrage's from Flygon(although you'll need to spin away hazards), and make him take full damage from entry hazards due to Mummy, and can burn Flygon like Dusclops.

@Pokemzter: Those last pokes you mentioned were bang on-they don't deserve their position in the tier frankly. I can't see why you'd want to use Machamp over Mienshao or Heracross, Ambipom is terrible and outclassed by Mienshao(how many times do I need to say it?), Claydol can't spin or wall things, Dusclops is outclassed by Cofagrigus and Registeel is outclassed by Bronzong and Empoleon as a defensive steel.

Actually looking at Meloetta again I just realized the CM set does have a very good advantage over other CMers in that it is a pretty good answer to OTR Cofagrigus. Right now there just aren't very much answers against OTR Cofa punching holes in many teams Ghost + Fighting covers things nicely, but with Meloetta who is immune to Shadow and neutral to Fighting (unlike the common SpD walls P2, Lax, and Umb who end up being set up fodder for more NPs) and with high HP and SpD she could CM up on OTR Cofa. More importantly she can hit him where it would hurt him most, his SpD, which currently P2 is able to hit well.

I have to agree with most people here. Ambipom has been truely outclassed by Mienshao, but people still use it. I've found Ambipom such a deadweight and I don't even need to go on about how bad it is because everyone's who's seen one - which is a lot of people, unfortunately, know this. Aside of Rocks and RS, Claydol is beyond terrible. It can't do anything else and is the definition of set-up fodder. Dusclops is Dusclops. It'd be great in RU, but in UU where a ton of powerful things can set-up with ease, it just lets them do that while doing more or less nothing back to them.

Scrafty and Machamp aren't bad Pokemon, but their role as a bulky Fighting type is nowhere near as preferable as the fast Fighting sweepers that decimate opposing teams.

Cofag and Goth will shoot up in usage without a doubt. I think they just need time for people to realise how useful they are.

Only thing I'm really unhappy about it Suicune. It can still take at least a hit from the boosted Fighting types, but that's not where its merits lie. It eats up all the Fire types and decimates them - even when they have SE moves on it. It's not just that though. It's a great 'mon in general, capable of coming in on many annoying things and remove them with ease, such as Snorlax, opposing bulky Waters, most physical attackers, most non-Grass/Electric special attackers after a CM, etc. It's an amazing 'mon in UU and it's proven itself time and time again.

| 44 | Dusclops | 6770 | 5.857% | 5803 | 6.055% |
I'm in utter awe as to how in the hell these terrible excuses for Pokemon managed to secure over 5% of usage (and in Ambipom's case, close to 10%). Seriously, I know that with simulator moves come with a huge influx of new players, but really. Ambipom's weak as piss, Claydol has no reliable recovery, and Dusclops can't hit anything back - it just sits there and does, well, nothing. Please stop using these, UUers.

| 1 | Heracross | 23333 | 20.186% | 18451 | 19.252% |
It's good to see that one of the best and most reliable revenge killers/standalone sweepers in the tier has finally clambered up to first place on the usage stats. ScarfMoxieCross is just too good, as it accumulates boosts and wrecks much of the metagame in the process.

Clearly the hype surrounding Scrafty has died down, and I'm not really surprised - I find both common variants (Bulk Up and Dragon Dance) to be rather underwhelming in most aspects (assuming SR and a single layer of Spikes, Crobat outspeeds and OHKOes +1 DD Scrafty, and 2HKOes +1 BU Scrafty with Brave Bird. Pfft.)

Disgraceful. Stop using Dusclops and start using something which can also take a hit, but has the added bonus of also being able to hit back.

That's all I have to say.

Mienshao outclassing Ambipom assumes anyone decent is going to use Fake Out on it. Nope.

Ambipom didn't do anything before Mienshao dropped. I saw a bit of potential with CB in the early rounds and even tried it once myself as I saw a respectable player using it during the Hail era. But you can always put a better Pokemon in that slot. Nothing has to to outclass him because his role is not needed anymore. Just use a better Pokemon.

People keep bashing Ambipom... Well, I can see some justice in that, but Ambipom's fake out is hundreds of times better than Mienshao's. That's because Ambipom gets the additional STAB and Technician boost to it. I use Ambipom as a swinger, really... (I also use Claydol and Machamp, so some of you probably don't care). Ambipom is useful for crushing Moxie DD Scrafty. He can also U-turn on a Bulk up Scrafty second turn to a ghost, both attacks have stronger power than if Mienshao will do them. Mienshao is also made of glass. That thing literally breaks itself on pokemon that it SHOULD kill. Send it in vs Registeel/Empoleon and even Ambipom, because Ambipom is faster, and you'll generally come out with a dead Mienshao. I couldn't use it because it kept dying on my basic UU team (Ambipom/Flygon/Mienshao/Confagiorus/Zapdos/Claydol) (Changed Mienshao to Porygon2/evolite)

Let's talk about Machamp... Machamp is the second best Baton pass target in UU, Rhyperion being the first. His massive strength and fair defense, as well as No guard makes him one of the best Curse receivers in the game. His No Guard makes Dynamic punch this extreme weapon that it couldn't be before hand. In fact, if he can't KO it, he can generally get them second turn after they hurt themselves. Stone edge, Dynamic punch or any of the non-100% accuracy moves really excel with him. Why do you think Golurk is always so common in his own tier? Certainly not his bulk or ability to use ghost moves.

Claydol is a weird one. I use him because I believe he's the best spinner in UU because spinners shouldn't die to what they're about to spin out. This is why Tentacruel and Starmie are so good: One eliminates Toxic Spikes on the in, the other recovers from toxic when switched out. Claydol just don't care about spikes. He also can learn a trick setup with choice scarf if you want to mess up the opponent's lead.

Banned deucer.
First of all I consider myself a top battler so no not all of the top battlers will hate on Ambipom (hey i am on top of the ladder under loldusclops and i know i beat plenty of those council people on the ladder and more than one of those "peaked number one teams" authors have said i am very good and i have a few of those teams myself).

If you want to say something is terrible and bash it when people have been already bashing it about half a dozen times in the same thread and probably half a hundred times in irc and other parts of this forum, why don't you give something additive too instead of constantly reiterating what people have already said? You say Ambipom is outclassed by Mienshao, I say how so? At least tell me what it outclasses it as, a sweeper, scouter, revenge killer, pseudo lead?

As a sweeper Mienshao is much more powerful at the cost of two things - less reliable while much slower. It also has different coverage, not worse but different so it cannot effectively hit things like Nidoking Ambipom struggles with things like Zapdos. The base speed is fairly significant for a sweeper. Mienshao cannot have a chance against Cobalion, Raikou, Azelf and Ambipom for the most part. Froslass also troubles it. Ambipom on the other hand can deal very significant damage to all of those Pokemon and at worse speed tie all of them. The power difference means Ambipom cannot beat some bulkier threats that Mienshao can such as securing a KO on Kingdra and Flygon while Ambipom can only do ~70% to them with Return. Reliabiliy is an issue for a sweeper because Mienshao has to rely on imperfect accuracy moves like HJK and SE while Ambipom has only perfect accuracy Seed Bomb, Fake Out, Low Kick, and Return to fall on. If say Mienshao needs to sweep through a Zapdos and a Kingdra it has a 72% chance of landing both SE and HJK. Or you could use Ambipom to sweep through which has no chance to sweep through until they are weakened (say by two sr switch ins each) where you then have a 100% chance to sweep. Ambipom has coverage that allows it to hit all of UU for neutral STAB or SE coverage moves while Mienshao can only hit everything for neutral STAB or neutral coverage, things like Mismagius hurt it badly. Other things to remember is that Ambipom has extremely powerful priority while Mienshao has an ability that allows it to function at high health the entire game usually. Both has crappy defenses but Mienshao's defenses which are statistically worse are somewhat mitigated by Regenerator. It will not help take powerful attacks but ease residual damage and random resisted attacks. Mienshao also can use other effective sets like Choice Scarf and Baton Pass but Ambipom is a predictable Fake Out attacker. As a sweeper this evidence makes me think Mienshao is better and more versatile but certainly not outclassing it.

As a scouter Regenerator is extremely powerful on Mienshao especially because Mienshao's 125 base attack and base 130 power move forces many switches which helps Mienshao as a scout. Ambipom has none of this, just a great speed which again lets it outrun more stuff and U-turn out more. It does however have a huge reputation of a powerful fake Out user which it can abuse. Lets say your opponents raikou is out and you have an Ambipom out. The game has just begun. You know your opponent is relying on a Raikou sweep because you have no Swampert or Snorlax or Umbreon so they want to keep their Raikou healthy. Team Preview also says they have a Cofagrigus. SHould you use Fake Out or U-turn? I say use U-turn and forgot the "free damage" because Cofagrigus is clearly switching in. Ambipom has likely just gathered you momentum and you can now put huge pressure on the opponent. Mienshao could not do this since you have a higher getting straight up KO'd by a LO Thunderbolt or Extrasensory since Raikou can easily absorb Mienshao's Fake Out. Mienshao is usually better but there are more than just random isolated instances where Ambipom is better.

As a revenge killer Ambipom is usually better by virtue of its speed and priority nless Mienshao has a Choice Scarf. Ambipom can revenge kill most anything but it requires them to be weakened for the most part by at least a couple entry hazard switch ins. Mienshao does not really need this because it is so powerful but it cannot revenge kill some faster threats like Cobalion without a scarf that Ambipom could. Genreally locking yourself in a move just to revenge kill is not favorable especially because Mienshao cannot use its good coverage. Also when you revenge kill you really want to be reliable because if you miss its usually gg, Ambipom is very reliable accuracy wise while Mienshao is not so much. In this case its really arguable who is better but nobody certainly outclasses each other.

As a pseudo lead Ambipom's speed helps it out again while Mienshao's power helps it. For the most part all they are going to do is U-turn out as their counter comes in while both can surprise their usual counters, Mienshao can HP Ice a Gligar while Ambipom can Seed Bomb/Low Kick a Rhyperior. As leads they are quite similar.

All of this makes me think Ambipom should be around ~40-45 in usage as opposed to being banned for sucking so much which apparently some of you would approve. Just get off the bandwagon people and don't blindly agree with people who offer no proof or evidence apart from a fancy title or a high post count. Yes they almost always know best but thats because they usually offer good solid proof to back up claims, which the "LOL AMBIPOM SUKS" group has certainly not.

The only two of those roles Ambipom manages to accomplish are the absolute least relevant ones in BW UU. Scouting doesn't accomplish much when you know all of your opponent's Pokemon and the Pokemon that Ambipom attracts are usually running one set to do one thing: wall him. Pseudo-leads...come on, this is BW. Bulky Stealth Rock user will start off and beat him every time.

Ambipom has speed, but the power to really use it just isn't there. It's next to impossible for him to get past anything defensive because of his 4mss and poor STAB options. When you say Fake Out, I say, "Free turn." Even if he U-turns all match away from things like Gligar and Cofagrigus that he'll never be able to get past, he's doing more damage to himself than to his opponent due to hazards and most likely Life Orb. There's just no point to putting Ambipom on your team if he won't get anything done in the face of so many Pokemon.

I'm aware that you're playing devil's advocate, but I'm having a tough time believing you've ever been threatened enough by Ambipom or achieved results with it to seriously vouch for it. At the end of the day, Electivire overstayed its welcome in DPP OU just as Ambipom has done in BW UU. It hasn't performed well at all thusfar and it probably never will.

I know i am biased, but i really feel Durant deserves more usage.

It`s power is just amazing and is prety fast, also being able to take some physical hits despite his terrible HP.

Is there something seriously wrong with Durant that i am missing? I am not saying it is perfect or something (Stupidly low Sp.Def is a huge problem),but 56 just feels too low.....i am not quite as familiar with the metagame in general as everyone else on this thread is though.

He's unreliable before his boost and doesn't hit the hardest even after. His horrid lack of special bulk makes it harder for him to switch in on or survive the same things, say, Cobalion would. I thought he'd be pretty good in UU too after the BW2 changes, but as big as Heracross is right now, there's simply no demand for other STAB Bug users.
