So... is the physical prowess of Sucker Punch madatory or is the special scarf set viable enough in the long term?
Would be sad if all the time for my 31/31/30/30/31/31 timid Yveltal was wasted. (although I missed 1 SpA IV)

I'd say run a special scarf set, or if you want a revenge killer just use Specs. That would be best IMO with that nature.

Dark Pulse / Obvlivion Wing / Focus Blast / U-Turn (Yes, even with -Atk, I think it's viable enough)

EDIT:

I came up with this set

Steel Wing

Yveltal @ Life Orb
Trait: Dark Aura
EVs: 252 Spe / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Nature: Adamant
- Steel Wing
- Hone Claws
- Dragon Rush
- Sucker Punch

Steel Wing, STEEL WING, 70 base power, 90 accuracy, 10% chance of +1 Def. You might think I'm crazy but I think I'm awesome, Yveltal is weak to Ice, Rock, Fairy, and Electric. Well guess what? Steel Wing takes care of Rock, Ice, AND FAIRY. Even with only 70 power, but with 131 Base attack and 252+ it might actually do something, especially if super effective. After one Hone claws, Yveltal can actually dent stuff.

here are some calcs (Made meteor mash power 70 and custom with 131 base attack and dark)

+1 252+ Atk Life Orb (custom) Meteor Mash vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 304-359 (88.88 - 104.97%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb (custom) Meteor Mash vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 304-359 (75.24 - 88.86%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb (custom) Meteor Mash vs. 56 HP / 0- Def Kyurem-B: 367-434 (90.61 - 107.16%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb (custom) Meteor Mash vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Terrakion: 359-424 (110.8 - 130.86%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+1 252+ Atk Life Orb (custom) Meteor Mash vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Mamoswine: 395-465 (109.41 - 128.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Dragon Rush is for extra coverage, Sucker Punch is also important for scarfers and faster pokemons, and with dark aura, it can do a lot

Although steel wing sounds nice in theory, I don't think it would be worth it for big bird to set up a Hone Claws to just to have a chance to KO an offensive Tyranitar, even with a super effective hit Sucker Punch will outdamage Steel Wing considerably thanks to STAB and Dark Aura. Mamoswine and Terrakion will also outspeed you with priority and base speed respectively.

Factoring in Dark Aura

+1 252+ Atk Life Orb (custom) Sucker Punch vs. 56 HP / -0 Def Kyurem-B: 313-370 (100.49 - 118.76%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Yeah, while I'd say that speed is the overall best set for this guy, so I decided on either Hasty or Timid... Which is awesome because after hours of resetting, passing on a great Hasty on my very first catch. I just caught a Timid one with 27/31/13/31/31/31. :)

+1 4 Atk Life Orb (custom) Sucker Punch vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Ho-Oh: 302-356 (72.77 - 85.78%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Life Orb (custom) Oblivion Wing vs. 248 HP / 84 SpD Ho-Oh: 110-133 (26.5 - 32.04%)

Good to hear that Ho-oh can't sub on it.

Currently, I'm fishing the GTS for a good Yveltal.

Fishing the GTS? I got my hands on a crappy Yveltal through trading and I'm putting it up on GTS for another Yveltal. I'll keep doing this until I get a descent one.

If anyone has a Hasty/Naive Yveltal with Almost close to perfect IVs, PM me. I have a bunch of 5-4 Iv Bred Pokemon for trade.

By close to perfect I mean: 31/31/X/31/x/31
