Team high five.

If these guys:

were real, they could give a real mean high five.

I needed a new team that didn't really feature any testing things this time, and this line up looks solid somewhat. The first thing that I really to send out is about Vaporeon and Empoleon. Garchomp and Vaporeon were slapped on the end due to poor planning of the team from the beginning of development, and that leaves me with a poor Vaporeon that has to take on all the worst threats of OU. I would like to keep Empoleon, but from what it looks like, if it really benefits the team, I can afford to lose it. It is one of the few pokemon capable of sweeping though (Hera is choiced so I can't see it "sweeping".) So this team needs something like it. Also Vaporeon can be replaced too, that one was thrown on at the time because I didn't know what else to do.

The idea is for Bronzong to get up Rocks right away, then only come in to serve as a Dragon resist. Zapdos should hopefully get early turns in to lay down some para, with Hera soaking up status (preferably sleep) and really wearing down the opponents team mid game. When it's sleeping it's hard to judge what will come out of Sleep Talk since it'll hurt anything pretty hard, and you can't predict the blow either. Then Vaporeon will sacrifice itself to take on Chomp or Gyara (result of poor planning) while hopefully supporting Zapdos switch ins (because of Rocks) and Hera if poisoned / burned. Garchomp / Empoleon for late game.

Thanks to arkeis.com and pokemonelite2000.com for images. I also unknowningly almost made a all blue team, damn you Zapdos. I promise to get a threat list up after someone oks that this team is in the ready stage for one, or after someone manages to clean it up if it really needs it. And I'm sure it does. I can't really see a team that was really only recently thought up of and only has done a few battles doing any good...

The troopers :toast::

bronzong.png

Bronzong @ Lum Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/128 Atk/128 SDef
Relaxed nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Hypnosis
- Explosion

Even with all of those suicide guys around this guy is too solid to pass up. First off, anyone have a better EV spread? It seems too goofy. Anyways, this guy is often the first switch into Garchomp, and I have to see from there what to do. I love all of the steels I can get too, especially ones with only one weak, and this guy even with the never reliable Hypnosis does well in most cases.

zapdos.png

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/220 Def/36 Spd
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Roost
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunder Wave

Very important pokemon to stop for this team. This guy is the backbone often of the time in battle. Fighting resist for the team, and spreading around Thunder Wave like crazy. And this team isn’t the fastest so Thunder Wave seems to be pretty crucial. Hp Ice because I can’t let Garchomp ever get a free turn while I switch to Vap or Bronzong. This guy has fallen many a times to hax though to be honest. This guy is so crucial though, with its EQ immunity, and the only fighting resist of the team, its a shame Stealth Rocks makes him so bare sometimes. My other concern to is that I've heard that Calm Zapdos makes a fine Mixape counter, anyone got a spread for that?

heracross.png

Heracross (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Guts
EVs: 104 HP/252 Atk/154 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Megahorn
- Sleep Talk

Wow, I haven’t used this guy in awhile, and he is awesome. An offensive sleep taker which I can really appreciate, and I really love Sleep Talk with this guy. You’ve got a super boosted Heracross using some high caliber moves, and your opponent can’t predict a safe switch in because you don’t even know what’s going to come out of it. And every attack is so strong with Stone Edge dealing more than 60% on a Skarmony which surprised me. And I love the versatility of once having a safe status to cover you from others you can get a ton of switch ins and scare stuff off with some powerful attacks. In the end, so far, this guy has been a load of fun.

empoleon.png

Empoleon (M) @ Petaya Berry
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 28 HP/12 Def/216 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Hydro Pump
- Agility
- Grass Knot

I wanted Empoleon on this team just because, this guy was really thrown on with the most random moveset I found. I figured I was well off on the defensive side of things and just went with this set (chrisisme set right?) Really, this slot could be used better, but I felt like I wanted Empoleon. And really he hasn’t done too bad yet. It’s fairly easy to set up with him, and he usually puts a decent dent in anything. Also this guy sometimes helps in the crusade against Yache Chomps that are stuck in Outrages and can set up on him, which is never bad because boosted Hydro Pumps finish him off anyways when it hits in the 70% range if I recall? The only downer about this guy is that besides having decent typing, it doesn't do much for the team overall.

garchomp.png

Garchomp (F) @ Yache Berry
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 6 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Outrage
- Earthquake
-Fire Fang
-Swords Dance

Yeah, what team doesn’t really have this right now? He’s guaranteed to get a kill one match, your opponent can’t really avoid it. Jolly to end up in speed ties with all of the other Chomps. This guy provides a neat Fire resist though and his typing just complements any team really especially that electric resist. Forces other Chomps to Outrage though, which makes them super vulnerable for the rest of the team to pick it off.

vaporeon.png

Vaporeon (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 188 HP/252 Def/68 SAtk
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Wish
- Hidden Power [Electric]
- Ice Beam
- Surf

And here is the result of Empoleon taking up a spot. A very busy Vaporeon. Yeah, three attacking Vaporeon. Testing the team I needed another decent Garchomp counter, Gyarados counter, and mixape / heatran counter. So I ended up needing all of the moves. Could this spot be used better though? I never fee good about a Protectless Vap with Wish. Something else that can dent those guys too? Maybe Mesprit?

Another thing, Magnezone rips this team apart, especially if it sets up a sub on anything other than Garchomp since I don't want to waste a Yache trying to break a sub. Also as you can see through the threat list, Empoleon's typing with the electric weak and fighting weak widens a lot of gaps on the team, I've got to take it out.

Thanks guys.:toast:

Aww man, a team that's literally half the same as mine. ;-; Well, just to clear it up, I didn't copy you or anything, I guess that's just what OU does to people, lol.

Anyway, glad to hear Heracross "works". He's my favorite poke, but I've never used a Sleep Talk set before. You'd say Magnezone "tears this team apart" even with Hera tho? Scary.

So, I gotta say props to using Empoleon, he's a pretty crazy poke that's led to my demise more than once, believe it or not. I'm just a nub but it seems to me the penguin could fill more roles than you have right now... maybe if you turn it into your Stealth Rock set up/support and get rid of Bronzong, opening up a spot on your team for something else... ? Just a thought. ;p

Edit: On second thought, I just looked up "Torrent Sweeper" Empoleon on Smogon's strategy thing... seems to be a force to be reckoned with.. 0_o

It's not problem, I'm never going to throw a fit if they are that close. And you're right, I might've overblown that Magnezone weak a bit. Heracross can break the sub, but I want to know if Thunderbolt is like a 2OHKO on Heracross. I should also check to see if Hera can outspeed it too.

Also for that Stealth Rock suggestion. It's a good idea, I was actually thinking about it, but I'm not sure how good Empoleon is on the support deal, I guess Yawn is pretty cool. I'd be doing a lot of switching then too. Might ditch Vaporeon, and I have to add something that can do some sort of damage, as I can't just leave it to Hera and Garchomp.

Thanks for the help.

Starmie with ice beam/thunderbolt/surf/recover can fit in very nicely over vaporeon and give you counters to all of the pokemon that vaporeon did but give you more speed. I'm also not a big fan of vaporeon without wish.

That actually sounds better, the only real issue that I had with Vaporeon was the lack of instant recovery. That speed will be useful too.
