Why is pokemon so addicting?

Why is pokemon so addicting to you? What makes us all say "Im going to quit pokemon" then return 20 minutes later acting ashamed? Well, the reason that i find it so addicting is, for me, pokemon is a challenge to prove myself, to be the best! What are your reasons? Does you mom make you? Do you like beating your sister at stuff? Let's hear your reasons.

Its the knowledge involved, the knowing things and being able to predict well because of it, it gives you a feeling of power really, and that is an addicting feeling indeed and consequently why i play pokemon! :P

I cannot say the same things havent crossed my mind.
@BlakBlastoise lol!

It's not. I think the last time I played was in 2007 I believe. So almost 2 years now with no competitive Pokemon. Maybe when Shoddy Battle 2 or Heart Gold comes out I can get back into it!

I don't really care much for pokemon either. I tried to get into it, but it never really clicked.

Pokemon is my anti-drug.

And it's a nice way to waste time. If I'm going to waste time, I might as well do it in a competitive and intellectual manner.

Pokemon used to be addicting for me about 3 years back, now I can't even go on Shoddy and get through 1 minute of a battle without forfeiting due to lack of interest :(

Shame, although i still find it addicting, I dont have the passion i once did.

I got bored of pokemon is 2007 and proceeded to take a 2 year break but to be honest I kind of missed the little critters so I came back...

Pokemon is so addicting because it's a game that we all grew up with and now it's almost a test of intellectual skill what with the team building and the battling. I originally joined netbattle in early 2004 because I got bored of playing my friends and I've been playing online since, with the exception of the break.

I recently got back into it in the summer and I have to say it is good to be playing again. So for me pokemon is addicting because I see it as a good way to keep my brain working as well as meeting some really cool people on here. It's nice to know that there are others out there like me who at 19 years of age still play this game.

I've learned a lot of things from pokemon.... you saying "i see it as a good way to keep my mind going" reminded me of that...

The reason is that there is no set master at pokemon. COmpetative pokemon is a new sport so people want to clime the rankings quickly.

but saying that i HATE CRITS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously this. I get critted and moves miss for me all the damn time, but I keep playing because I can, I enjoy, and I think I'm good at it(at least somewhat) plus some of the people I've met here are pretty cool.

I live in like... the woods. I'm too young to drive, and none of my friends live close by. I have nothing to do lol. Plus it's a good strategy game which helps with quick thinking in school ect.

well right now only tournament battles are keeping me from playing

so i make teams by breeding and trading

otherwise im just on my ps3 xD

In reality, I don't think Pokemon itself is very addicting. imo the most addicting aspect is the community. As an example, I used to be a big part of The Sims 2 community (shut up :P), where a majority of the users created downloadable additions to the game (like myself) but didn't actually play it. Thriving to impress the respected members of the community (and trying to become one) took you over.
