Victim Of The Week [VoTW #27 - Zygarde / Zygarde-Complete]

3heartschall's T H I C C A S S Gyarados gets my vote for the week.

If you wanna speak as a true counter, this baby is probably the most versatile thing as it can not only threaten Lucario, but it also can help dunk on the renowned Hippowdon and Dragonite core that is usually found along with it.

RNGIsFatal

Banned deucer.
Voting for Vif-Argent's Zapdos... due to its resistance of both of Lucario's STAB, and an ability to threaten it with Heat Wave or gain momentum using Volt Switch while (possibly) forcing it out.

Kanon90's Jellicent
Fat water types are so good and Mr. Jelly laughs at lucario especially because many lucarios don't even carry coverage because stabs+prio+setup is too good to pass up usually.

Congratulations to cant say for winning VoTW 25 (Mega-Lucario) with your submissions of Mega-Charizard-Y! Your post will be logged into the archive.
Victim of the week #26 - Tyranitar / Mega-Tyranitar

VoTW 26 greets us with Tyranitar. Tyranitar is a fantastic mon and likely always will be, being able to supply a plethora of both support and offensive options for your team. Sand Stream works amazing in tandem with Excadrill granting it sand rush as well as mega-Charizard-Y for a weather core. I would list all the viable support and offensive options, but I'd be here all day so you can all find them here. Mega-Tyranitar is just as threatening as regular, able to break some really bulky walls with the assistance from Dragon Dance as well as perform great with a standard four attacks moveset under trick room. So, how do you deal with Tyranitar?

Submissions are open and will be closed in four days from now. Best of luck everyone!

Tyranitar-Mega @ Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
Level: 50
EVs: 76 HP / 252 Atk / 180 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Superpower
- Ice Punch

Ok, so inb4 Lando, Celesteela and the fighting types, how about a mon that defeats itself? Chople Berry isn't even in the top 10 items that this beast usually runs, allowing BIG LIZARD PWNS to defeat itself easily with Superpower.

Tapu Bulu @ Choice Band
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Wood Hammer
- Horn Leech
- Superpower
- Stone Edge

Bulu easily beats Tyranitar thanks to the power of Grass STAB + Choice Band + Grassy Terrain. You can click any of the first 3 moves, as they all OHKO even the bulkiest of Tyranitars.

Offensive Calcs:
252+ Atk Choice Band Tapu Bulu Wood Hammer vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tyranitar in Grassy Terrain: 342-404 (165.2 - 195.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Tapu Bulu Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tyranitar: 304-360 (146.8 - 173.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Tapu Bulu Horn Leech vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tyranitar in Grassy Terrain: 216-254 (104.3 - 122.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Defensive Calcs:
(vs Defensive T-tar) 0 SpA Tyranitar Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Tapu Bulu: 68-82 (38.4 - 46.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after sandstorm damage and Grassy Terrain recovery
0 SpA Tyranitar Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Tapu Bulu: 84-100 (47.4 - 56.4%) -- 84% chance to 2HKO after sandstorm damage and Grassy Terrain recovery
(vs D-dance Mega) +1 252 Atk Mega Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tapu Bulu: 135-160 (76.2 - 90.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after sandstorm damage and Grassy Terrain recovery
+1 252 Atk Mega Tyranitar Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tapu Bulu: 136-162 (76.8 - 91.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after sandstorm damage and Grassy Terrain recovery

So basically, Bulu dunks on T-tar. It also does well against other mons such as Lando and Fini. It's a shame Bulu doesn't get enough love.

Clefable @ Kee Berry
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Moonblast
- Calm Mind
- Moonlight
- Fire Blast / Stealth Rock / Thunder Wave

As per usual, Clefable loves to give zero fucks about boosting sets. The premise of this set is to take a hit to activate the Kee Berry, either healing or setting up, and then proceeding to steamroll the opponent with boosted Moonblasts.

The only real set Clefable needs to worry about is a Choice Band set, which sits at an astonishing 2% usage in Singles.

252 Atk Tyranitar-Mega Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Unaware Clefable: 90-106 (44.5 - 52.4%) -- 20.7% chance to 2HKO after sandstorm damage

252+ Atk Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 84-100 (41.5 - 49.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after sandstorm damage

252 Atk Tyranitar-Mega Stone Edge vs. +1 252 HP / 252+ Def Unaware Clefable: 60-72 (29.7 - 35.6%) -- 25.8% chance to 3HKO after sandstorm damage

252+ Atk Choice Band Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 127-150 (62.8 - 74.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after sandstorm damage

"Stand" God Buzzwole(Choice Scarf)
Ability : Beast Boost
EV : 252 Atk/ 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature

Superpower
Ice Punch
Leech Life
Earthquake

The mighty Buzzwole can switch-in to anything Tyranitar has including the rare Fire Blast. From his side it always OHKOs no matter how high the investment of Ttar is in defense with Superpower.
Could have opted for a more defensive spread but with scarf Buzzwole can catch off guard Mega-Mence with ice punch whom is a common partner of Ttar. Jolly is the preferred nature so Buzzwole can still outspeed Jolly Mega Tyranitar after Dragon Dance. It also does well against Excadrill another common partner of Ttar.
Some calcs below :
+1 252+ Atk Tyranitar-Mega Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Buzzwole: 126-148 (69.2 - 81.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after sandstorm damage
252+ Atk Tyranitar Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Buzzwole: 129-153 (70.8 - 84%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Buzzwole Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tyranitar: 292-348 (141 - 168.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Buzzwole Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Tyranitar-Mega: 232-280 (112 - 135.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

I just got frekin ninja'd but I would at least like to support his arguments.

Buzzwole is one of the best physical behemoth which has a unique typing that allows it to check dangerous physical attackers such as Mega Gyarados and Mega Tyranitar, while disgustingly bulky investments survive Mega Charizard X's Flare Blitz and retaliates with stuff like Hammer Arm.

Assuming Mega Tyranitar is a standard physical set, as long as you don't let it go to like +4, Buzzwole gives 0 fucks about whatever it does with Crunch and Tyranitar has to risk hitting Stone Edge even if its boosts are in a range of OHKOing Buzzwole. Obviously, missing Stone Edge results in death.

Fire Blast won't do a jackcrap to AV variants of Buzzwole, and 0 SpAtk Mega Tyranitar won't even OHKO 0 HP Buzzwole with Fire Blast after Stealth Rock if it has recovery. Obviously Buzzwole is a tank outsides Scarf sets, and will have to HP investments to live Fire Blast and retaliate using Superpower, Hammer Arm, Low Sweep, or whatever it has.

I should post earlier next time so I won't miss chances like this smh

  • Voting will close on the 6/8 at 12:30pm GMT+11 (8:30pm EST 5/8), where the next Vitim Of The Week will also be announced
  • You can't vote for your own submission
  • You can only change your vote once, so think carefully before doing so
  • You can vote even if you haven't made a submission. It is expected that you vote if you did submit yourself, but not compulsory
Unfortunately I'm at uni so I can't do the hides and all that jazz, so I've had to settle for the next best thing

The Squash's Tapu Bulu. I would have picked blaziken, but Hjk missing really sucks. Also, Bulu can slam almost any switchin to it hard with a terrain boosted wood hammer, or even superpower.

Le Tapu Bulu

As much as I chuckled from Golisopod, Tapu Bulu deserves it more. The only real problem I have with Golisopod is Tapu Lele's omnipresence in the format. Granted T-tar is not usually paired with Lele, however Bulu is more versatile imo

Congratulations to The Squash for winning VoTW 26 (Tyranitar / Mega-Tyranitar) with your submissions of Tapu Bulu! Your post will be logged into the archive.
Victim of the week #27 - Zygarde

Taking a break from the regular BSS metagame to look at No Holds Barred. Credits to NOVED for suggesting Zygarde! This mon kind of just eats pretty much any hit. Its bulk is simply insane, making it extremely difficult to break without super effective moves or toxic. Seriously, this mon just eats everything. The combo of thousand arrows + boosting move (dragon dance / coil) in conjunction with its complete form is absolutely menacing. More often than not, I find myself having to strategically 2hko this without activating complete form because if i don't, this mon becomes a whole lot more threatening. Even with other legendary threats around such as Magearna and Marshadow, Zygarde simply dominates.

So, how do you deal with Zygarde?

Submissions are open and will be closed in four days from now. Best of luck everyone!

I'm not going to post an especially specialized Pokemon, but I'll post what's been doing work for me so far!

Mamoswine @ Focus Sash
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Icicle Spear
- Ice Shard

Pretty simple stuff. Icicle Spear is a nightmare for Zygarde. 3 hits will OHKO offensive ones before it goes into its complete forme, and even complete forme takes serious damage. Not even Yache is a surefire stop thanks to multihitting! Helps that Zygarde needs a boost to even 2HKO Mamoswine with Thousand Arrows. There could be better specalized checks out there, but Mamoswine is pretty hard to beat for a check that's really good in this metagame!

Tapu Fini @ Aguav Berry
Ability: Misty Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 248 Def / 12 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Surf
- Nature's Madness
- Taunt

Fini can come in on any Zygarde and scare it away or prevent a bold snake from setting up with Taunt (Actually, the Bold one here is Fini, but enough bad jokes). Moonblast always breaks 100% form subs (unless it's max HP/SpD, but who's mad enough to run that?), and Misty Terrain prevents both Glare, Toxic and Rest from our favourite environment protector.
