First OU RMT

This is one of my first competitive teams any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Heatran
Naive @ Shuca Berry
4Atk / 252Spe / 252SAtk
Fire Blast
Earth Power
Stealth Rock
Explosion

  • I Chose Heatran to Lead because it's the most successful IMO, it is Fire/Steel which means Fire Blast can hurt common leads like Jirachi and he has many resistances as well to counter whatever most leads can dish out. Machamp is and Infernape can hurt but a quick switch to my Gyarados and that'll usually 2KO or OHKO depending if I have Stealth Rock out, but thats only special cases. Overall, confident lead.

Dragonite
Adamant @ Life Orb
252HP / 52Atk / 204Spe
Earthquake
Dragon Claw
Dragon Dance
Roost

  • Every Dragonite build now a days differ so much from each other, however, I prefer this one. Overall, the idea is to do more damage over the longer period of time he will be alive, which is why I had the 252HP Ev's which make Roost more powerful. Magnezone can counter any types Dragonite can't, simple strategy. Longevity=Strong offense, i'm confident on this build as well. However, Im wondering if it was right to set 52Atk Ev's and 204Spe. Comment.

Gyarados
Adamant @ Choice Band
64HP / 252Atk / 192Spe
Waterfall
Ice Fang
Earthquake
Stone Edge

  • Carbon copy of a Choice Band Gyarados, he can Ice Fang Salamence, Stone Edge anything Fire or Ice and STAB Waterfall any Heatran or Machamp Leads. However, again I question my EV spread on 64HP and 192Spe, wondering if I should max out Spe.

248.png

Tyranitar
Naive @ Expert Belt
48Atk / 252SAtk / 208Spe
Crunch
Ice Beam
Flamethrower
Superpower

  • With all the Steel types in my party I thought I needed a Rock to Balance the team out. Hes a monster Sweeper I chose this build for as much type coverage as I could get. Between Tyranitar and Gyarados not much can slip past the team. However, I'm considering Choice Specs.

Magnezone
Relaxed @ Light Clay
252HP / 112Atk / 144Def
Reflect
Light Screen
Thunderbolt
Explosion

  • Simple strategy, Reflect + Light Screen Switch out or Explode for the free switch in. I like this build for Magnezone and I feel its underrated, it can provide Dragonite or Tyranitar or even Heatran with heavy defense and potentially take out a Scizor or Skarmory with him through Magnet Pull, ending that story.

Forretress
Relaxed @ Leftovers
252HP / 112Atk / 144Def
Spikes
Rapid Spin
Payback
Explosion

  • Rapid Spin away the Stealth Rock if it even got setup and create spikes, I plan on switching him in after Heatran if he's successful. Explode will take out another wall/sweeper keeping my team from its potential. Massive Defense on this build, would like to know if that's advised.
  • The Ev spread on most of my sets is not maxed out like most sets, which makes me feel like its futile to even ev spe unless i max it especially it the competitive metagame. comments and help for a new gamer?

Conclusion: 3 Explodes/ 2 Good Type coverage sweepers and a Endurace Dragonite to finish off. I'm open to massive overhauls or small move changes.

I suggest Payback over Ice Fang on Gyarados because Payback is a great way to catch Starmie and Celebi off guard, OHKOing Starmie on the switch and 2HKOing Celebi if it switches in then you follow up with another.
Since your Dragonite is bulky I'd go with Dragon Claw over Outrage, that way you can do damage without prematurely locking yourself in Outrage.

good advice i'll make the dragon claw switch its worth it even if it does 60 less. but shouldn't i trade tyranitar's ice beam for payback considering he would get the stab?

personally i think magnezone isn't good for the job of a dual screener, there are much better ones around, e.g. cresselia, rotom, bronzong, etc.
also, tyranitar is not a good mixed sweeper. choice specs? really? no. if you want mixed with awesome type coverage, electivire is the way to go, also, gyarados helps you lure those essential motor drive boosts.
hope this helped (:

well i have Magnezone to also cover dragonite and it can magnet pull skarmory or scizor that could cause massive damage.

If I put an electric I'll be without rock. anyone with better mixed type coverage?

Hello and welcome to Smogon!

Anyways, one of the most important things that I want to point out about this team is that it struggles with arguably the two most dangerous threats in OU: Salamence and Gyarados. Salamence, particularly mixed variants, can easily switch in after your opponent has lost a Pokémon and pose an immediate threat to each member of your team, while Gyarados, with a combination of Waterfall, Stone Edge, and Earthquake, can easily beat each member of your team as well. Both of these threats can set up on your locked Gyarados or Forretress quite easily.

In order to handle the threats listed above, I would suggest replacing your Magnezone for a Choice Scarf Jirachi with the moves Iron Head / Fire Punch / ThunderPunch / Ice Punch. While this change does not fix your team's glaring weakness to Ground-type attacks, I feel that the trade-off is far worth it just so you don't get swept. In all honestly, I do not find Magnezone to be of much help to your team, as nothing on your team, bar Dragonite, really lures out Steel-types, and Dragonite would be the only member on your team to benefit from Dual Screens anyways.

Moving on, I also feel that Forretress doesn't really fit in with your team. Perhaps the most glaring example of what I mean is that you don't have a Ghost-type to prevent the opponent from Rapid Spinning.

Since it appears that you use Forretress for Rapid Spin if nothing else, I would suggest replacing it for Starmie, running the following moveset:

Starmie @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Care
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Thunderbolt
- Recover
- Rapid Spin

Running this set will provide your team with a solid spinner but with a lot more offense. Starmie can even beat the most common Ghost-type in OU, Rotom-A, with two Hydro Pumps. While Gyarados and Starmie both share a weakness to Electric-type attacks, and you lack an Electric resist on your team, I think you'll find that Starmie will still prove more effective than Forretress. Besides, Tyranitar can deal with most Electric-types in OU.

Speaking of Tyranitar, I'd suggest replacing your current moveset for the BaitTar set found in the analysis. This set deals far better with Special attackers and is also quite useful against stall. However, you could also replace Tyranitar (although I won't go into any more detail) if you feel that sandstorm causes your team trouble.

Anyways, good luck with your team!
