Wormadam-S (GP 2/2)

[Overview]

Even though a Steel typing is very attractive in the NU tier, Wormadam-S sadly cannot keep up with the metagame. It exerts no offensive pressure and relies on Leftovers for recovery; it is easy bait for opposing setup sweepers. In fact, the only niche Wormadam-S has over other Steel-types such as Metang and Probopass is its Bug typing, which allows it to avoid the KO from many Ground- and Fighting-type attacks. While that is a nice perk, the only thing Wormadam-S will be able to do to contribute to its team is to set up Stealth Rock and wall specific Pokemon such as Kangaskhan.

[SET]
name: Utility
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Toxic
move 3: Protect
move 4: Gyro Ball
item: Leftovers
nature: Relaxed
ability: Anticipation
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
ivs: 0 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Wormadam-S fits best on stall and balanced teams. It primarily sets up Stealth Rock, providing its team with a reliable damage source. Stealth Rock also limits the amount of times Fire-types can switch into it, which is nice considering that Fire-types counter this set. After setting up, Wormadam-S spends the rest of its time crippling opponents with Toxic. It also uses Protect to rack up Toxic damage and Leftovers recovery. Gyro Ball is the STAB attack of choice as Wormadam-S needs the highest damage output possible to leave any sort of dent in the opponent.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Wormadam-S uses a Relaxed nature and 0 Speed IVs is to power up Gyro Ball. Wormadam-S can use a more specially defensive spread to counter Psychic-types better. Anticipation is the most helpful ability because it warns Wormadam-S of any surprising coverage moves the opponent might carry. Iron Head is an option instead of Gyro Ball because it has more PP, but the lack of power is disappointing. Pokemon that resist Fire-type moves, such as Seismitoad, Camerupt, and Carracosta, make great defensive partners for Wormadam-S, and Camerupt can also phaze Pokemon trying to set up on it. Toxic Spikes support from Garbodor is very helpful to Wormadam-S as it aids in its stalling capabilities. Roselia can also set them up reliably, but stacking Fire-type weaknesses is not a safe idea. Lastly, Wish support is common in stall and balanced playstyles from teammates such as Lickilicky, Alomomola, and Audino and keeps Wormadam-S alive longer.

[Other Options]

Due to Wormadam-S's sparse movepool, there are not many other options for it to consider. Sucker Punch can be used, but with Wormadam-S's low Attack, it won't do satisfactory damage. Endeavor is another cool option, but Wormadam-S is too slow to use it effectively. Signal Beam and Flash Cannon are two options for attacking moves, but these moves are underwhelming with Wormadam-S's low power. Lastly, Wormadam-S can set up weather, but Pokemon with better Speed and abilities are more reliable for the job.

[Checks and Counters]

Fire-type Pokemon are great counters to Wormadam-S, with popular examples being Charizard, Simisear, and Camerupt. Strong, neutral STAB attacks usually 2HKO Wormadam-S as well; Water-, Electric-, Ground-, and Fighting-types such as Ludicolo, Eelektross, Golurk, and Sawk can 2HKO with their respective STAB moves. Poison- and Steel-types can switch in and set up entry hazards or boosting moves without fearing Toxic. Taunt users such as Samurott, Serperior, and Mandibuzz also mess up Wormadam-S's antics. Lastly, Pokemon that aren't weak to Gyro Ball and have Substitute, such as Braviary and Gorebyss, can easily set up on Wormadam-S and sweep the opposing team.

[Overview]
 • Even though a Steel typing is attractive in NU, it can't keep up with the current metagame.
 • No offensive pressure, and it relies on leftovers for recovery.
 • All it can do is set up Stealth Rock and wall specific Pokemon, such as Kangaskhan, Tauros and Jynx.
 • A niche typing that allows it to avoid the KO from CB Sawk and the neutrality to Ground and Fighting helps differentiate's it from other Steels.
 • Can easily be set up on by many sweepers.
 • Better off using Metang, who outclasses Wormadam-S in almost every way.
[SET]
name: Utility
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Toxic
move 3: Protect
move 4: Gyro Ball
item: Leftovers
nature: Relaxed
ability: Anticipation
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
ivs: 0 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
 • Fits best on defensive and balanced teams
 • Stealth Rock is the main move of the set, as it supports the team with constant, reliable damage. It helps weaken the Fire-types that threaten Wormadam-S greatly.
 • Toxic is Wormadam-S's most reliable damage output.
 • Protect stalls Toxic damage and allows Leftovers recovery.
 • Gyro Ball is needed to deal decent damage.
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
 • Iron Head can be used for more PP, but the loss of power is devastating.
 • Can easily go specially defensive to wall Psychic-types better.
 • Partners well with Fire resists, such as Carracosta, that can also phaze out sweepers that set up on Wormadam-S as well.
 • Seismitoad can take the Electric-, Fire-, and Water-type attacks that can break through Wormadam-S.
 • Toxic Spikes support from Garbodor aids in Wormadam-S's stalling capabilities. Scolipede and Roselia also reliably set them up, but you must be careful about stacking Fire weaknesses.
 • Wish support is appreciated and is easily accessible in defensive and balanced playstyles from Alomomola or Lickilicky.
[Other Options]
 • Not much
 • Sucker Punch but it lacks the offenses
 • Weather is an option but it is outclassed by Pokemon with reliable recovery and better abilities.
 • Flash Cannon and Signal Beam could fit on a special set, but Wormadam-S is too weak on that spectrum also.
 • Endeavor seems cool but it is too slow to make it effective.
[Checks and Counters]
 • Fire-type coverage (Charizard. Camerupt, Eelectross, etc.) but they must all be wary of Toxic.
 • Strong, neutral STABs from, for example, Water- Ground-, Fighting-, and Electric-types, can easily 2HKO Wormadam-S (Sawk, Samurott, Golurk, etc.)
 • Poison-types can easily switch in and set up hazards, or boosts.
 • Steel-types cannot be harmed by Toxic or Gyro Ball, so they make great counters.
 • Taunt stops it from setting up SR or using Toxic (Serperior or Samurott are good options)
 • Pokemon not weak to Gyro Ball with Substitute can easily set up on Wormadam-S, such as Braviary and Gorebyss.

why does this set use 248 hp instead of 252?
also i wouldnt say it fits best on stall teams since it doesnt really beat any significant threats other than musharna. defensive or balance teams would be more accurate imo
mention spdef spread since it helps counter jynx and other psychics better

•Partners well with Fire resists like Camerupt and Grumpig, who fit the stall playstyle nicely and can phaze out sweepers who set up on Wormadam-S.

I'd change this now that you don't say its good on stall. Mention things like carracosta or Samurott instead imo

•Toxic Spikes support from Garbodor aids in Wormadam-S's stalling capabilities.

mention other tspikers too (basically just Roselia and Scolipede)

•Wish Support is easily accessible in stall and allow Wormadam-S to wall longer.

once again, should remove the stall mention and just say wish support is appreciated due to the lack of recovery outside of leftovers

say in the overview how its a good check to stuff like Tauros, Kangaskhan and Jynx.

obviously I'm not qc so you don't have to implement this stuff

Yea thanks I will fix most of those things. I'm hesitant to add Scolipede and Roselia to the list because compounding Fire-resists is never a good idea.

id still mention them, as you can easily cover charizard (the only relevant fire type except maybe torkoal) in the rest of your team. you could mention that garbodor is preferred as it has decent synergy

You could maybe add Water-types in Checks and Counters as they literally take nothing from Gyro Ball and only really fear Toxic.

sorry for the huge red and blue tape but i think these changes are necessary
first of all implies a list that fulfils a condition or something, which was wrong in this case
i'll explain it all if youd like n_n

Nice job. Your grammar was great; I just made some corrections to clarify sentences and enhance the prose. Nice work!
