Garchomp @ Salac Berry
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Endure
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw

Endure SD Salac Chomp is better designed to take on faster builds, and can easily take on a Zard-X which hasn't set up as well as revenge +1 Zard-X. This specific set allows you to take a Dragon Claw by using Endure, get the Salac boost, and then take out Zard with Earthquake. This is nice because it gives you a chance to stop a Zard sweep and if you play correctly, then you have a +1 Speed Garchomp ready to clean the opposing team or dent it even further endgame.

Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Scald
- Recover
- Earthquake
- Curse/Toxic

Quagsire is arguably the most consistent answer to Mega Charizard X by virtue of its resistance to Flare Blitz coupled with its fantastic ability in unaware, which allows it to ignore any and all boosts that Zard X accrues. With a fully physically defensive set, Quagsire takes palty damage from all of Zardx's moves, Dragon Claw doing only 41% on a max roll. Additionally, Quagsire has the ability to curse up so that it takes even less damage from Zardx, and Earthquake is a clean 2HKO vs Zard at +0, so you don't get outhealed by roost, which is very important when attempting to check Zardx. Toxic is also an option for wearing down Zardx ass you're recover spamming, but curse's ability to boost up so that moves like Dragon Claw don't pressure you as hard, is really nice vs Zard X,

Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Knock Off / Superpower

With its unique Water/Fairy typing, Azumarill can take on M-ZardX without much trouble (even after it has set up one DD!) since it resists Flare Blitz and is immune to Dragon Claw. After one (unboosted) FB recoil from M-ZardX against Azumarill, the latter can KO the former with a powerful Play Rough, even if both moves are minimum rolls! If both M-ZardX and Azumarill are, somehow, low on health, Azumarill can finish it with Aqua Jet before it gets KOed first. If you hard-switch Azumarill into M-ZardX, look out for Flare Blitz, as this move can 2HKO after SR.
252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Flare Blitz vs. 172 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 153-181 (39.8 - 47.1%) -- 46.9% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock (153*, 156, 157, 159, 161, 162, 165, 166, 168, 170, 171, 174, 175, 177, 179, 181)

* On minimum rolls, M-ZardX loses 51HP due to FB recoil and Azumarill attacks it for 246HP more:

246 + 51 = 297, which is exactly the same amount of HP M-ZardX has without any HP or Def investment (if the 4 remaining EVs were placed into Def instead of SpD, then the KO wouldn't be guaranteed, but Azumarill would still have a great chance to KO it anyway).

Mega Charizard X is grounded, so it can be trapped if Dugtrio's sash is in tact or if it is carrying that weird Custap set. Salac also does the job here if you want to beat scarfers on the following turn but Custap also beats jolly SandDrill so it's better. Dugtrio lives the hit with either Sash or Endure and deals heavy damage back with EQ. It doesn't OHKO though so you can't trap it without around 25% chip beforehand (SR should do the trick, although using that as the only means of chipping it is risky 'cause people usually sac off Starmie with a spin to get rocks off the field on the turn it comes in).

Slowbro is one of the best defensive answers to Mega Charizard X, thanks to its high defensive stats and resistance to Flare Blitz. However, it has access to a very bulky Mega Evolution, able to stomach two +2 Dragon Claws with this EV investment (in case Zard boosts again while Slowbro uses CM) and retaliate with a powerful Scald, which 2HKOes Charizard X after a CM boost.

Thick Fat Azumarill is a Pokémon I have been playing around with lately and it's very cool.

I believe it can be defined as a counter to Mega Charizard X.

+1 252 Atk Tough Claws Mega Charizard X Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Thick Fat Azumarill: 80-94 (19.8 - 23.2%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery

As you can see, Flare Blitz is a possible 6HKO at +1 and Earthquake 4HKOs most of the time (nobody carries EQ nowadays anyways) so you can either Toxic stall it or Perish trap it.

Role: IT'S SO FLUFFY I'M GONNA DIE Counter

DDD Mega Altaria may have fallen a bit out of favor, but it still serves as a solid counter to Charizard-X due to its typing. Being immune to Dragon Claw is nice, and Flare Blitz, the most damaging move Charizard-X carries, does not 3HKO a full HP Mega Altaria unboosted and does not 2HKO at +1. In return, Altaria's Return usually 2HKOes a full HP Charizard-X even without a boost and has a chance to OHKO at +2. Earthquake, if you choose to run it, does very slightly more damage, although the difference becomes mostly moot after a boost. This assumes that both mons are mega evolved, however, and Altaria certainly does not want to switch in on Dragon Claw if it has not. It's also worth noting that Altaria is slower than Charizard unless it has more boosts.

+1 Dragon Claw vs. Rhyperior: 39.6 - 46.6%
+1 Earthquake vs. Rhyperior: 37.7 - 44.8%

Rhyperior is a fun counter to DD variants of Charizard-X between its natural physical bulk, resistance to fire, and Solid Rock ability. Like the calcs show, Rhyperior avoids a 2HKO from all of Charizard-X's attacks, even after a DD. This allows you to comfortably switch in and retaliate back with either Earthquake or Stone Edge, which both deal 101 - 119.1% worth of damage for a clean OHKO. While Rhyperior certainly has its problems in OU and faces competition from other Ground-types in the tier, it's still usable given its ability to function as a SR setter and response to notable threats like Talonflame, Mega Pinsir, and Mega Manectric.

Rotom-Wash is one of the best checks to DD Mega Charizard X imo. With fantastic base Defense and resistance to Flare Blitz, Zard-X can have trouble dealing with this little washing machine. With Thunder Wave, Rotom can paralyze it, and has a pretty good chance to 2HKO with Hydro Pump. Rotom can also tank any hit and Pain Split to lower Zard-X's HP by a large amount. Rotom can take a DD boosted hit up until +4, but it only has a slight chance of being 2HKO'd at +3. Check out the calcs below.

Diancie resists both of Charizard's STABs, allowing it to switch in on most of its moves, Mega Evolve, then OHKO with Earth Power after one round of Flare Blitz recoil, Moonblast after hazard damage and one round of Flare Blitz recoil, or Diamond Storm.

However, this becomes much harder to do if Charizard has already set up. At +1, Flare Blitz does massive amounts of damage and Earthquake becomes a guaranteed OHKO.

Choice Scarf Latios is a pretty niche option for a team overall, but it checks Mega Charizard X pretty well all things considering. Latios is able to switch into Flare Blitz (only once though), Dragon Dance, Roost and Earthquake, however Dragon Claw OHKOs even without a Dragon Dance boost, so being reckless when switching it in can come at a hefty cost. However, even if Mega Charizard X is at +1 Speed, thanks to the Choice Scarf, Latios can still outspeed and OHKO with Draco Meteor.
