Introduction

Are you an avid sports-lover? Do you follow sports merely as a fan, or are you a hardcore, fantasy-playing fan who watches every game that your favorite team plays? Do you like hearing the latest gossip from the world of sports? Is playing your passion, or do you enjoy the thrill of watching a good competitive game on TV? If any of these things are for you, then Pokémon Showdown! offers a great place for all of these things and more: the Sports room! Everything about the room is focused on sports, and it's perfect for expressing your opinion and debating it in an online chat room. Let's take a more in-depth look at some of the features of the Sports room.

Live Chat During Games/Events — Whether it is an NBA game or the NFL Draft, there are people online discussing the event live and giving opinions on it. During the World Cup this past year (2014), we had over 200 users in the room at one point, all enjoying and chatting during the biggest sporting event of the year. While not every game draws in this many users, any game garners attention in the chatroom.

Gossip During the Week — Here at Sports, we take pride in having quick and reliable news/gossip surrounding any given sport. Be it about the more popular sports, such as football, basketball, and soccer, or a lesser known sport such as Formula One, darts, or snooker, if there's breaking news, one of our members is sure to know about it! So if you're desperate to find out the latest scores or some breaking transfer news, feel free to drop by.

Team of the Week — A relatively new feature of the Sports room is the "Team of the Week." Each week (well, we try our best to do it every week) we take a different competitive sports team and try to enlighten our users of its history, past players, and current affairs. It's a great opportunity to gain insight into a variety of sports. Who knows, you could end up becoming a diehard fan of FC St. Pauli or the Edmonton Oilers! If you'd like to show off your favorite team, stop over and PM one of our staff members, and we'll put it on our shortlist.

Fantasy Leagues — What is a fantasy league? A fantasy league is an internet "game" (usually hosted on ESPN or Yahoo!) using real stats and real players on real teams to come up with points based on how well that player performs in real life. For example, if Tom Brady throws for two touchdowns in real life and the point setup in the fantasy league gives players three points per touchdown, then Brady would have six fantasy points. This works for almost any sport on the globe, and while you may not find a table tennis or rugby fantasy league here, we still offer quite a few fantasy leagues. This is one of the many benefits of the Sports room: our interactive leagues. During each respective season for a sport, there is typically a minimum of at least one fantasy league for said sport. While certain sports garner more attention, like football and basketball do, we still have staff-created leagues for soccer/football, baseball, March Madness, and other things. During this past NFL season, we had five leagues created by users in our room, and if each league holds twelve people, there is plenty of room for you to get involved! If you are interested in fantasy leagues hosted by our room, drop by and ask one of us in PM, or ask the chat, as many of the leagues are user-created.

Pony Bot — You may wonder why boTTT is a regular user in the Sports room, but the answer simply because one of our own created a bot for us! That's right, we have a room-specific bot, Pony Bot, created by Panpawn. Pony Bot can mute, ban, and warn, just like boTTT. But it also comes with its own set of features. It can host Panagrams (mentioned below), and it can preview links and YouTube videos to the chat. Pony Bot is an all-around great addition to the Sports room.

Other Events Hosted in Chat — There are two activities that would fall under this category, Trivia and Sports Room Panagrams. Trivia usually consists of a Driver (%) or Moderator (@) using /wall to ask questions to the chat. In between rounds, an assigned scorekeeper keeps track of who answered what and how many points each person has. This can be hosted, in rare exceptions, by a Voice using bold. The Sports Room's Panagrams are hosted entirely by Pony Bot. Pony Bot will jumble up a word, give you the letters to said word, and then you have to guess the word that it jumbled up. This game does not feature a points system as of now, so most times it's played for bragging rights.

Conclusion

Pop in and visit us sometime; we always love seeing new faces join the room and get involved! Hopefully we've tempted you with some of the features discussed above. We look forward seeing you guys in the near future. Thanks for reading!

P.S. We could always do with a few more Liverpool fans!
