[Overview]

At first glance, Woobat is yet another mediocre Psychic-type special attacker. However, Woobat's Dream World ability, Simple, sets it apart from the rest, allowing it to double both its Special Attack and Special Defense after a single Calm Mind. This ability to quickly set up, combined with Woobat's decent Special Attack and good Speed, gives Woobat the potential to ravage opposing teams after a single free turn. Unfortunately, Woobat is incredibly frail even with the help of Eviolite, being 2HKOed by most unresisted physical attacks. Support from its teammates to take on strong physical attackers is needed so Woobat can shine.

[SET]
name: Simple CM
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Psychic
move 3: Air Slash / Roost
move 4: Heat Wave
item: Eviolite
ability: Simple
nature: Timid
evs: 76 HP / 236 SpA / 12 SpD / 180 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

This set aims to exploit Woobat's only niche, Simple and Calm Mind, which allows Woobat to double its Special Attack and Special Defense in one turn. Thanks to its good Speed and decent Special Attack, Woobat can take advantage of Calm Mind's Special Defense boost to find opportunities to set up against weaker Pokemon that use special attacks, such as RestTalk Chinchou and Slowpoke. Psychic is a strong, reliable STAB move, hitting the numerous Fighting-types in LC super effectively. Psychic is a superior choice over Stored Power thanks to its reliability; it's still almost as powerful as Stored Power after one Calm Mind and Woobat is more likely to need to attack immediately than to find an opportunity to Calm Mind twice. Air Slash is Woobat's secondary STAB, useful for hitting Scraggy super effectively, hitting Murkrow neutrally, and coming through from time to time with its handy flinch chance. Although Woobat has poor defenses, Roost can help to improve its survivability, especially when setting up against weaker special attackers. Heat Wave improves Woobat's coverage greatly, heavily damaging the Steel-types, such as Ferroseed, Bronzor, Magnemite, and Pawniard, which would otherwise take little damage from Woobat.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Woobat can easily set up against weak special attackers. It also has the ability to set up on as many Fighting-types, such as Croagunk and Mienfoo lacking Stone Edge. However, Woobat loses to most other fast physical attackers; Murkrow destroys Woobat, OHKOing with LO Drill Peck or Sucker Punch while Air Slash only does around 40% to it unboosted. Defensive Porygon is a great teammate for Woobat, as it checks Murkrow and many other physical attackers while spreading paralysis to assist Woobat in sweeping the opposing team. Woobat can also take advantage of Porygon's tendency to lure Fighting-types to get an opportunity to set up. In general, physically bulky Pokemon—especially Pokemon that can threaten specially defensive behemoths such as Lileep and Munchlax—are good partners for Woobat. Timburr pairs well with Woobat, resisting the Rock-type attacks it is weak to, heavily damaging Lileep and Munchlax, and taking advantage of Toxic aimed at Woobat with Guts. Psyshock can be run over Psychic to better damage specially bulky Pokemon at the expense of some power. Hidden Power Ground can be run over Heat Wave to do more damage to Magnemite and Aron. Life Orb can be used as the item for more power, but lack of Eviolite will compromise Woobat's bulk, especially its Defense.

[Other Options]

Every Woobat set should run Calm Mind and Simple; it is simply the best niche it has in LC. Taunt can be used to prevent Lileep and Bronzor from badly poisoning Woobat with Toxic. An all-out attacking set is possible thanks to Woobat's movepool, but it is outclassed by Abra, which is more powerful, faster, and has Magic Guard. Woobat can also run a Choice Specs set with Psychic, U-turn, Air Slash, and Heat Wave but its frailty and the disadvantages of locking Woobat into Psychic would make that set mediocre. Amnesia allows Woobat to hit +4 Special Defense in a single turn, but it is almost never as useful as Calm Mind.

[Checks and Counters]

Woobat's checks mainly consist of physical attackers, which are either faster than Woobat or have access to priority moves. Murkrow possesses both of these qualities, and its high Attack allows it to OHKO even Eviolite Woobat easily. Pawniard can switch in on most of Woobat's attacks and hurt it badly with Sucker Punch, although it must be wary of Heat Wave. Ponyta has good Special Defense and can outspeed Woobat to ravage it with Flare Blitz. Other strong physical attackers, such Drilbur and Elekid, perform similarly well against Woobat. Lileep can switch into all of Woobat's moveset and use Toxic to stall it out; Bronzor can survive a Heat Wave and do the same.

[Overview]

 • Overall mediocre as a special attacker
 • Decent SpA and good Spe (hits 17 speed) but shitty defenses
 • Usable movepool and decent typing allows it to switch into common fighting-type attacks
 • cool dream world ability simple allows it to hit +2 +2 after a single CM
 • unfortunately its lack of bulk prevents it from being a boosting powerhouse, but if you can get a setup opportunity with the right support woobat can shine
[SET]
name: Simple CM
move 1: Calm Mind
move 2: Psychic
move 3: Air Slash / Roost
move 4: Heat Wave
item: Eviolite
ability: Simple
nature: Timid
evs: 76 HP / 236 SpA / 12 SpD / 180 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

 • Calm Mind takes advantage of Simple, its only niche as it's outclassed by Abra in every other way
 • Psychic is strong STAB, preferred over Stored Power because sometimes you need to actually attack
 • Psychic obviously hits fighting-types and other things it hits things super effectively hard honestly this is total fluff and i'm not putting it in the analysis that's dumb. i hope people know their type charts.
 • Air Slash gives secondary STAB that hits Murkrow and Scraggy as well as being relatively spammable off the bat
 • Heat Wave hits ferroseed, bronzor, magnemite, pawniard
 • Woobat has shit bulk but can run Roost if you want to improve its survivability
 • good speed allows you to beat a lot of mons once set up but makes it difficult to get setup opportunities
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

 • can set up on weak special attackers like resttalk chinchou, slowpoke, frillish is pushing it a little
 • switches in easily on mienfoo only being bothered by knock off / stone edge
 • same goes for croagunk, cm and lol at shadow ball
 • timburr etc
 • smashed by murkrow which outspeeds and ohkoes you with LO Drill Peck, non-LO Brave Bird, and any sucker punch at all, while air slash is only doing around 40% unboosted
 • hidden power ground does more to magnemite and hits aron better as well
 • you can run LO for more power, always ohko murkrow with +2 air slash, but your bulk is nonexistent
 • if you don't run air slash you are utterly fucked by murkrow
 • again, stored power is an option, but it's not that helpful because even after one calm mind it only does marginally more damage than psychic-- and you're not going to get more than one CM against a competent player
 • psyshock hits specially defensive mons like lileep in sand harder, at the expense of doing less damage to hippo
 • run physically bulky pokemon because woobat can deal with special attacks once set up
 • porygon counters murkrow and appreciates woobat's ability to deal with fighting-types
 • timburr treats lileep and its toxics like setup fodder
[Other Options]

 • taunt stops lileep and bronzor from toxicing you
 • Amnesia is hilarious to get +4 after a single turn, but honestly not worth it
 • Any set without calm mind is straight up outclassed by Abra
 • shitty choice specs set with psychic / u-turn / air slash / heat wave
[Checks and Counters]

 • murkrow wrecks woobat
 • pawniard can take an unboosted heat wave and wrecks woobat with sucker punch
 • lileep switches in on anything, takes only 46% max from +2 hp fighting in sand, toxics and stalls
 • woobat can't take a lot of hits so faster mons that hit physically (think scarf mienfoo, drilbur, ponyta) will be able to take it down

Heat Wave also hits Pawniard for SE damage. State how Psychic can do a good amount of damage to Fighting-types like Croagunk and Timburr.

I might just be bad at Little Cup (it HAS been a while) but when I played, Woobat NEVER had an opportunity to set up. It's destroyed by the ubiquitous Murkrow, can't bypass walls like Chinchou and Misdreavus without super effective moves, and just didn't perform well.

Also, Stored Power is worth a slash imo since if you actually manage to set up it has base 100 power after one Calm Mind.

Stored Power has been discussed before, and the argument for Psychic was that having that STAB attack for random situations is more useful than the 10 extra BP.

Woobat is alright if you give it the correct support. It's certainly more frail than you would want it to be, but after a CM it is pretty monstrous. Murkrow is certainly an issue, but it can be worked around, especially if you have Roost.

Also put Pawniard with Murkrow in Checks and Counters. While it doesn't like Heat Wave, it can take an unboosted one and KO with Sucker Punch easily. Get to writing!

GP Approved (1 + 1/3) /2 = 4/3 | 2 = 4 / 6 = 2/3

statistically speaking, this quantitative analysis for Abra/Alakazam is terrible. We shall make an assumption that this Pokemon's level. So essentially, this Abra is equivalent to the amount of effort this check took compared to a full-on check. So this is a baby abra as all I did was see that sentence, cringe at its redundnacy, and offer a very easy fix keeping original wording. So we shall say this Abra is level 1. A full power Alakazam is level 100, but in order to have a stamp, it must be an alakazam, and for an abra to be an alakazam it must go to level 16 and then be traded. So roughly, this estimate is about (1/(16 + trade)), but how does one quantify trade?

The answer is in what is obtained through the trade. The Kadabra receives better stats, better IQ, and most importantly that significantly larger moustache, all of which are signs that it has become a man, which makes sense if you convert levels into age, as boys do go through puberty at 16 and develop facial hair. The most significant step to becoming a man according to the guy's handbook is to get laid. Now, Alakazam has some 5,000-odd IQ, so it most CERTAINLY knows the big bucks are in engineering. So, 4 years in engineering school, and what the hell, let's throw in another 2 for a PhD. The reason why 6 years should be added to the time before v-card lost is ENGINEERING SCHOOL... Now a smart Kazam would only need say 5 years to rake in BIG bucks to pay off that student debt and shit (people are racist towards this boy and don't give him the financial aid he needs) and also to develop adequate social skill to find a nice partner. So 16 + 6 = 22 + 5 = 27, and hell, let's assume that Alakazam is a very Timid fellow as most Alakazam are, we'll give it a leeway of 3 more years. This also makes sense because Essentially, it's at 1/30 of the way of becoming an Alakazam, a full stamp.

Now, if we do the math we have (1 + (1/30))/2 => (31/30)/2 => 31/60. ;/ that's TWO more checks to be filled :( (Good thing we're not using this system xD)
