Potential Sets:

Name: Defensive Vulture
EVs: 196 HP / 76 Def / 236 SpD
Item: Pre-evolution Stone
Ability: Dust-proof
Nature: Careful
-Knock Off
-Brave Bird / Pluck
-Whirlwind
-Roost

With the great item Pre-evolution Stone, Baruchai can reach a defensive spread of 26/23/26, allowing it to take non-boosted hits and Roost off the damage. Knock Off allows you to rid opponents of useful items such as Choice Scarf, Life Orb, or the omnipresent Oran Berry. Brave Bird is preferred over Pluck due to its much higher base power, although the latter can also be used if you wish to steal your opponent’s berries for yourself. Whirlwind allows you to rack up entry hazard damage, which is great for weakening your opponent’s team to set up a sweep later. Dust-proof is the obvious ability choice due to the fact Baruchai will be missing out on Leftovers recovery.

Name: Special Sweeper
EVs: 76 Def / 236 SpA / 196 Spe
Item: Charti Berry / Life Orb
Ability: Breakable Armor
Nature: Timid
-Nasty Plot
-Dark Pulse
-Air Slash
-HP Ground / Roost

This set plays a lot differently than the previous one and also helps set it apart from its evolution, which couldn’t even begin to run this effectively. With the given EV spread, Baruchai starts out with 16 Spe and 14 SpA, which becomes 24 Spe after a Breakable Armor boost and 28 SpA after just one Nasty Plot, so effectively it could get +1 Spe +2 SpA in just one turn. Life Orb would obviously provide more power, but Charti Berry allows you to survive physical Rock-type attacks to gain the speed boost. The strategy would be to come in after something like an opposing Diglett has scored a KO and Nasty Plot as it uses Rock Slide (Jolly LO Diglett does 35-44% damage with Charti Berry), but obviously Stealth Rock will need to be kept off your field in order for this to be successful. HP Ground is listed in order to hit Fire-types and Steel-types not named Bronzor, but Dark Pulse hits it neutrally anyway. Roost is listed for a little survivability, but this set isn’t very bulky especially after the defense drop, so the added coverage Hidden Power provides is probably better.

Other useful moves this dark meat bird has are: Taunt (to stop opponents from setting up), Bark Out (to further your phazing alongside Whirlwind), and U-turn (bc scouting is always fun).

Suggestions? Thoughts?

This could replace Murkrow though it is a little weaker. I'm liking the special sweeper set. It seems interesting and it looks to have the potential to sweep.

I realize this is a huge bump, but.. this is the best set for Baruchai that I've found.

Name: Fake Out Abuse
EVs: 236 Atk / 156 Def / 116 Spe
Item: Choice Band
Ability: Breakable Armor
Nature: Adamant
-Brave Bird
-U-Turn
-Punishment/Knock Off/Rock Tomb/Return/Steel Wing
-Punishment/Knock Off/Rock Tomb/Return/Steel Wing

The last two moves are basically filler. Switch into a Fake Out from something, get your speed up to 21 (zoinks!) and smash foes with your STAB'd Brave Bird coming from a 24 Attack stat with the choice band. Surprisingly powerful.

Choice Band is generally bad in Little Cup. I guess I could see it working on Baruchai though thanks to Breakable Armor and its not-so-impressive attack....

Defensive Baruchai is insane. With Dust-Proof it isn't taking any weather damage (which works very well with Evolution Stone), and it can survive basically everything. I usually run Toxic/Protect/Roost/Whirlwind, although I'm considering throwing in Knock Off or something somewhere. Baruchai can avoid 2HKOes from Murkrow or Houndour with the right spread and just stall them out of HP from Life Orb or SS/Hail damage.
