Use this set for Muk in UU, where it's right at home. Switch in on a Grasser or a Fighter (hopefully without Earthquake), and hit away. Ice Punch shuts down any unsuspecting Gligar, Hidden Power Ghost is for Misdreavus and Shedinja, and Hidden Power Grass stops Quagsire. There's no need for Special Attack EVs as you need more EVs in Special Attack than it's worth to OHKO either Gligar or Quagsire. Both Hidden Powers should do the job should Solrock come in to counter you.
Slow and over 404 HP, so Muk is automatically a great Subpuncher. With a great Attack, this is something to watch out for. Hidden Power Ghost makes Muk one of the best Gengar counters for standard, Fire Blast hurts the Steel-types (like Metagross and Skarmory) you can expect to come in. In UU, the only Steel that is used sometimes is Mawile which Focus Punch is more than enough for, so use one of the other moves for the reasons explained in the first set.
Great Special Defense and Attack like Snorlax, Muk makes a pretty good Curser. Cursed Explosion is powerful, but with Rest you can keep on tanking. More for standard than UU, though in both it will probably be run over by Psychic and Earthquake.
More novelty than anything. Bring it in like you normally would, and predict what your opponent is going to do. Use the right attack, and hopefully you will hit them hard. Brick Break is a good idea in this set if you're using this in standard, as you will be able to OHKO Tyranitar without having to resort to Focus Punch.
Muk in uber play. Thanks to Sticky Hold and Toxic immunity it can come in on Deoxys-D, and it threatens everything that relies on Recover for its health with its own Toxic. Cursing up shouldn't be too hard with Muk's great Special Defense. Hit Metagross and Psychic Jirachi (the latter is uncommon) on the switch with Hidden Power Ground.
Other Options
Body Slam can paralyze the opponent, and paralysis is always good. Imprison is very unorthodox and works in very rare circumstances, stay away from it until you've tried out the standard Muk. Memento can make your opponent's Pokémon harmless, so you can set up a Belly Drummer next turn. Explosion is more recommended for suicide, though. Thunderbolt and Flamethrower are alternate options of hurting Skarmory and some other counters, but you should try to abuse the higher base power (as well as Thunder's higher paralysis chance). Rest, with or without Sleep Talk, makes your Muk live longer. It's really an easy switch for counters though.
EVs
When you are running no special attacks, at least 401 HP on Muk, 404 if you are using Substitute. Adamant for the SubPuncher, Careful for the Curser, with EVs focused on the stats you are boosting (Attack and Special Defense respectively).
If you are using Thunderbolt or Flamethrower, you need at least 197 Special Attack to have a shot at 2HKOing Skarmory. With Fire Blast or Thunder, 182 Special Attack is the max you will ever need. For these mixed movesets, use a speed-cutting nature: Brave for more Attack, Sassy for more Special Defense.
As you see, Muk is quite hard to spread EVs for, so if you're having a lot of trouble you can just use max HP and Attack and you'll be just fine.
Opinion
As you see in the Counters section, Muk loses to a lot of standards. It's not the lack of movepool or stats, but it has a weakness to the most used physical attack in the game: Earthquake. Plus, even with all these awesome moves, it can only have 4. However, in UU, Muk is very hard to beat if you don't know the set. I recommend Muk for any UU team, but in standard you won't find Muk doing much except surprise people and of course Exploding. It does have a very high cool factor, though.
Counters
Standard: Jirachi, Skarmory, Metagross and other Steel-types are immune to Sludge Bomb. They tend to take quite some damage from either Focus Punch or Fire Blast, but with Earthquake or in Jirachi's case, Psychic, most of them should be able to best Muk one on one. Claydol, Rhydon, Swampert, Donphan, and Golem are Grounds that resist Sludge Bomb and pack enough Defense not to worry about most other things, so they can use STAB Earthquake to shut you down.. Focus Punch may hurt Rhydon and Golem, and the occasional Giga Drain / Hidden Power Grass should shut them down.
Suicune can take most physical assaults, Roar away Curses, and Calm Mind up to Surf you into oblivion. Regirock has so much Defense it doesn't care about Focus Punch too much, resists Sludge Bomb and Explosion, and can Earthquake you. Gengar resists Sludge Bomb 4x, is immune to Explosion and any Fighting / Ground moves you may pack, so unless you carry Hidden Power Ghost or maybe a Special move like Thunderbolt or Fire Blast, Gengar will beat you in the long run, especially if it carries Psychic. Weezing can Will-O-Wisp you unless you get up a Substitute in time. Tyranitar doesn't take Fighting attacks obviously, but still, it resists Sludge Bomb and Fire moves and often packs Earthquake.
In UU, Muk is harder to counter. Its first set isn't shut down by anything completely, except Misdreavus and Shedinja if you run Hidden Power Grass, or Quagsire / Whiscash if you have Hidden Power Ghost. Nidoking and Nidoqueen can take one or two Ice Punches and Earthquake Muk to death.
