This is the beta.

This is the beta release of the new Smogon.com. It may be up right now, but that doesn't mean it will be up tommorow, or even 5 minutes from now. Some things might look weird, some things might change, but the important thing is that you all be patient and know that work is being done. This beta site is merely up because I am at the point where the site infrastructure is stable and I can make updates live on the server without destroying the universe as we know it.

I will be using this news system to inform you all about developments on the new site. I work on it every day. On average, before the site was stable, I was writing about 200-300 lines of Python a day. I sacrificed my friends, free time, and general sanity to do this convert. It has been a huge nightmare, but finally the fruits of my labor have shown. I can make updates on this new site way faster than I could have ever done on the PHP version which ran from 2004-early 2007.

I hope to have Smogon back to the prestigious level of its predecessors. It will, once again, assume the role of the best source on the internet for competitive Pokémon and continue to harbor intelligent discussion. I hope you all are excited, and I am very sorry about how long it took. I never want to rewrite the site again. :(

This news entry was made via the Smogon Content Management System, a very powerful collaboration tool I created. It is written in Python, like the rest of the site after my massive, several-months-long convert from PHP. PHP sucks.
