[WIN] Frozen Vault (Normal) – ZhengTann and GemOftheDay

Engineer Pikachu

Good morning, you bastards!
is a Contributor Alumnus
A rather narrow tunnel appears before you, completely covered in ice. As you travel through it, you can't shake the feeling that the tunnel is going up, but the slope must be really slight. The tunnel goes on, with several curves, until you reach the outside. A frigid wind blows throughout the white peaks, carrying thousands of snowflakes along. A thick blanket of snow covers the cliffs and bridges of ice connect the mountains with each other. You make your way across one of these cliffs, though slowed by incessant winds, until you reach an extremely narrow ice bridge. You wonder if it can withstand your weight, but after a careful attempt, it seems so. Luckily for you, an impenetrable mist hides the gulch below, else you might have turned back.

You finally reach another cliff, which after a few meters leads you to a cavern. But instead of the narrow tunnels you've encountered previously, you find yourself under a breathtaking vault, massive in scale and height. As you continue, looking around the mirror-like walls of ice, you suddenly notice a block of ice, which seems more... particular than the others. As you get near it, you realize it represents some kind of mythological creature, probably a deity or something. Below this odd sculpture, some strange writings may be seen, but you're clueless as to their meaning; they don't look like any language you recognize.

You decide it would be better to keep going, but without warning a quake afflicts the vault, sending fissures through the ice. You try to flee, but before you can do anything, the ice shatters beneath your feet, causing a precipitous fall. Fortunately, you land on soft snow. Still chilly and shuddering, you rise to see where you ended up. This place is much darker than the vault you were in before, though it appears the ice all around reflects the light coming from outside, making it somewhat easier for you to see. A closer look, however, seems to suggest that some of the ice crystal are glowing internally. "How is that even possible?", you wonder, but since you're not in the best position to study such a crystal, you start to think about how to get out. After some investigation, you find a wall where you can sense a feeble breeze. You realize it could be shattered to get to the other side, but... it looks like you're not alone!

Lucario(*) Gray (M)

Gray the Riolu first clapped eyes on Zt when he hatched, and has followed him ever since, after bidding goodbye to his birth parents. His desire to be as good as his father (who was a well-known Pokemon in Sinnoh) drives him to perfect his body and trademark Aura Sight in all forms of training. Gray is Natsu’s rival in every way, however it’s not unusual to see them interrupt their fights just to face ‘outsiders’. Like his Ice-Making namesake, Gray is a thinking brawler. His intuition for fights, along with his uncanny ability to read his opponents movements, means he can usually counter the same instant his opponent makes a move. Oddly enough, despite numerous brawls, he sometimes still can’t read Natsu’s moves correctly.

The Hall training was grueling and long, for which Gray took quite some time to getting used to. But it honed his patience, well until the point where there remained very few things that can still bother him - those he held dear to his heart. Using his mind, he started learning how to read and shape energy, to wield his mind as a separate weapon form his body. He plans to put that to great use, still holding a secret ambition to meet and challenge his birth father again, as unlikely as it may be. His aura improved tremendously with the training of his mind and body in the Halls as well as the possession of a Lucarionite - to the point where he can sense danger to a certain extent miles away.

Nature: Mild (+1 SpAtk, -1 Def)

Type:
Fighting type: Fighting STAB; ignore weight restrictions on Circle Throw, Seismic Toss, Sky Drop, Storm Throw, Submission, and Vital Throw.

Steel type: Steel STAB; immune to Sandstorm damage, immune to Poison/Toxic status, but can be corroded specifically by Acid and Acid Spray, making them susceptible thereafter.

Abilities:
Ability 1: Steadfast
Type: Passive
If Gray would be flinched by an attack, it becomes aware of the speed difference and increases Speed by one (1) stage to make up the difference. This Speed boost is maintained at the end of each round.

Ability 2: Inner Focus
Type: Passive
When an opponent attempts to flinch Gray, it stands firm and continues its attack. If it has another ability that would be activated by flinching, that ability activates.

Ability 3: Justified (DW unlocked)
Type: Passive
Gray's body reacts to dark aura, invigorating his passions. When hit by a Dark-type move, Gray's attack will increase by one (1) stage. A boost gained this way by another Pokemon's attack will be maintained at the end of each round. Self-targeted attacks do not maintain boosts.

Ability 4: Adaptability (Mega-Evo only)
Type: Passive
The moves that match Gray's current type would have their Base Attack Power increased by two (2).

Armaldo - Pantherlily (M)

Gajeel was the one who found Pantherlily's Claw Fossil discarded at the entrance of a mine. Seeing the Murkrow's penchant for it, Zheng decided to go to the nearest archaeological lab and revive it. Pantherlily and Gajeel have been quite attached to each other ever since. They share the same camaraderie towards each other as Natsu and Gray, but at least they didn't have the head-splitting rivalry that the other pair always do. Often after a training session, Gajeel would take Pantherlily up for flight trips, while the latter demonstrates the pleasure of submersion in water. The rest of the family often help Pantherlily too, since he's still much less comfortable on terrestrial environment - Wendy loved piggybacking him and Charla together, while the latter doesn't mind that much.

Pantherlily's much larger size now meant that he would no longer be the protected fossiling now, but a respected fighter in his own right. Swinging his claws with the strength of a shield bash, Pantherlily trains everyday by felling trees for firewood and clearing debris around the monastery backyard. Often in the evenings, the only sounds there are the rustling of his claws as no fallen leaf ever touches the ground.

Nature: Adamant (+1 Atk, -1 SpAtk)

Type:
Bug type: Bug STAB; Adds an additional guaranteed attack on all multi-hit moves (does not include two hit moves) with a total hit cap of five (5).

Rock type: Rock STAB; Adds an additional level of Priority (+0 to +1, +3 to +4 etc.) on naturally occurring level-up, egg, tutor, or TM attacks that increase only defense, special defense, or prevent damage (Full list: Acid Armor, Amnesia, Barrier, Defense Curl, Detect, Fast Guard, Harden, Iron Defense, Light Screen, Protect, Reflect, Skull Bash, Stockpile, Wide Guard, Withdraw). Reduced damage from all special attacks by 2 Base Attack Power during Sandstorm, immune to Sandstorm damage. Ignores Arena restrictions on Rock attacks requiring an external rock source.

Abilities:
Ability 1: Battle Armour
Type: Passive
Pantherlily’s thick armor prevents him from taking critical hits.

Ability 2: Swift Swim (DW Unlocked)

Wait, it's up since Saturday?! Sorry for not noticing -.-||| Okay, order of the day - force Weavile into Ambush, then target Froslass. Lucario's taking aggro on Weavile, while Bronzong will take threat on Froslass (simply by setting up Trick Room and Gravity). Gallade can WoW Weavile for a burn before joining in on the Weavile beatdown. If Weavile happens to use Dig on A1, then we'll, uh, still retarget Froslass. Poorly thought out plan I know, so if you have a better idea...
"Well, at least it wasn't the bridge that shattered," said Zheng while he and Anna picked themselves up. "Though I still cannot remember what that ice sculpture represents..."

"Maybe it was Articuno?" asked Anna, staring around at the cavern walls. "No, the shape does not seem to match. Although, that could be due to the wear of the weather-"

"Bhante, you should come look at this!"

Staring at the glowing walls, both of them knew that refraction of light from outside the cave is impossible. That wall leads deeper into the mountains, not out to the side! But there seems to be no end to their mystery and wonder, before a flicker of movement sends chills up both of their spines. Readying their Pokeballs, both of them turned, facing the guardians of the cavern.

Gray (Lucario w/ Lucarionite): [MEGA-EVOLVE] Vacuum Wave > Aura Sphere , both @ Weavile
IF Weavile is untargettable, THEN replace that action with Flash Cannon @ Froslass instead.

Pantherlily (Armaldo w/ Claw Fossil): Smack Down > X-Scissor , both @ Weavile
IF Weavile is untargettable, THEN replace that action with Rock Blast @ Froslass instead.

oh would you look at that.

Gallade @ expert belt: Will o wisp (weavile) -> brick break (weavile)
If weavile is untargettable, replace your actions with stone edge (froslass) followed by night slash (froslass)

Bronzong @ rare candy: trick room -> gravity

hi i'm at an airport right now, busy tomorrow morning, airport again tomorrow afternoon, i'll try and ref when my crazy trip is done

GemOftheDay ZhengTann this is done sorry

Round 1

Gray invokes the power of his evolution stone and attacks the Weavile with a blindingly fast wave of energy, enraging the weasel and causing it to punch hard in return, leaving Gray slightly dazed. The Froslass smirks slightly and fires off a thin beam of ice at Esponce, who burns the Weavile with a ghastly flame. Pantherlily launches a stone at the Weavile, while Coracier stays in the back and suddenly flips the dimensions, making everyone's stomach turn.

Suddenly the fastest of the lot, Coracier continues making strange arena effects, this time pulling on the local gravitational field in order to intensify it and impede evasive attempts. The remaining three Pokemon pile on their attacks onto the Weavile, doing a significant amount of damage. The Froslass, no longer smirking, lets out a shrill cry, and, seconds later, a large thunderbolt crashes down upon Bronzong. Meanwhile, the Weavile seems to have vanished into thin air... will it come back?

Mega-Lucario actually has R6 Sp.Attack, meaning Vacuum Wave would've done 27 damage. Aura Sphere would've done 38.25 damage too, grabbing threat back from Gallade (which might or might not be a good thing). Anyway, if Froslass is going to start disruption tactics, then its best to keep hammering at her. Bronzong could hit Froslass with two 15 BAP Gyro Balls (crazy power) in order to secure threat, while the rest of us can pile on SE attacks without worry. Keep our fingers crossed for Weavile's Ambush - which will only come at the very end of A2 - to hit Lucario (or even Gallade) for the Justified boost.

"Dang, he's gone!"

"Eyes forward, Gray, we still have one in front of us!"

Gray (Lucario w/ Lucarionite): Flash Cannon > Metal Claw , both @ Froslass

Pantherlily (Armaldo w/ Claw Fossil): Stone Edge > Rock Blast , both @ Froslass

According to my analysis, I think we can handle the one in front of us.

<Mais, qu'est-ce qu'on doit faire avec celui-la, qui a dissaparu?>

C'est simple. Nous attendrons, et attaquerons quand il reparaîtra.
Gallade: stone edge (Froslass) -> NIght slash (froslass)

Bronzong: gyro ball (froslass) -> Gyro ball (froslass)

Round 2

With only one enemy in front of the raid team, its members focus all their attacks onto the Froslass, doing a tremendous amount of damage. The Froslass opts for a direct damage form of retaliation, dropping another thunderbolt on Coracier before hurling an orb of shadowy material at it, lowering its defenses temporarily. The Weavile suddenly reappears behind Esponce and slashes it in a weak point with darkness-infused claws, but it also powers Esponce up somehow!

This round is a good chance to test something out :) Everyone but Gray refrains from hitting Weavile in A1, then giving it everything we've got on A2 (Brick Break from Esponce, Gyro Ball from Coracier, another Brick Break from Pantherlily). If we play this right, Weavile will never get the chance to enter a second Ambush. Until then Froslass is still the target. Coracier should probably Flash Cannon Froslass A1 to avoid consecutive EN loss, but that's about it. Thankfully there's no resurrection in Normal Mode, so we should do just fine.

EDIT: Wait I double-checked R1 and Aura Sphere is supposed to have 8 BAP since Gen6 so 2 more HP to Weavile still it won't change the end result here sorry sorry sorry

"Okay, now he's back again."

"Let's just make sure he doesn't have any reinforcements and then take him out for good!"

Gray (Lucario w/ Lucarionite): Aura Sphere > Focus Blast , both @ Weavile

Pantherlily (Armaldo w/ Claw Fossil): Stone Edge (Forslass) > Brick Break (Weavile)

Round 3

The team continues to focus on the Froslass, and the Weavile, quite peeved, smacks Gray hard across the face with brick-shattering force. Unfortunately for the Weavile that gets him an orb of ki energy right in the face. Unperturbed by all the happenings, the Froslass hurls another ball of shadows at Coracier, taking advantage of its temporarily lowered defense.

Then, the raid members suddenly shift focus as all of them hit the Weavile as hard as they can, bringing it down before it can vanish into thin air again. Now alone, the Froslass continues to smash Coracier with orb after orb of shadowy goo, further reducing its defenses.

Finally you manage to clear the way and shatter the wall. A tunnel is revealed, which brings you back to the vault you were in before the floor collapsed. As you procede, you notice more of the ruins you spotted before. Most of them are damaged to the point you can't possibly understand what they were originally, but suddendly some drawings on the wall catch your attention. The first image shows the same mythological creature whose statue you saw before, in front of several humanoid figures which seem to pray towards the creature. The second image feature the deity (or sort of), surrounded by seven circles. Each of the circles is shaped with intricated patterns which probably have some meaning you don't manage to understand. The third image, the last one, shows a great building - a temple, or something like that - upon which the deity floats. Seven rays depart far away from him. You wonder what all this is about.

At the end of the halls, you find a hole, with large stairs made of pure ice going down. You descend through them, and suddendly you find yourselves staring in awe. A giant cavern, probably high over 50 meters and even more in width, extends below the vault. At the center of the cavern, a large spire of ice connects the soil with the ceiling above. You walk down the stairs until reaching the floor, and you get near the spire. More writings show up on it, similar to the ones you saw next to the sculpture of the deity. You try to read through them but, all of a sudden, the stale air of the cavern is disturbed by something. Your senses are keen enough to make you turn in time to see a beam of ice aimed at your position! You manage to dodge it barely, and meanwhile you spot a blue, feathered bird flying around the spire. After some seconds the bird tries to attack again, and you throw your Poké Ball in defense!

This is great - after Mega-Evolution, Gray's slightly faster than Articuno, which means all it needs is to setup to grab threat. Coracier should use the same opening as it did last time, while Esponce and Pantherlily could start hammering right away - just beware of Snow Cloak and maybe sub for Articuno using Fly or Sky Drop.
<"I'm done. Now let's keep moving before they come back to consciousness.">

The trek found soon found them inside a cavern, where the murals and inscriptions grow ever more elaborate. "Surely these carvings link to those found on the rocks of Wildfire Plateau," said Anna, her teeth slightly chattering, "But in what way?"

The answer was not to be found. Instead, an Articuno dived out of the cavern walls to fire an Ice Beam at them, only to be deflected by their Pokemons just in time.

"Zheng, are you alright?"

"Tch, I'm not afraid of this little cold!"

Round 1

While Coracier immediately begins activating strange arena effects all over the place, inverting the dimensions and slowing everything down, the remaining three members immediately begin attacking the Articuno with assorted attacks; Esponce is fooled once by the shroud surrounding Articuno, however, and jabs at thin air. The other attacks, aided by the intensified gravity, all find their target successfully, however.

The Articuno is far from benign, though; it first lets loose a devastating earthquake that strikes several members much harder than anybody would expect, then, as its attention shifts from Gray to Pantherlily, a bone-chilling gust of frosty wind, once again striking multiple teammates. With the hailstones pelting down, it seems as if the team has suffered quite a bit already.

Coracier could set up Light Screen to help mitigate Blizzard attacks. We're 28 damage away from Articuno going shields up, so the rest of us should use this A1 to deal as much damage as possible. That means Esponce can slam a Thunder Punch to let Pantherlily follow up with a Rock Blast, giving Gray (unfortunately) no chance to attack before Cryogonal spawns.

"... Okay, a cave in I'm afraid of."

"Focus, Gray. Please distract him while I try to look at and record the new carvings."

"On it. Dang, another legendary Pokemon..."

Round 2

It does not appear that things went according to plan; indeed, the Articuno encased itself in a block of ice much sooner than you expected!

Also a Cryogonal spawns from nowhere!

Physical attacks should nail it. I think we're comfortable enough on energy to simply take it out A1. Maybe we'll have to conserve a little for the next encounters though.

"Be careful, if this one mural can take the form of a Pokemon, we might be facing Unown next!"

"Got it. Time to take it out real quick!"
