YUM or YUCK: CAP Edition

approved by HeaLnDeaL, idea from Amaura, art by Wyverii

Counter That Pokemon!
What's up CAP friends! For anyone that's seen or participated in a "Counter That Threat!" thread, this is a similar, but simpler version of that project. Your goal is to reply with a counter to the set above you. The opponent will always make the right moves and have perfect prediction, so make sure you post a full counter!

For example, let's say I start off the thread by posting a set for Colossoil. HeaLnDeaL can respond by posting a set for Tomohawk. HeaL's Tomohawk counters my Colossoil (YUM), so the next person needs to post a counter to HeaL's Tomohawk, and so on. If no one can come up with a counter for a certain threat, I'll reset the game after a few days. In this thread, you can be as creative as you want, just keep in mind that posting a weird/unviable set might be really easy for the next person to counter. All Pokemon legal in CAP and OU are fair game!

There are just a few rules

1. If two people respond to a threat at the same time, the first one to post takes priority. Or, if the first poster doesn't actually counter the threat (YUCK), the first one to post with a real counter takes priority, and their Pokemon becomes the next threat to counter.
2. FOCUS SASH IS BANNED - Hopefully this is self-explanatory; this item gives freedom to many Pokemon to defeat a bunch of mons they wouldn't normally counter. So please don't submit mons with Focus Sash.
3. The ability to win must be greater than 50%, preferably much higher. If your mon relies on hitting multiple Focus Blasts in a row or Zap Cannon or something, it won't be counted.
4. Don't make reservation posts. This is a somewhat fast-paced project, so take the time to make an actual post if you're going to post.
5. Don't post terribly unviable sets for the sake of posting terribly unviable sets. It goes against the spirit of this project, as it requires next to no thought for the next poster to counter the mon, and it doesn't teach us any relevant information about the metagame. I'm completely fine with niche or lesser used mons being used, but not intentional garbage mons (use your judgement).

It's my hope that this thread will be entertaining for all and foster some potential ideas for teambuilding. Let's get started!

The first Pokemon:

Krilowatt @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power

Shedinja @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Wonder Guard
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Sneak
- Will-O-Wisp
- X-Scissor

Shedinja hard walls Krillowatt, boosts up to +6, and OHKOes with X-Scissor.

+6 252+ Atk Shedinja X-Scissor vs. HP / 0 Def Krilowatt: 577-679 (129.9 - 152.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

EDIT: Fixed nature to match calc, sorry.

Ferrothorn @ Choice Band
Ability: Anticipation

- Explosion
- Gyro Ball
- Knock Off

0- SpA Ferrothorn Hidden Power Flying vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Shedinja: 116-138 (11600 - 13800%) -- guaranteed OHKO

What needs to be done here is very simple. Switch in and use HP Flying for an incredible percentage of damage, or, Skill Swap away the Wonder Guard from Shedinja, have Odor Sleuth used, and then prepare yourself for this:

252+ Atk Choice Band Ferrothorn Explosion vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Shedinja: 669-788 (66900 - 78800%) -- guaranteed OHKO

You're countering the first mon to counter the thing before it. For example, Shedinja countered Krill, so Ferrothorn countered Shedninja, and now Cyclohm counters Ferrothorn.

Malaconda @ Choice Band
Ability: Inflitrator
Evs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 Def
Nature: Adamant
- Power Whip
- Wild Charge

- U - Turn

Wigs, the cyclohm was pretty amazing at being a serious set btw
anyways, this set has been really surprisingly good on the ladder, so here it comes!
Power Whip makes Gastro cry

Ignoring Jiggly and knocking out Cyclohm:

Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet

252 Atk Choice Band burned Malaconda Power Whip vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Gastrodon: 450-530 (105.6 - 124.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Mala counters Gastro for all intents and purposes, even if they do fish for a Scald burn. Even if it misses 4 times in a row it will win. Ignoring the Garchomp that ignored the Cyclohm.

Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
- Superpower
- Swords Dance
- Bug Bite
- Bullet Punch

252+ Atk Choice Band Malaconda Knock Off vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Scizor: 109-130 (38.7 - 46.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ Atk Choice Band Malaconda Wild Charge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Scizor: 101-119 (35.9 - 42.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

You can switch in, get a SD in, and annihilate Malaconda with Bug Bite.

Rotom - Heat @ Choice Scarf
EVs: 252 SpA/4SpD/252 Speed
-Trick
-Overheat
-Volt Switch
-Hidden Power Ice
Modest Nature

Hidden Power Ice should instantly KO garchomp, and I am serious because I use this in OU

alright, to avoid further confusion, we're going to continue with Rotom-H as the mon to counter. don't "ignore" mons unless you can disprove them as a counter.

Walls Sylveon to hell and back, also can use leech seed to drain Sylveon's HP

Lava Plume does shit damage to CharY, Leech Seed is a nuisance but can be Roosted off, and Fire Blast takes enormous chunks off of Pyroak.

roak uses leech seed on the switch, it restores enough hp per turn with leech seed+lefties+synthesis to pp stall fire blast (synthesis is boosted by sun), so it comes down to hitting multiple focus blasts in a row (not reliable enough to be a full counter)

Chansey @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
- Toxic
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
- Heal Bell

Takes nothing from Pyroak (and Char-Y as well) and easily heals off any damage with Softboil; Toxic puts Pyroak on a timer.

Lucario @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch
- Extreme Speed
- Swords Dance

Lucario may be slightly worse in CAP than in OU due to a plethora of new threats that aren't kind to its Fighting/Steel defensive typing, but it still does its job as a wallbreaker with success. It laughs in the face of a Toxic and needs just one Close Combat to take Chansey clean out of commission.

  • Chansey Seismic Toss vs. 0 HP Lucario: 100-100 (35.5 - 35.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
  • 252+ Atk Life Orb Lucario Close Combat vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 663-780 (103.2 - 121.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

OK, let's have a go:

Kitsunoh @ Leftovers
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Shadow Strike
- U-turn
- Will-O-Wisp
- Knock Off

Don't see this very often anymore, but WoW Kitsunoh is still a viable threat, especially against this Lucario, as it's immune to E-speed and CC, while it can take a +2 LO CC or three and respond by either burning, Knocking Off the Life Orb or going for the KO with Shadow Strike. Not a perfect, perfect counter, but deals with it well enough to be considered a full counter (I think). There is probably a better counter, but yeah.

252+ Atk Life Orb Lucario Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Kitsunoh: 60-70 (16.4 - 19.2%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb Lucario Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Kitsunoh: 118-140 (32.4 - 38.4%) -- 3.3% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 252+ Atk Life Orb burned Lucario Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Kitsunoh: 58-70 (15.9 - 19.2%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery (same as 1st one really)

4 Atk Kitsunoh Shadow Strike vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Lucario: 118-141 (41.9 - 50.1%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO
4 Atk Kitsunoh Shadow Strike vs. -1 0 HP / 4 Def Lucario: 178-210 (63.3 - 74.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Pidgeot @ Pidgeotite
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Heat Wave
- Roost
- U-turn

Pidgeot takes low damage from Knock Off and U-turn and is immune to Shadow Strike. Will-O-Wisp simply makes it taste flippin delicious; way too delicious for Kitsunoh to handle. Heat Wave in turn just shares the fried fun with friends.

252 Atk Kitsunoh Knock Off vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Pidgeot: 77-91 (25 - 29.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
(77, 78, 79, 80, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 88, 89, 90, 91)

252+ SpA Mega Pidgeot Heat Wave vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Kitsunoh: 282-332 (93.6 - 110.2%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 192 SpD / 68 Spe
Calm Nature
- Lava Plume
- Earth Power
- Toxic
- Protect

Heatran handily walls KFP and can whittle away at its health with Toxic / Protect.

252 SpA Mega Pidgeot Hurricane vs. 248 HP / 192+ SpD Heatran: 67-79 (17.4 - 20.5%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery (even more when factoring in Protect)
Mega Pidgeot Heat Wave vs. Flash Fire Heatran: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- aim for the horn next time
0- Atk Mega Pidgeot U-turn vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 9-10 (2.3 - 2.5%) -- possibly the worst move ever

+2 252 Atk Garchomp Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 1248-1468 (324.1 - 381.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Garchomp can switchin with ease and heal off any status with Lum berry and then immediately OHKO with Earthquake, or if Lum Berry wasn't activated on the switch, boost up to kill Heatran several times over.

Weavile @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
Jolly Nature
- Icicle Crash

252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 110-133 (32.9 - 39.8%) -- 17.9% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Ice Shard vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 47-56 (14 - 16.7%) -- possible 9HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Icicle Crash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 99-117 (29.6 - 35%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Weavile Low Kick (80 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 61-73 (18.2 - 21.8%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 Atk Skarmory Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 24 Def Weavile: 198-234 (70.4 - 83.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Skarm can come in on Weavile and 2KO with Iron Head, or even maybe set up rocks and then Roost off some damage and then kill it. If you're feeling really playful, you could whittle Weavile down to 25% with Iron Head and LO damage then Whirlwind it out, leaving it dead as long as rocks are up and also damaging another Pokemon that comes in. (Obviously, you'd have to shut down/take out the hazard control first).

Uses Skarmory as set-up fodder, thanks to Skarmory's inability to do anything to Mega Sableye, thanks to Magic Bounce and how little Iron Head does to Mega Sableye, and after Mega Sableye gets to +2, it can 2hko Skarmory, and Skarmory can't try to roost stall anymore after +3 or if Sableye manages to get the special defense drop
