Captcoconuts Ragtag Pirate Crew

So here is my first team sense my break due to school and work kicking my butt. Well now that school is over and HG/SS are coming out, figured I'd jump back in and try to get my competitive mind frame again. So after playing quite a few battles on shoddy I've noticed a few things. Any sort of spikes/stones pretty much touch my team in their no no spots and sent them to an early grave. I also noticed bulky water types pretty much slowed my pace down a lot too. Was thinking of maybe replacing umbreon with fortres for some spinning action to get rid of spikes but at the same time I'm not so sure I need another bulky pokemon. Which made me think maybe I could get rid of gengar as my special sweeper/revenge kill for starmie. He could special and rapid spin for me, but once again, so much water on the team. Maybe I should just replace the whole team...though I hope its not that hopeless. Well anyways here is my team and I'm always open 100% to any ideas and am more than willing to test them out.

Swampert@ leftovers
Relaxed 252HP, 4Atk, 252Def
-Stealth Rock
-Ice Beam
-Earthquake
-Roar

Swampert was the last pokemon I chose to put on my team. Starters are not one of my strengths so I decided to see what Stealth Rock/Spikes guy I could open with. Good ol' googly eyes came to mind. I wanted a decent opener to drop some rocks and possibly phase stuff out later(which I noticed I was lacking, a phaser). Thats why I chose roar over surf. Also I figured he might be threatening to some of the other starters out there. Forcing them to switch right away into rocks and giving me an early lead on the pace. Plus if he survives he can come in on many of heatrans weaknesses.

Ani212MS.png

Scizor@ choice band
Adamant 198HP, 252Atk, 60Spd
- Bullet Punch
- U-Turn
- Superpower
- Persuit

Honestly the reason I picked this guy is because the last few days of my competitive games he just started to surface more. Now this guy is on practically every team I saw and after a few battles I completely understand why. This set is nothing special. Just a complete copy of all the others I saw. Great counter to a lot of my threats. Also I think once I use this guy a bit more I'll be able to fully understand his weaknesses, great for when I run into one....which at looking at his popularity I obviously will.

Ani380MS.png

Latias@ Life Orb
Timid 4HP, 252 SAtk, 252Spd
- Thunderbolt
-Surf
-Recover
-Dragon Pulse

Picked this guy as a good pair with Scizor. Their resists and weaknesses compliment each other. Plus I needed a surf move due to not having it on my Swampert. The thunder and dragon moves are also something I was lacking when I first started thinking of this team. Just looking at his numbers and move sets along with his resist/weakness I liked this guy. Actually using him I kinda didn't feel the love like I thought I would though.

Umbreon@ leftovers
Careful 252HP, 252SpDef, 4Atk
- Wish
-Toxic
- Payback
- Protect

Ah Umbreon. My all time favorite pokemon and probably the main reason I wanted him on my team. I figured he's a decent special wall and can come in and counter Gengar threats. Protect is great, thought it would let me lock a scarfed guy into a fighting move and be able to throw out one of my resist fighting guys. Toxic is always fun and wish could heal up some of my bulky guys who might need some health. Plus hes UU which could be a surprise to some people and maybe they wouldn't know how to deal with him.....except here was the only surprise. Surprise, he sucks!! Now to be fair he did catch a few people off guard and getting a toxic and a wish off was pretty nice. Other than that he pretty much came out and asked why he's here and ran back to the UU with his tail between his legs. This is one guy I really don't mind replacing. I'd love to keep him seeing as he is my favorite pokemon but being my favorite doesn't make him gain stats and become a OU. Ah well.

Ani094MS.png

Gengar@ Choice Scarf
Modest 252SpA, 252Spd, 4Atk
- Shadowball
- Thunderbolt
- Focus Blast
- Explosion

When I decided I wanted Umbreon on my team I figured a good way to get him out to wall would be have Gengar on my team. They throw out something that will kill him and I throw out Umbreon to counter it and get a toxic off. Plus he can bring another thunderbolt to the team and a pretty good revenge killer which I lacked. Explosion was something I wanted to try on Gengar but I never really got around to using it.

Ani485MS.png

Heatran@ leftovers
Timid 252HP, 140Spd, 18SpA, 100SpDef
- Substitute
- Torment
- Protect
- Lava Plume

Heatran seemed like a pretty good choice for this team. After seeing my spike weakness and how skarmory was one of the main guys throwing them out there I figured why not try heaty. Plus hes a pretty good counter for the oh so popular Scisor. This set really seemed like fun too. Drop the substitute, torment the water move that is usually scarfed up and watch them switch back out and get a free lava plume off. Not usually what happened but he's still a pretty darn good poke for this team I had together. Dropped him in on some of swamperts grass pals that were trying to hurt him, force a switch letting me sub and set up.

Well thats the crew for this pirate ship. After sailing with this team a fair amount and testing it out I kinda hope I don't have to completely dismantle it. I'm kinda hoping this team had enough synergy to just switch out 1 or 2 of the pokes to strengthen it up. Like I said, I'm open to any and all suggestions even if that suggestion is "sorry, its time to make this crew walk the plank."

Scizor-when running a cb set, i generally tend to max out speed simply because i see no need for hp evs.
Gengar-generally with exploding gengars, its best to run a nature more like mild or hasty, as to not power it down, also focus blast doesnt do much to blissey, paired with its shaky accuracy, there are more suitable moves, one im quite fond of is destiny bond, almost always assuring you an extra ko.

hopefully you'll put some thought into my suggestions :]

That Heatran set really would work best with Toxic Spikes. Generally, the best pokemon to use for this are Forretress and Roserade. Given that you already have Scizor (and his 4x fire weakness) I would suggest Roserade in the lead position. I would remove Umbreon for this, since you said he wasn't much use, and take Swampert out of the lead position. If you still want Wish support, you can use Latias for that.

Explosion is quite unlikely to work on Scarf Gengar. If you want to beat Blissey, use Trick. However, there is an excellent new set for Gengar that is devastating under Toxic spikes and beats Blissey quite convincingly - SubSplit Gengar.

Gengar @ Life Orb
Nature: Timid
EVs 4hp 252 SpA 252Spe
-Shadow ball
-Focus Blast
-Substitute
-Pain Split

I should add that this set, like Torment Tran, works quite well under Sandstorm, so you might want to consider using a Tyranitar somewhere on the team if you make these changes. I would suggest doing this over Scizor and changing Latias to a Scarf variant.

Sorry if I've suggested too many changes. Good luck.

EDIT - I would just like to say that I disagree with Pokerama entirely about Scizor's EVs. I think that speed is, at the very least, useless on CB Scizor, possibly even a negative. You want to be slower than other Scizor to the Superpower, and Slower than Skarmory so you can Superpower after it roosts. Speed is easily bypassed by Bullet Punch's priority. Therefore I suggest 248HP (you take less from SR so this is better than max) 252Atk 8 SpD. Up to 8 speed is acceptable too.

Hey what's going on Capt,

Swampert: Looks pefectly fine, wouldn't change anything keep it.

Scizor: Looks good, the only thing you might want to change is the EVs because you haven't explained in your description why you gave it 60 speed. So you might want to edit the EVs into 248 HP / 252 Att / 8 Spd. Scizor isn't really suppose to have EVs in speed, because it's whole point is to hit hard, and then if you need to outspeed something just use bullet punch.

Latias: Looks fine, I just would change one thing if I were you, Dragon Pulse into Draco Meteor because you're not going to be setting up Calm mind or anything so you better change it to Draco Meteor because + Life orb it'll be doing a major amount of damage to anything that'll be coming in so you won't be doing a small amount of damage with Dragon pulse.

Umbreon: I see you have a wisher, umbreon isn't the best wisher, well in OU it's usually used to baton pass if it has curses. The popular wisher in OU that's somewhat related to it and has better base stats in someway to help is Vaporeon, Has a high special attack, nice amount of HP. Also Swampert will be helping Vaporeon to take electric type moves, the only thing you would be adding which is bad is the grass weakness which is fine, because you have 4 things on your team currently that resists it so that's perfect synergy. Here's the moveset and EVs:

Vaporeon@ Leftovers
Nature: Bold
EVs: 188 HP / 252 Def / 68 Spe
Moveset:
Surf
Wish
Protect
HP Elec / Toxic / Roar

You said that you needed umbreon to help out gengar and take the ghost and phychic attacks but it doesn't matter since you have 3 things that resist phychic on your team and 2 things that resist ghost.

Gengar: Gengar is a ok Scarfer but due to the metagame now, after you're stuck on one move, for example shadow ball , Scizor on Tyranitar could come in and just pursuit you. My next choice doesn't help as much but it definitly could take a pursuit or you can outpredict a crunch from tyranitar, That doesn't matter so much anyway because you have decent things to come in after the pursuit, also my point is gengar is just too fragile you definitly need to change it to a rotom appliance due the the bulkyness, keep it scarfed.

Rotom-H @ Scarf
Nature: Timid
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Sp.att / 252 Spd
Moveset:
Thunderbolt
Shadow Ball
Trick
Overheat / HP Fighting

Regular set, the only thing you might want to use is HP Fighting to see if you see any scarftars or any Tyranitar in general that's coming.

Heatran: Your Heatran doesn't blend in with your team, you need like a team of walls to pull it off, but you only have 2 at the minute. What I recommend you change it to Is the LOTaunt set, its decent with your team because you have a huge amount of chance to beat a lot of pokemon. Also why not you only currently have one thing on your team that'll be able to start a sweep, so this set should definitly help.

Heatran@ Life Orb
Nature: Timid
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Sp.att / 252 Speed
Moveset:
Fire Blast / Flamethrower
Taunt
Earth Power
HP Grass / Explosion

Taunt is to just things that'll be setting up something or statusing you, You can outstall blissey with this set by just continue on Fire Blasting. HP Grass is for Swampert since Swampert usually comes in Tran because it counters it very well so this could pull a surprise.

Good luck, hope my analysis helped.

Changes are in bold =)

Vaporeon@ Leftovers
Nature: Bold
EVs: 188 HP / 252 Def / 68 Spe
- Surf
- Wish
- Protect
- HP Electric

Replaced my Umbreon with this guy. I really wanted him to work but this guy is obviously the better choice and thanks for pointing that out Abutorn. Still get the wish and protect which I'm fond of for some reason plus a good stab move for surf and the always fun HP. Maybe one day I'll get over the wish/protect combo and replace it all together but for now I'm enjoying this pokemon and set. Plus I don't think there are a lot of wish vapos around at the moment so I'll still get that little bit of a surprise when I switch him in and wish and/or protect.

Ani094MS.png

Gengar @ Life Orb
Nature: Timid
EVs 4hp 252 SpA 252Spe
- Shadow ball
- Focus Blast
- Substitute
- Pain Split

Well my old set was for sure old and really the reason I picked it was more or less due to the fact that it was the set to pick when I was playing heavily. Though now with the changes in the meta that set just doesn't seem to work as well. This set seems to be more fun and different than the sets I've seen.

Ani485MS.png

Heatran@ Life Orb
Nature: Timid
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Sp.att / 252 Speed
- Fire Blast / Flamethrower
- Taunt
- Earth Power
- HP Grass / Explosion

Heatran seemed like a pretty good choice for this team. After seeing my spike weakness and how skarmory was one of the main guys throwing them out there I figured why not try heaty. Plus hes a pretty good counter for the oh so popular Scisor. This new set is working out much better than the old one. It just works better over all and plus jc104 was so very right about my old set working better with sandstorm. I'll probably pick the Flamethrower over Fire Blast because of the accuracy. My luck is just always, "when I need it to hit it doesn't" type of luck and the HP Grass is such a good idea really.

Well thats the crew for this pirate ship. After sailing with this team a fair amount and testing it out I kinda hope I don't have to completely dismantle it. Well thats the changes so far. The fixes from JC104 have me thinking of a second team all together. So please don't think I just looked 'em over and shrugged it off. It was inspirational for a new team because after all, having only one team would make the game boring. The Rotom is going to be on this team when i play on shoddy and in my team IRL but at the moment I only own Pearl(after losing in top 8 at last years VGC in San Fransisco because of a stupid mistake that I'll never forget I traded it in because I never wanted to see the game that reminded me of what could have been, lol) so I can't trade him over from platinum as far as I know. Plus with the new games coming out in 2 weeks I figured it would be a waste to go buy a used copy of platinum now. Also hopefully with the changes I will have to worry about spikes a little less because this team should just work better. BUT in the unfortunate event that spikes still give me trouble what do you guys think of replacing vaporeon for starmie....though starmie is more of a special attacker than a bulky water supporter type guy. Well thanks for the input so far guys and anymore would def be appreciated!!!

Thought I should add that that Gengar set needs either Toxic Spikes or sandstorm to beat Blissey. Yeah I got a bit carried away with my rate - definitely too many changes. How about Forretress over Scizor and Scarfing Latias (since you would lack a revenge killer.) Otherwise, you could even try Specs Latias over your current set.
