as I casually turned on NetBattle, I wondered if anyone would be playing GSC today. no one usually does, and the ones that do I've battled a million times. I grew restless as I idled at the Parthenon, gazing at the hemlock that grew outside the now-crumbled columns.
what I wanted was competition. it's something that all things cannot live without, really. the motivation for success, besting others to claim superiority, the adrenaline rush...hey, it's how evolution occurred, correct? survival of the fittest. we didn't make the rules...but they did.
a champion needn't have a big procession nor a glamourous appearance to make known who is supreme. thus, I decided to humbly request a contest:

and without hesitation, a challenger appeared, dressed in a Roman's garb. they may have the strength, but we, the Greeks, have been known to show our resilience. they even made a movie about it. plucking a piece of hemlock from the soil, I clasped my hands and prayed that my fortunes and my idols would not let me down.

wisdom precedes strength, and as such the frail Athena would not risk being hit. deciding to fight water with water, Poseidon was summoned, but only to be met with the Roman's own Muse, a peaceful one noted for her mystical healing powers.
instead of blindlessly charging, however, subtle tactics are more the order of the day when you're outgunned (pardon the expression). Poseidon only pricked the muse with his trident which had been rubbed in snake venom. implosion: that's the plan.
it comes at a cost, though. Poseidon was battered by both of the Roman's key soldiers: a small, but powerful, masked marauder (known as \Oliv®//) and a giant man of Goliath proportions. however, this is god of the seas, and he summons the ocean itself to aid in his struggle:

d'oh! but back to the story. once a beam of light, the hemlock had wilted into a dark green mush. it was still alive, but with any more misfortunes, it could end up poisoning its wearer.
Oceanus itself had a violent nature and was rumored to itself have a shockwave that could be heard from the sun. clinging to the edge of life, the Roman fled to be healed later. as the Roman general celebrated his victory already, I wondered what exactly the feta is for. I mean, over here we only know feta as a cheese, not a lion's mane on a war helmet. but I digress.
enraged at the events so far, the king of the gods himself appeared. maddened further by a blast of ice that froze the clouds from which his thunderbolts came, he tried to destroy everything in sight, but once again, the Muse returned to nullify the damage and restore the soldiers to pristine condition.
but even the novice soldier will get lucky if it stabs enough, and for the gods, fate was on their side, especially when it was met with no counterstrike:

though the score was tied, we were still cast under the gloom. the giant had returned after two days of healing rest, and Hephaistos had since retired to watch the rest of the war from on high. the hemlock in my hands was oozing a black liquid that stained my hands. nevertheless, I clutched it and looked toward the sky.
the Muse's husband then appeared. it was Icarus, the man who had made wings of wax, only to see them fail upon melting in the sun. long since assumed dead, Icarus was saved by the Muse and now sported wings made of impenetrable metal. aided by the wall of blinding light, he was nigh untouchable.
however, like most of the Roman's brigade, Icarus, under the guise of "Niko," was content to stand and take the assaults rather than attack back.
I looked to the sky for patience, for persistence, for the intelligence a true champion has. things looked bleak. the gods lacked the cooperation they began with. luckily, I was answered. both Poseidon and Athena answered with a shower of acid rain, and where the rain came bolts of thunder.
Poseidon could not be contained anymore. after being battered by all the soldiers of the Roman brigade, the seas answered with waves crashing louder than anyone could bear:

though the score was tied, we were still cast under the gloom. the giant had returned after two days of healing rest, and Hephaistos had since retired to watch the rest of the war from on high. the hemlock in my hands was oozing a black liquid that stained my hands. nevertheless, I clutched it and looked toward the sky.
the Muse's husband then appeared. it was Icarus, the man who had made wings of wax, only to see them fail upon melting in the sun. long since assumed dead, Icarus was saved by the Muse and now sported wings made of impenetrable metal. aided by the wall of blinding light, he was nigh untouchable.
however, like most of the Roman's brigade, Icarus, under the guise of "Niko," was content to stand and take the assaults rather than attack back.
I looked to the sky for patience, for persistence, for the intelligence a true champion has. things looked bleak. the gods lacked the cooperation they began with. luckily, I was answered. both Poseidon and Athena answered with a shower of acid rain, and where the rain came bolts of thunder.
Poseidon could not be contained anymore. after being battered by all the soldiers of the Roman brigade, the seas answered with waves crashing louder than anyone could bear:
