[WIN] Windburn Gulch (Hard) - Dogfish44 and Maxim

After some minutes of walking, you notice the forest getting increasingly more sparse. Then, you arrive near what looks to be a canyon. You are in a high position, so you can see the gulch developing for several miles, almost ending in the ocean. Despite the storms and the rain all around you, surprisingly, this place seems sunny, bathed in a clear, blue sky. Something however is apparently off - the temperature is really hot, probably over thirty degrees (celsius). Sadly, judging from the way your path is looking to be, some more sweating seems to await you.

Soundtrack

The rather narrow path goes down, following the shape of the cliff. Sometimes you put a step in the wrong position, and you shudder as few pebbles fall in the pit below. Suddendly, one of you turns the eyes down and gasps. A river of magma flows slowly within the depths of the canyon, like a red river full of heat and seethe. Nevertheless, you find the courage to keep going and, after a while, you reach what seems to be a platform, suspended above the lava below. It doesn't take the awful drought to remember you about the need to pay care. Still, the exhaustion often causes you to slow down.
Several platforms are connected with the first and with each other with stony bridges. They don't look extremely safe, but at the same time they're your only means to continue your journey. You cross at least four of them before reaching a larger plateau, hovering on the magma below. Suddendly you hear a deep voice laughing.

I didn't expect humans like you to find the guts to venture in these lands. Too bad you don't look worthy of my attention anyway.

"Who's there?!", shouts one of you, in panic. However, the canyon looks as desert as ever.

Don't worry about me. Worry about yourselves.

Few seconds after, you hear a sudden splash coming from below. It takes you only a moment to realize what's happening - the time to avoid a big, four legged creature leaping from the pit over the platform. The ground shakes alarmingly on the impact. Still, the true trouble seems to be ahead of you!

"Funny, this feels oddly familiar. Let's see what we can do then..."

Cherrim: Weather Ball ~ Hidden Power

Ludicolo (Set Own Tempo to the Threat Gaining Mode): Hydro Pump ~ Scald

Exeggutor: Light Screen (Ludicolo, Castform, Roserade) ~ Mimic (Hydro Pump)
IF Exeggutor cannot use Light Screen without using Light Screen on itself as part of the move, THEN A1 use Light Screen (Ludicolo, Castform, Exeggutor)

Sunflora: Mimic (Hydro Pump) ~ Hydro Pump

Chapter 8: Molten Hatred

It was quite the annoying trip. The island seemed to be nothing more than a wide expanse of wild, irritating jungle. I think I had like 3 mosquito bites (and one bite I'm still not sure about) in just the 2 hours it took for us to get there.

I hate jungles.

When those two hours ran their course, I noticed the trees getting a lot more scarce. Apparently we were close to our destination, and I was thrilled that I'd finally get out of that jungle.

The gulch itself was a rather picturesque area, if rather on the hot side; Harold told me that the place was about 30 Degrees Celsius. I don't have a good understanding of that system, but it was definitely hot. Worse, I knew that it was going to get even hotter, since our destination was somewhere within that canyon. Still, I braced myself and my Pokemon for the journey ahead. The rather narrow path went down, following the shape of the cliff. Occasionally, one of us or our Pokemon would misplace their step, and we all make a collective shudder, afraid that the cliff would take all of us. Even so, I was grateful to be out of that blasted jungle, and in a place that was more normal.

At least until I saw the lava.

I gasped when I saw the lava down there. A rather large river of magma flowed slowly within the depths of the canyon, like a red river full of heat and seethe.

"Are you kidding me? Why the blazes is there molten lava here of all places. There isn't even a volcano that I can see!"

"Don't worry about it master, if one of you drop down there I can pick you back up...if you all fall in then well...such is life."

"Thanks..."

After a bit of conversation, we simply decided to forge on ahead, and after a while, we reached what seemed to be a platform, suspended above the lava below. Personally, I was a bit concerned that these platforms would break away and send us tumbling to our deaths. A combination of not wanting to test fate and exhaustion prevented us from making very fast progress.

Several platforms were connected with the first and with each other with stony bridges. They didn't look like the safest option, but none of us really saw another way forward besides having Korangir ferry us across one at a time. I tested it, and they seemed solid enough though. We crossed I'd say about four of these bridges before we finally found ourselves on some solid ground, a plateau above the magma. We decided to take a quick break, but before we could get much rest, a spine chilling voice rang across the area.
I didn't expect humans like you to find the guts to venture in these lands. Too bad you don't look worthy of my attention anyway.

Lovely, more guys trying to kill us all. Hasn't this place had enough yet?

"Who's there?!", I shouted. Unfortunately, no matter where I looked, I couldn't find the source of the voice.

Don't worry about me. Worry about yourselves.

Few seconds after, we heard a sudden splash coming from below. It didn't take me long to realize what was happening. Suddenly, a creature burst from the lava below! Acting in a split second, Korangir flew in front of Harold just in time to absorb a Flash Cannon from the beast that sent him flying! The ground shook alarmingly on the beast's impact. I recognized the creature as being a Heatran, and a nasty looking one at that! I was worried about where Korangir had been blasted off to, but I couldn't look for him, I had to take this thing down!

"Crap, that's not good at all! Guys come on out and get rid of this thing."

"I wonder how long you will last against the Rose Knight!"

"This...confrontation seems unwise...for us or for it I'm not sure yet."

"Hehehehe, another sweetie come to play, don't die too quickly now!"

"Aw nuts, why can't these guys just leave us alone!"

"All right, let's do this! We need to focus on making sure this thing can't do a ton of fire damage to us. Origin, set up a Rain Dance, and then smash the thing with an Earth Power. Alurani, try setting up a Water Sport, it might help at least a little bit. Finally, Pandora, I need you to set up Gravity so it can't leap around all over the place. The rest of you just smash that thing!"

Round 1

Origin immediately summons a rainstorm, while Alurani further weakens the fiery power of the foe with a wide-ranging spray of water. Heatran however isn't phazed significantly and, with a reckless charge, rams into the Stratagem with its metallic head. The rest of the team however doesn't watch passively, and, while Pandora and Coco take care of the support, the other team mates start pummeling the foe with powerful Water-type attacks.

The faster team mates join the onslaught soon after, while Tango draws the opponent's attention. Unlike the team mate Stratagem, though, the Ludicolo endures Heatran's retaliation significantly better, giving the rest of the squad a good opportunity to lay the hurt on the foe unscathed.

(I don't think it's pertinent to last round, but it doesn't seem like you've given Necturna her Rare Candy boost)

By now, I was pretty used to these bosses having a ridiculous amount of hp. Still, I couldn't help but feel like something was going to go wrong...

Cherrim goes to 6 SpA under Rare Candy, since her BRT is 17, which is just low enough to get +2 from it. I'll edit in my actions momentarily, although they'll probably also look like brute force.

Oh, I should also mention that Hydro Pump got nerfed to 11 BAP, which may change some things =(

Round 2

The team keeps up the offense, but Heatran doesn't hold back. With a violent blast of flames, it dazes Pandora and prevents her from acting. Then, it focuses back on Tango, although the Ludicolo isn't really phazed by the ferocious beast.

"OK, this is going well so far, over 25% down at the 25% mark for Enrage, and Necty survived the Conflagrate well, even if it was a little early for my likes - at least Necty's not our main damage dealer for this fight. I'm inclined to say we may want to have Necty shoot a Shadow Mend Ludicolo's way, the Flame Buffets are starting to stack up (I'd imagine that Heatran may start using it's Fire Moves soon...). I'm considering dropping Own Tempo's threat boost at this point as well, so if needed Castform can take some hits later on to get rid of the Buffet on Ludi, who can then go back to tanking with ease. Apart from that, I reckon we should keep going all out this turn, with no Conflag to worry about, thoughts?"

Suddenly, the Heatran blasted my Necturna with a huge stream of fire. For a second I thought I was about to get singed too, but I found myself mostly unscathed. I couldn't say the same for Pandora though.

"Wow, what a kiss darling!" X.X

"Ah nuts, snap out of it Pandora!"

"Who...wha? Oh hello master."

"Well, it's good to see that you're back with us."

As if on cue my Porygon-Z reffing device acted up again.

Conflagrate: 45 BP move that disorients target Pokemon for two actions

"Fourty Five Base Power! Holy cow that's strong."

Luckily our field effects had made sure to keep it from doing too much damage. That stun would probably be our biggest concern. Harold then told me to keep rushing it before it enraged like that Syclant, but to also give a Shadow Mend to Ludicolo and try and get Castform some more threat. Then he pointed out the flames dancing around his Ludicolo that seemed like they would strengthen the fiery attacks this thing was putting out. I agreed, and told my Pokemon to keep up the offensive.

(OOC: I think Ludicolo could turn his Own Tempo off, but I think it would be wise to still attack with him for now, since I don't think he'll take too much damage till next round.)

Round 3

Pandora recovers from her stupor and immediately heals Tango, while the other team mates keep attacking relentlessly. Heatran pays back with a powerful blast of flames that invest multiple Pokemon, weakening their defenses against the beast's fiery might in the process. Moreover, the water spray that insofar shielded the squad seems to have dried up.

Unfortunately, before I knew it the Heatran started to blow it's top by using Eruption. I didn't think it even learned that move! I knew we would have to act fast in order to keep our team afloat.

"Nuts, this isn't good at all. Harold, the way I see it we're either going to need to get threat off of Ludicolo or go on an all out offensive. If you want to go the safer route, have Ludicolo use Double Team, twice if possible, but at least once and a Chill. This way Castform can hopefully get threat this round and hold it until the flame buffet wears off. By my estimates Castform should be able to take threat at the end of this round...though that probably means we'll have to weather some more Eruptions. The only problem I see with this strategy is if a Conflagrate comes Castform's way. Alternatively, since we're doing about 400 damage per round, if we can survive maybe four rounds of combat we could potentially beat Heatran that way, but that seems unecessarily risky."

Cumulus (Castform): Weather Ball~Hydro Pump.

I'm running over a few things, and I don't think that the Eruptions are that threatening, although I'd like to drop Ludi's threat myself because Flame Buffet is made of pure rage. I feel the best approach for us would be to go with boosting Castform's threat with Helping Hand boosted attacks, making substitutions if Heatran Conflags too early. Ludi will probably Double Team once anyway. The alternative approach is to just let them stack up and heal at a once per action rate - it'll still be a couple of hits before the Buffet makes that outpaced, and as it stands we're going to have issues getting Castform above Ludi...

One thing I would like is for Necturna to Shell Smash A2 if Heatran does not Conflagrate this round - this means that we can safely ensure that Gravity goes up in the next round without having to worry that Exeggutor will be have to handle it at the time - plus, increasing her damage output will still be useful, esp. with her low natural damage output (A Stone Edge isn't doing a lot, you'll probably only need 3 solid hits to match that)

Sorry, I thought I'd try to grab you for a full chat on IRC, but timezones.

"OK, as much as I hate to admit it Ludicolo you need to take a breather... thankfully you're still otherwise fine, including EN-Total, but still. Best result here is probably for someone like Exeggutor to be hit by Conflagrate A1, more realistically it'll be Castform hit A2. Worse case scenario leaves us still on track though, which is nice."

Round 4

The team holds back, in an attempt to change Heatran's target, but the beast keeps attacking Ludicolo with its fiery blasts. Eventually though its attention shifts to Cumulus, as the Castform keeps smacking it with powerful Water-type attacks.

The Fire-type beast turns on Cumulus and smacks it with a beam of sunlight, but the beam is quite weak and the Castform has little problems in soaking it up like it were nothing.

Fortunately, the flames dancing around Ludicolo dissipated. With that done, we could renew our full assault...although we would have to chill eventually.

(Dogfish: Ludicolo should enable Own Tempo again, and I think Cherrim should send a Heal Pulse his way if possible. I am thinking that if we play our cards right, we can Chill A1 next round, deal about 100 damage, then finish him on the eighth round, but it's up to you.)

Castform: Double Team~Water Gun
If Ludicolo currently holds the boss's aggro on A2, then use Hydro Pump A2 instead.

Origin (Stratagem): Mud Shot~Earth Power

Pandora (Necturna): Shadow Mend (Ludicolo)~Thunder Fang

Alurani (Roserade): Weather Ball~Hidden Power
