Welcome to the RMT!
This is a team I made with a friend yeaboy12 right after aegislash was banned and have used to some success on the OU ladder (peaking at 1815, #84 on the ladder) on his alt quad5s.

We wanted to focus it around mega pinsir, since we knew that it, along with some other powerful megas, got a huge boost with the absence of aegisalsh. We focused on making a team that hits hard and controls speed. Without further ado, here’s the team:
At a Glance:
In Depth:
Pinsir @ Pinsirite
nickname: Pinhead
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Quick Attack
- Return
- Close Combat
- Swords Dance
Pinsir was the first pokemon we put on the team. It’s a great wall breaker and late game cleaner because of his ability to scare something out with the threat of a quick attack and set up a swords dance. Now that aegislash is gone, fighting/flying coverage is only resisted by thundurus and zapdos in ou. His surprising physical bulk also allows him to be a (shaky) azumarill check, which as you'll see is something that somewhat bothers our team. There isn't too much of a justification for having pinsir becuase the rest of the team is built around him.
Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Icy Wind
Keldeo was the next pokemon added to the team. Choice Specs keldeo has very few switch ins, and most teams only have one, if any (not including stall, of course). Icy wind is over hidden power flying because pinsir destroys amoongus and mega venusaur. Keldeo is great at coming in multiple times throughout a match (it can come in on a knockoff if nothing else wants to take it), firing off a powerful attack to open up holes, then switching out and doing it again. Sharing an electric weakness with mega pinsir and the fact that both are outsped by thundurus is a big problem, and it’s addressed by later team members.
Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Thundurus is a great pokemon in this meta. Both of our other two pokemon at this point are very vulnerable to talonflame, so our first thought was to use thundurus to ease that. Thundurus acts as a very important panic button, allowing us to stop potential sweeps from set up pokemon such as mega gyarados or mega tyranitar. At first, we ran psychic over focus blast to hit mega venusaur (and because I hate relying on focus blast for anything. Predicting a switch in correctly but missing is a terrible feeling), but as the meta has shifted and mega venu has become less and less common, being walled by heatran was a bigger issue.
Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Draco Meteor
- Defog
- Psyshock
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Since we’re running mega pinsir (and because defog is always nice), we wanted to put an offensive spinner or defogger on the team. Latios also lost a powerful check when aegislash was banished, and can reliably get off a defog every game (if not more). Additionally, nothing we had could do much of anything to rotom wash, and latios has a great match up against it. Finally, hp fire is great for baiting in ferrothorns and scizors and killing them right away. Could earthquake be potentially better, since heatran is another very common switch in?
Diggersby @ Choice Scarf
nickname: Dirty Dan
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Wild Charge
- Return
- Earthquake
- U-turn
Scarfed Diggersby is a great thundurus check. It can switch on a predicted thunderbolt and usually OHKO back with a scarfed return. If they predict the switch in, HP Ice will never kill and most people will stay in and go for the 2HKO, only to die to the return. It’s immune to t-wave and puts in work in almost every battle. Many people predict around it being the sashed varient, which is very beneficial to us because they will often leave a slower mon in expecting to break the sash. If it switches into Stealth Rock, then most people assume that it is essentially without an item. As an interesting note, it hits as hard neutrally with return as specs keldeo’s secret sword. It’s also a great late game sweeper.
Bisharp @ Focus Sash
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Iron Head
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
We decided the last pokemon should be sashed bisharp for a stealth rocking lead. Most people do not expect bisharp to be a lead, or to have stealth rocks, so we often get up rocks for free as the opponent switches into something to take a potential knock off. Because of this, we usually get off SR, a knock off, and a sucker punch before bisharp goes down. Of course, if rocks don’t seem to be too essential, or we need bisharp to take on a specific threat, we won’t lead with him, preserving his sash for when he needs it later in the battle.
Conclusion/Known Issues:
I think this team is really good, but it does have some issues. For one, it struggles a lot against stall. For a while, we tried using gothitelle instead of thundurus, but it was simply too weak to take care of stall by itself and significantly weakened our match up against offense. Against stall, it seems that we have to outplay them to whittle down a few key walls then find an opportunity to get up to plus 2 or 4 with pinsir. This isn't always easy to do.
Rotom wash is a pretty big problem for the team as it does well against most of our attackers (pretty much all of them bar latios). For this reason, a rotom wash/heatran core usually beats our team. Diggersby and Latios, who would put in work against one or the other, usually both lose to the core.
Talonflame can be an issue as well, especially if we don’t have rocks up.
Lastly, clefable can put in work against us depending on the set.
aim if you could please give this a look over I'd be really happy!
