Nominating Grumpig as Hard Check/Counter

Grumpig @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Psychic
- Heal Bell
- Taunt

Calcs are Below
Infernape vs Grumpig:
252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Grumpig: 74-87 (20.3 - 23.9%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Hidden Power Dark vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Grumpig: 101-120 (27.7 - 32.9%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Thick Fat Grumpig: 68-82 (18.6 - 22.5%) -- possible 5HKO
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Grumpig: 147-173 (40.3 - 47.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Hidden Power Dark vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Grumpig: 198-234 (54.3 - 64.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Thick Fat Grumpig: 136-161 (37.3 - 44.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Grumpig vs Infernape:
0 SpA Grumpig Psychic vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Infernape: 236-278 (80.5 - 94.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Thats one lo hit and psyshic to kill

Fast enough to taunt UU walls and T wave sucks! Heal Bell is always good for a team. None the less its a great switch in to any special attacker with fire stab. I know its different but I hop you enjoyed the calcs. Covers everything that special infernape can run barring hp dark on the predict after a Nasty Plot.

Nominating Mega Aero as Check

Mega Aerodactyl
Jolly Nature
40 HP/ 252 Attack/ 216 Speed
-Roost
-Aerial Ace
-Stone Edge
-Aqua Tail

Mega Aero is able to reliably check NP ape. It cannot switch in on a boosted FB or GK since it has a significant chance of being OHKO with rocks on the field. But, at base 150 speed it can easily outspeed (even before mega evolve) and doesn't have to worry about taking a boosted FB, GK and it can survive the +2 VW and easily ohko with AA.

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Vacuum Wave vs. 40 HP / 0 SpD Mega Aerodactyl: 153-181 (49.1 - 58.1%) -- 95.3% chance to 2HKO

252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Aerodactyl Aerial Ace vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Infernape: 356-422 (121.5 - 144%) -- guaranteed OHKO

It can easily KO unboosted Ape, but has to come in after a KOor predicted NP.

Nominating Meloetta as a Check

Meloetta @ Assault Vest
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Psyshock
- Hyper Voice
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball/Thunderbolt

Meloetta is an interesting Pokemon that can serve as a decent check to Nasty Plot Infernape. It possesses a stellar Special Defense stat of 128, while its high Special Attack can threaten Infernape right back. Unfortunately, Infernape has a good chance to score a 2hko from a straight switch, but it must rely on its 2 inaccurate STAB moves, Fire Blast or Focus Blast, to do so (Hidden Power Dark requires Stealth Rock or some other form of prior damage, like burn). Meloetta is not entirely deadweight outside of checking Infernape, as its bulk and power can serve as an answer to other special attackers such as Mega Ampharos or even some variants of Hydreigon.

252+ SpA Meloetta Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Infernape: 378-446 (129 - 152.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO ("the buck stops here"--Harry Truman)
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Assault Vest Meloetta: 214-253 (53.1 - 62.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (main reason it's a check, fuck off nape)
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Hidden Power Dark vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Assault Vest Meloetta: 159-187 (39.4 - 46.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO (requires rocks for a 2hko)
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Vacuum Wave vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Assault Vest Meloetta: 78-94 (19.3 - 23.3%) -- possible 5HKO
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Focus Blast vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Assault Vest Meloetta: 234-277 (58 - 68.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (again, fuck off nape)
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Hidden Power Ice vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Assault Vest Meloetta: 79-94 (19.6 - 23.3%) -- possible 5HKO
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Grass Knot (20 BP) vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Assault Vest Meloetta: 27-32 (6.6 - 7.9%) -- possibly the worst move ever

Nominating Dragalge as a Counter / Hard Check

Dragalge @ Choice Specs
Ability: Adaptability
Modest Nature
EVs: 188 HP / 252 SpA / 68 Spe
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Bomb
- Focus Blast
- Dragon Pulse

Dragalge is a pokemon that's always looking for an opportunity to come in and fire off one of its wicked adaptability STAB move. Dragalge cleanly OHKO's Infernape with any of its STAB moves, and without the boost from Blaze Infernape just can't deal enough damage back. Even if Infernape gets a special defense drop on the switch with Focus Blast, it still falls just short of killing Dragalge after rocks with maximum damage rolls. Even a critical hit on a +2 Focus Blast doesn't ensure a OHKO after rocks. Infernape's only reasonable chance of winning is with Blaze-boosted Fire Blasts, even then only giving it a 26.6% chance to 2HKO after rocks. If Infernape is above the 33% Blaze threshold then Dragalge is a counter; if Infernape has activated his blaze boost, then Dragalge is a check.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Adaptability Dragalge Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Infernape: 502-592 (171.3 - 202%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Adaptability Dragalge Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Infernape: 348-410 (118.7 - 139.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Adaptability Dragalge Dragon Pulse vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Infernape: 328-388 (111.9 - 132.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Dragalge Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Infernape: 232-273 (79.1 - 93.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Focus Blast vs. 188 HP / 0 SpD Dragalge: 91-108 (28.6 - 33.9%) -- 98.9% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Fire Blast vs. 188 HP / 0 SpD Dragalge: 83-99 (26.1 - 31.1%) -- 23% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Life Orb Blaze Infernape Fire Blast vs. 188 HP / 0 SpD Dragalge: 125-148 (39.3 - 46.5%) -- 26.6% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Focus Blast vs. 188 HP / 0 SpD Dragalge: 182-214 (57.2 - 67.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Focus Blast vs. 188 HP / 0 SpD Dragalge on a critical hit: 273-322 (85.8 - 101.2%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Nominating acrobat as a check.

Crobat
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 248 HP / 48 Atk / 212 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Acrobatics
- Roost
- Defog
- U-turn

Crobat is one of those mons that can be added to a lot of cores on teams and is one of the most common mons in the metagame. Main reason I listed it as a check is that while it doesnt enjoy taking a fire blast after rocks it can switch into 3/4 of napes moves while taking stealth rocks and it can easily 1v1 nape if you can get it in safely. running acro instead of brave bird is actually really important so you can switch into fire blasts and either roost on a switch out or stay in and kill it without taking the recoil so you do not kill yourself. And even with the low attack evs and only running acro it is still enough to take out nape.

48 Atk Crobat Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Infernape: 306-360 (104.4 - 122.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Crobat: 242-285 (64.8 - 76.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Hidden Power Dark vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Crobat: 88-104 (23.5 - 27.8%) -- 84.7% chance to 4HKO

* This move can deal a great amount of damage

Vaporeon can get switches at Grass Knot (If isn't +2) Vaccum Wave, Fire blast / Flamethrower and Focus Blast (If isn't +2), And have a Chance to 1HKO with scald (If is full health, *If is Stealth Rock damageded, it can kill it with Scald) But you need to watch out about Grass Knot(+2), Focus blast(+2) and Close combat, Witch can 2HKO vaporeon
( That's why he isn't a counter )

Hmm, is it too late to nominate something? Damn shame if it is.
#Noivern
Ah well, I'll post it anyways, sorry if this is too late :I

NOMINATING NOIVERN FOR Hard Check

Noivern @ Choice Specs
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 SpA/ 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Air Slash
- Flamethrower
- Switcheroo

Noivern is a very good check, due to the fact it takes less than 50% of its health on Infernape's strongest move at +0, so even with Rocks, it would take two hits. Assuming if I switch Noivern in as soon as I see Infernape come out, either it boosts to +2 with Nasty Plot and gets outsped and OHKO'd by Noivern or it hits with a Focus Blast and does at maximum 49% to my Noivern's health and gets OHKO'd in return. Even if you are scared for some ungodly reason, either Draco Meteor or Air Slash will miss, Switcheroo is there to trap Infernape into Nasty Plot, although I do not recommend this as you can just kill it or you can do it, if you predict a switch into something else. However, since Noivern cannot switch in on Infernape on +2 with Rocks, I believe it should be a Hard Check.

Also, hax on if Draco Meteor/Air Slash miss or if Fire Blast at +2 burns(so even without rocks = dead). The hax are real :P

252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Noivern: 131-155 (42.1 - 49.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Nominating Alakazam as a soft check

Alakazam @ Life Orb/Focus Sash
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Shadow Ball
- Dazzling Gleam
- Calm Mind/Focus Blast

Despite its sub-par Special Defense, Alakazam is still a solid check to NP Ape. With Magic Guard, Zam takes no recoil damage from life orb, yet it still retains the power boost from it. It can take Vacuum Waves/Focus Blasts really nicely, and HP Dark won't do enough to zam to KO it unless it is backed up by a NP boost, and Zam can easily OHKO Ape with Psyshock. Although Zam cannot switch in to Ape's FB or HP Dark if it has NP boosts, it can easily kill or force ape out if it gets in safely.

Calcs:

252 SpA Life Orb Alakazam Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 4 SDef Infernape: 463-549 (158 - 187.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Alakazam Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Infernape: 356-422 (121.5 - 144%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Alakazam: 208-246 (82.8 - 98%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Alakazam: 415-489 (165.3 - 194.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Hidden Power Dark vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Alakazam: 304-359 (121.1 - 143%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Alakazam @ Life Orb/Focus Sash/Assault Vest

EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd

It can take Vacuum Waves/Focus Blasts really nicely, and HP Dark won't do enough to zam to KO it unless it is backed up by a NP boost, and Zam can easily OHKO Ape with Psyshock. Whilst LO and Sash are the normal items on Zam, an Assault Vest can be used to a surprisingly great effect, as it makes switching into Ape a lot easier, especially if it has no SAtk boosts. Although Zam cannot switch in to Ape's FB or HP Dark if it has NP boosts, it can easily kill or force ape out if it gets in safely.

I'm not entirely sure I agree with the use of Assault Vest on Alakazam. While it does enable it to survive a Fire Blast on the switchin, Zam is still taking well over half its health from an unboosted attack, so if the Infernape user switches out, he loses no boosts and basically ensures that without Wish support, you're not coming back in safely. Sash, as you already said, is the best option, because it guarantees that Infernape will be at least forced out and will have to waste more time setting up. Furthermore, if the Infernape user predicts properly, he can kill you anyways from the switch with HP Dark+Vacuum Wave at +2 or weaken you to the point where Alakazam becomes basically priority fodder. I do agree with the rest of your nomination; I just have a problem with the Assault Vest.

http://www.smogon.com/smog/issue35/assault-vest this article details what can work as a proper assault vest user and what can't. :) good nomination otherwise

Minor nitpick: "SpD" is the abbreviation for special defense, and "Spe" is the abbreviation for speed.

Edited, and yeah after reading that guide I can see that Assault Vest is probably best saved for bulkier pokemon, thanks for giving me the heads up ;p

I am too - I want to see who wins this one.

Speaking of which, I actually tried putting this week's victim on a team, and it's a beast.

Nominating Cresselia as a Hard Check:

Cresselia @ Leftovers

- Psychic
- Moonblast
- Thunder Wave
- Moonlight

Ability: Levitate
252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature

Even with a physically defensive spread, Cresselia is a pretty hard check to this thing. Psychic hits for 70% minimum, which ensures that Infernape will die after SR + two rounds of Life Orb Recoil. Meanwhile Cresselia avoids the OHKO from +2 Fire Blast.

Dad's Dad

Banned deucer.
Nominating Fletchinder as a Soft Check/Check:

Linda (Fletchinder) (F)
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 104 HP / 252 Atk / 152 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Acrobatics
- Roost
- Will-O-Wisp
- Swords Dance

Fletchinder isn't bulky at all and just dies to any +2 Infernape hit (Except Grass Knot), but this thing with Gale Wings forces Infernape to Vacuum Wave you which even at +2 and with Rocks up can't kill you.

+2 252 SpA Life Orb Infernape Vacuum Wave vs. 104 HP / 0 SpD Fletchinder: 122-144 (41.9 - 49.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252+ Atk Fletchinder Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Infernape: 356-422 (121.5 - 144%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Granted, you need to be at full HP, but you really shouldn't be using this thing early game anyway. Fletchinder shines late game when it's checks and/or counters are burned/weakened/fainted. It's not the best 'mon but it is viable and it can check Infernape and the plethora of other Fighting-Types in UU.
