This set is the standard set for Snorlax. Body Slam deals a lot of damage with Snorlax's high offense, and it gets a Speed advantage if it paralyzes the opposing Pokémon. Hyper Beam is effective as a finishing move, while Earthquake and Surf are useful against Gengar and Golem or Rhydon respectively. Which move to use depends on which of those Pokémon gives your team more trouble or is more common where you play. SelfDestruct, with STAB, is the most powerful physical attack in RBY and can OHKO a lot of Pokémon. Watch out for your opponent predicting it and switching in a Rock-type or Gengar.
This set takes advantage of Snorlax's tanking ability by boosting its Special and attacking your opponent with powered-up special attacks, then resting when needed. Snorlax can sometimes sweep with this set late-game if it survives the setup. Body Slam allows Snorlax to pack a punch against Chansey while Thunderbolt covers Cloyster and other things. Both of these do a fine job at defeating Starmie.
Other Options
Counter can work against other physical attackers, mainly Tauros. Reflect is only useful against slow physical attackers like other Snorlax, but it could work well when combined with Rest. Altogether, Snorlax has a lot of different moves to choose from which can make it unpredictable.
Opinion
Snorlax has high offense and incredible HP. It's a good tank; its ability to absorb attacks and deal powerful STAB Normal moves make it a great asset to many teams. Unfortunately, it is incredibly slow.
Counters
Gengar fares well against Snorlax without Earthquake, while Cloyster's high Defense lets him handle non-Amnesia Snorlax. Machamp and other Fighting-types can scare off Snorlax temporarily, but have to be wary of that 110 base Attack as well as possible paralysis from Body Slam. Watch out for Surf when using Rhydon or Golem to counter Snorlax, as its Surf will be a 2HKO. Also, once Snorlax gets to around 33% health, there are a few Pokemon you need to be wary of. Alakazam's Psychic will make Snorlax pack its bags. Persian's almost-guaranteed critical hit Slash will take Snorlax down. It's important to be able to predict that SelfDestruct and switch to Gengar or a Rock Pokemon to keep casualties to a minimum.
