huh. I figured I'd be more conservative but i guess I changed!

But yeah a lot of the questions they asked my first thought was "in what way" or "in some ways but not in some ways" or "it depends..." and there isn't an option for neutrality :|

I'm quite conservative, pro-life, against gay marriage, and a christian. Plus, I support looking into using nuclear power for energy. The only reason I'm pro-gun control is that I don't want the government being able to have the power to change the Bill of Rights.

On the left edge of the spectrum. Also I find your use of liberal confusing because in the Netherlands we take that to mean conservative, left-wingers are socialists here.

I'm pretty much social-democratic/green/socialist. Not marxist but I tend to be egalitarian and timid so.

I believe technically I'm unenrolled but thats only because of weird Massachusetts laws and the fact that if you're a registered Republican, you basically only get to pick who wins in November, and are usually promptly reminded your national vote doesn't matter in leftist la-la-land. In other words, if you want to vote for the least insane Democrat in a primary race, stay unenrolled.

    On Akuchi's test:

    Economic Right: OVER 9000!
    Social Right: What! Over 9000?

    I jest.

    Economic Left/Right: 3.00
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 2.31

Apparently I'm somewhere between Angela Merkel, Kevin Rudd, and Stephen Harper.

Another spectrum test is at ontheissues.org.

The amount of Marxism is this thread scares me. Don't you kids know Marx was a stodgy old bearded man who would take your Ipod away from you for the common good(TM)?

If it truly was for the common good - fine by me.
The world would be an awesome place if I ruled it. With DM as my loyal second in command :3

I was -10.00 economically and -8.51 socially [probably owing to some of my more personal views involving crime and punishment]..
and deck knight's quiz I was edging towards the corner of left - I always come up libertarian left despite my adoration for marx, and his stodge, and his beard.

not surprising really on the marxist stuff. i love marx too and all he would talk about is destroying class conflict and the disintegration of the state. pretty liberal stance if you ask me.

marx has a pretty nice beard, but that dictatorship of the proletariat stuff was probably a mistake. 'yeah guys i know your lives still kinda suck pretty bad right now, but dont worry once this dictatorship of the proletariat is over, you're gonna like it for sure!' that being said, living standards in say maoist china were still a deal better than their living standards in their previous, western-capitalist influenced societies.

Political scene in my province is dominated by social liberals (as is the population), there are no real conservative parties. The most conservative party is more to the left than the most liberal party in the US.

Voting is never based on right/left moral issues debates but rather on the status of the province within Canada.

Like the majority around me, I lean heavily towards the social liberal far left.

edit: and after doing the test, which pretty much confirms it:

    Your political compass
    Economic Left/Right: -7.12
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.15

That test puts me pretty much exactly where Nelson Mandella is. Happy birthday dude.

And every day I would serve you breakfast in bed, with a side of cunnilingus.

Don't you see the problem with this? How can you align yourself with a political party if you only share one ideal with it (and an ideal that is only shared by a certain portion of that party's constituents, I might add)?

Gun control is fucking retarded. It was put in our Constitution by our founding fathers because they had to over throw a Government that had them in an economical vice and was passing irrational laws and needed their right to arms in order to regain there freedom. The founding fathers wanted us to have that right for when our Government gets (got) tyrannical.

    Libertarian.

I'm generally pretty moderate. Slightly left at most. Social libertarian on the compass. I'm Christian, pro-gay marriage, and only in favor of abortion if the mother or the child are in some sort of danger, be it in physical or mental health.

    Yes.
Except I don't agree with gay marriage.
Marriage shouldn't even be mentioned in laws in order for this entire "adult unity" concept to be completely fair and equal.
It's one thing to mention God in the Pledge of Allegiance, but it's another to base your laws on religious laws.

As far as I'm concerned if a chick is raped, who deserves to have there brains scrambled and sucked out with a vacuum. The rapist or the baby?

Pro life, but I know abortion should be legal. There are much more important issues to deal with in politics like stopping the NWO and the environment. Abortion is just a distraction to keep you away from the real issues.

Okay, because I really can't resist at this point - 'if a chick is raped', does she really deserve to be forced to continue a pregnancy that reminds her of the worst thing in her life? To risk her life, to suffer inestimable physical and mental pain, because you place the rights of the potential over the rights of the actual? Don't her rights matter? At that point you have effectively turned her [and any other woman you are denying the right to abortion] into an incubator, disregarding her preferences for the possible preferences of something who can't even think and is completely incapable of rational thought.. erm, why?
Because you want to punish women, think they are inferior, think they should be slaves to their reproductive organs. Men can't get pregnant, therefore men can't bitch about pro-life. Thanks.

And, DM, that sounds nothing short of wonderful; but please, when we go to bed at night let me serve you a nightcap of the finest bourbon with a side order of fellatio?

okay, where on earth did you get that? quick to take the feminist track aren't we -.- . ever considered that some people simply believe in the sanctity of life? one can be against abortion much like being against killing a puppy. if you want to talk about human rights (which i really don't want to but i'll play along), where's the child's right to life, freedom and all the rest of it?

of course I'm quick to take the feminist track - being a woman and all.
    not a child, it's a fetus.
anyway, that was all I am going to say on the matter; there is very little point arguing about the relative ethics of abortion.

I'll repeat what I said in the presidential election thread. A fetus is, for all intents and purposes, a parasite. People have the right to get rid of parasites from their bodies. Let's say someone with a ringworm touches you and you get ringworm; who / what deserves to be destroyed, the person or the ringworm?

    fixed :)

Between the Great Leap Forward, (up to 43 million dead from famine), the Cultural Revolution (essentially purging China of intellectual talent and destroying its cultural heritage), widespread cannibalism, widespread political persecution, I'd say that's a big improvement in living standards (especially when you consider that Republican China was fairly awful too, at least until they took over Taiwan.)

I am not going to assume you're a total idiot, so I'm going to assume that you lied because you're fucking obsessed with a failed system that has been a failure everywhere it's been tried, so you gloss over historical facts and blame "capitalists" for everything, while at the same time constantly making excuses for why socialism failed so hard everywhere its been tried, where free-market capitalism (which is not really what we have now, it's more like a cross betweeen free-market capitalism and corporate mercantilism) has been successful almost everywhere. (and if you say "any country in Africa" I will mention that most African countries were more or less socialist for most of their history).

I mean seriously - in big bad USA a family at the poverty line probably has as much buying power as the family making median income in China, and they kick the shit out of a median-income family in Cuba or North Korea. But oh right "capitalist exploitation" - it's like a magic word that explains everything - just say "capitalist exploitation" and it ends the argument for a socialist.

Whatever though, keep on believing that we can steal money from people and violate basic economic principles - when you actually have to make your own money, or at least understand the basic workings of making your own money, you might see things differently.

er, so if i think you're killing babies I can't say something about it because I'm incapable of having babies to kill?
