Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Character and Tier Discussion

The only thing that I can say now is that Falco's gonna drop. GW's gonna move into his place or if anyone finds some type of fault with Snake/Meta, he'll probabally take one of their spots. I mean, come on, GW has very nice kill moves with almost no lag, his trumpet (Uair), dthrow + dsmash KOs around 80-ish% near the end of the stage, Up-b can really screw up MK's Nado, Bair, frikken Bair approaches, the list goes on. CGs from Falco aren't really that bad unless you let him spike you, his vertical recovery (and horizonal to an exent) suck and he's so gimpable though he's considered not-so-light. Lasers aren't really that annoying to chars who can deal with them/outprioritize them/reflect them/take them and his aerial game is pretty sub-par, only giving us his Bair :/.
Eh, Umby covered most of this. I will touch on falco's recovery though. You're exaggerating how bad it is. With Brawl DI he's really not put in a bad situation at all. He has a nutty good double jump, can side-b onto the stage or ledge, or he can be tricky and up-b. It's difficult to cover all those options. That said, his recovery is sub-par yeah.... it's not horrible though. It's also very difficult to land a decisive hit on him with lasers eating through all your offensive options <_____>.

Back to G&W rising and Falco dropping. Let's look at matchups. G&W is disadvantaged to MK and Diddy, and gets countered by Snake and Marth. Falco on the other hand only has a tough time against Marth. Him having fairly even matchups with MK and Snake is huge considering their prevalence in the tourney scene. This by itself really limits G&W, and is probably why I (correct me if I'm wrong) have never seen a G&W do very well in a major tourney, unlike Falco.

Oh, and what is up with Falco? He was like the best guy in melee...but then they made him suck, maybe it's just me.
Falco is kinda weird like that. You don't think he's that great until you play a good one and get destroyed :P.

Well my friend has Skype, so I guess I can get on occasionally. I just need everyone's contact.
Mine is "HotGarbage101". What's your friend's?

And yeah, on this topic if anyone wants to join us on skype feel free to join in 8].

That's why you got last at MM14 right?

What does that have to do with anything? I was explaining a quality of G&W's moves, not saying anything personal about my G&W. If you want to make a poke at me as a player, then it doesn't make sense to do it when I'm talking about something unrelated. Plus, the people at Mass Madness are way better than any people who attend icelandic tournaments. Asshole.

And Steeler, there are a few. There's one in my area, I think his name is Fuzzy, and then there's a really good one in Florida, yet hell if I remember his. Also, Reflex has placed with Lucas and PT on a couple of occasions recently. Poor Ness.

hey guys what's up in this here thread the past few days

Oh HG, being disadvantaged against MK does not make G&W worse than Falco in general. Everyone is disadvantaged against MK, except MK. If anything, G&W even has the better match-up. Indeed, he is beat quite well by Snake and Marth, where Falco is not. Of course, G&W also has the best recovery in the game behind MK and Bucket Cancelling pretty much makes him a heavy when it comes to outright killing him. But then Falco is a master camper and blagh blagh blagh they're different characters I know...

At any rate, I'd consider G&W better in general, though the Snake match-up is worrying. But hey, Dedede somehow manages to stay up there, despite having crappy match-ups against MK, G&W, and Falco. -_- (Most overrated character in the game sup)

Reflex placing with PT and Lucas doesn't count since it's obvious he's just a cut above the southern Georgia players he's stealing money from. also ness sux

Please keep in mind that this is not Firebot. Infractions have been handed out as well as PMs to people who are toeing the line. Clean it up.

I personally don't think him placing with Lucas doesn't count, for reason mentioned, but his PT definitely deserves the recognition it gets. 3rd place at Gigabits and 2nd at H.E.R.B. isn't a joke.

agreed but i'm confused by your double negative. from what i know, his lucas really isn't that great, at least not as good as his his other two characters. but both his wario and pt are solid. easily among the best in the nation for both characters.

also

go get 'em firestorm. firestorm firestorm, he's our man, if he can't set you on fire...then no one can

What I meant was, Reflex has started going Lucas in most of his bracket matches at tournaments, but closer towards the end/against high end players, he falls back on PT and Wario. In my personal opinion, that doesn't really earn him a lot of pull as one of the best Lucas users.

I have a few characters I'm good at. I would say my main 3 are Meta Knight, Kirby, and Toon Link, but others I'm good at are: Pikachu, Luigi, Marth, Pokemon Trainer, and Zelda.

Pikachu is an underrated character. His Thunder is useful for gimping and for preventing other characters from approaching you from the air. If they air-dodge, you can often hit them with you Dsmash as they land, and use it to fling them away again. Thunder Jolt gives good ground control, and the way it loops around solid platforms can keep Pikachu from being approached from multiple directions. Pikachu's two forms of recovery, with both Quick Attack and Skull Bash, lets you trick your opponents and be harder to gimp. And Pikachu has an easy way to beat King DeDeDe. Quack Quack!

Seeing as how I've actualyl gotten into Brawl, I can correct my previous post a bit:

Jigglypuff is surprisingly great in the lower tiers, if only she were heavier :/. Her aerial game is almost like Pichu's in Melee and Rest can't really force people to keep their distance because it doesn't kill as well as did in Melee and come on, who ISN'T going to attack a sleeping Puff?. Plus, she can be CG whored by Falco, Pikachu, Peach... well, you get the point, she's light but, too light to survive, plus her ground game sucks balls which is why I ditched her for Kirby.

The only thing that I can say now is that Falco's gonna drop. Wario is moving up and we all saw it coming. The MK mains are pretty much settled on a 50:50 matchup with Wario (though, I'm still unsure). Falco might drop down to the low A tier seeing as how people are finding ways to get around his Lasers... oh and I'm seeing less players fall for CG spikes. Even though the players are getting around Falco, he's still an awesome char. G&W might either drop or stay; he's not moving up. D3... I have no idea about him (being a Kirby main, I should be keeping track of D3 and MK, but whatever). Ugh, fuck the fact that his aerial game isn't as good, Snake should be #1. I don't care why, I just don't want to see MK up there anymore.

Anyway, the next tier list is coming out soon. My predictions are already mentioned, oh and PT is definately moving up to C tier only because of how he can be considered "the #1 CP char"...though, the tier list is reliant on tourney results. PT doesn't have any major disadvantages (none below 30:70) and those are against MK, Marth and Snake.

Squirtle is bottle of rape that's all the really needs to be said. He can make easy combos on the ground and make use of his aerials to setup for those said combos, edgeguarding and gimps. The fun part about Squirtle is the fact that he's so fast and, er, tiny.

Ivysaur is the only one of the three I have fun with. She's like... Captain Falcon in Melee, only with projectiles. Her ground game is very nice, ranging from the damage building Bullet Seed to the awesome Razor Leaf (which never decays) to surprise Vine Whip in your face. Her aerial game is decent, though I only use Uair and Dair if I'm about to be KO'd vertically and forget to DI. Where Ivy's aerial game really shines is her Nair and her Bair. Nair starts so many combos and can meteor (I think it's finishing the Nair at Ivy's back legs) while racking up damage. It doesn't have much landing lag either, which reduces the chance of someone punishing this move. Bair has decent priority but, it's range is why I love it. Ivy's Bair is long enough to keep most attacks away and her vines don't count as Ivysaur herself. I always use Bair for edgeguarding and (some of the time) approaches.

Charizard is just... Charizard is just... he's the best of the 3 imo. He's packed with powerful kills moves, great range, a nice aerial game, very quick movement on the ground, Flamethrower and oh, gliding. Charizard isn't really my ideal pick unless a match up is truely dependant on him (i.e, Ike), though he makes a very good CP against a good amount of chars like DK and (omg, EPIC!) Ivysuar. Charizard's ground game is insane; great ranged, quick moves and to the top it off, most of them have combo or kill potential. Flamethrower is a great way to build up % and is a decent way to get someone out of your face. Rock Smash is rape in a rock, I'm not kidding, any move that can do 40%+ in one go is great in my book. Fly is pretty useful to end combos with (I think it can be used OoS) but, that's really about it. I mostly glide to recover. Charizard's aerial game is alright... Fair gimps are funny.

All 'n all, PT is a nice char but, that fatigue screws him over >.>. Really, Lucario gets his aura boost, why can't PT's Pokemon get their abilities? Eh, I suppose it could be broken.

Oh and Captain Falcon is Chuck Norris' son.

Will put my thoughts down later after I'm done reading the bitchfest. Discuss

Wario is 3rd!! Wahahahaha! His incredible aerial combat, approach counter with Chomp and his Fart have finally been put to good use.

And Captain Falcon's no longer the worse character! Alas replaced by his clone.

Sonic moved up 8 places... I also thought he was ranked too low, but 8 places...

Hm, I never noticed how high Wario was. I just wanted to see C.Falcon, Kirby and PT not drop.

Anyway, people are just dickriding on Wario just because some Warios beat "good" MKs in tournies. Switch Wario with Diddy then switch Marth with Falco and there's your S tier.

Wario can be good, but he's not as good as most characters. I personally am suprised by Triple-D being so high. Maybe because I've never played a good one yet.
