This was the standard UU Venomoth back when I used to see it. The setup is just to Sleep Powder, or Stun Spore, then Curse up and Sludge Bomb/Hidden Power Bug the enemy to death.
Other Options
I'd really only consider Psychic, Reflect, and Giga Drain if I were to use a Special sweeper Venomoth. Baton Pass can be nice if you want to pass those hardy Curses, and Thief is fun to steal Skarmory's Leftovers on the switch-in. The Double Powder combo is always nice to utilize.
Opinion
Honestly, Venomoth is a great Pokémon. Like any other, he needs a little support from his 5 other teammates. Not to mention he is great for UU battles. He's rather fragile though.
Counters
Skarmory is the big gun. Venomoth cannot touch it without Hidden Power Fire or Electric, which is also kind of a waste on Venomoth. Golem and other Rock-types will also cause havoc for Venomoth. If you use Giga Drain you can take down Golem with a few predicted switches however. And of course, the standard type counters. Psychics, Fires, Rocks. However, Venomoth can cause some serious hurt, if only Magneton could trap Skarmory in GSC.
