World Cup: South Africa 2010 - Paul and Spain win!

love some of the excuses comming from people here.

"the ground was wet"...... honestly.

On the other hand I hope that Buffon has a shit game when we play them

I've got alot of experience playing goalkeeper, so I can tell you that what happened was simply a case of the stop being "too easy". Green did have his body behind the ball, but instead of using his body to cradle the shot he tried to catch it with his hands, causing the ball to deflect into the goal rather than back out. I had a similar play happen to me this season, where a corner kick came in and the other team got a good header in. I was in good position to make an easy stop about eye level, but I took it for granted and the ball just bounced right off my hands into the top of the net. Even the best keepers let garbage goals in sometimes, it's just how it goes. England controlled that game far better than the US did though, so we're gonna have to improve our game if we want to make it out of the group.

Yea, the ball sucks and keeps changing directions sometimes, but seriously, that one had nothing to do with the ball... Green just made a mistake, happens, happened to me before in both handball and soccer, it's just a lack of concentration coupled with bad luck and other bad circumstances like the ball being wet or whatever.

PS: I had a bet running that the game would end 1-1 due to English keepers sucking in general.... god bless you, Mr Green.

It's not to do with altitude sickness, but the density of the air at higher altitude would have effects on the ball e.g as seen from numerous free kicks so far - no one can get the ball to dip.

Last night.. I thought we played well overall, it's just a shame that such a costly error by Green cost us two points. I'm sure if it had ended 1-0 that everyone would have been happy with the England performance - Gerrard and Lampard played reasonably well together, Heskey had a decent match winning headers etc.. but one disasterous spill and the media is on our backs, scrutinizing every error, picking apart Capello's goalkeeper selection. I'm just glad we didn't lose and hope we can start to gain some momentum from the next match.

But I dont think that was the reason for Green's mistake, he just underestimated the ball and stood a bit wrong. Such things happen and look very funny.
England will still go through this group as #1 imo, so be glad he made this mistake now and not in quarters or semis when such a goal can kick you out of the world cup

Yeah Enyeama is a great keeper and currently on transfer list for 2 million Euros.

Also, Slovenia beat Algeria in 1-0 of the tournaments most anticipated matches.

God slovenia - algeria was so fucking boring. I was watching all the time, went to take a crap, came back and the only one interesting moment off the match had occured ... >>

ghana top germany? they were good but they werent THAT good

also the slovenia algeria match was awful, even worse that it looked like it was going to finish 0-0 and put england in a better position until that ridiculous goal. ugh.

depends on whether they can beat australia or not, aussies are a pretty respectable team. and yeah, id imagine serbia are going to have to pull out something special to progress now.

Half-time with an uninspired side of Australia against an unsurprisingly dominant Germany, although I can say the ref should've signed a penalty favoring Australia

is it just me or does it seem like so far there's not been a single unbiased ref yet? It just seems like a crazy set of coincidences but so far I haven't seen a referee being consistent and coherent when signing for fouls.
