Ugh.. help me out here guys, I seriously need help with the team. I really, really like offensive teams, and I've tried to use offensive Pokemon with a bit of bulk to them as well, so they can survive at least for a little while. Part of me doesn't know the point of posting this... that part of me feels like the entire team just needs to be scrapped and redone.

248.png

Tyranitar (M) @ Expert Belt/Focus Sash
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 44 HP / 244 Atk / 120 SAtk / 100 Spd
Lonely Nature (+Atk, -Def)
- Stealth Rock
- Fire Blast
- Crunch/Pursuit
- Superpower/Stone Edge

I usually use Tyranitar as my opener unless the team preview gives me a really good reason not to. Stealth Rock is the obvious setup. Fire Blast is a great move even though this is a mostly physical Tyranitar; it blasts those Nattorei, Forretress, and Skarmory. Crunch is for a strong STAB, though I'm also considering Pursuit, as there are a lot of Pokemon who prefer not to have to go up against a Tyranitar. I've gone with Superpower over the second STAB in Stone Edge because Superpower wrecks opposing Tyranitar, as well as doing a number on the many other Steel types in this meta. The EVs were chosen to emphasize his Attack and Speed stats, while still letting his Fire Blast be viable. The Expert Belt is to squeeze out a bit more damage that Tyranitar may need for a OHKO; is this really necessary though? I haven't really run things through a calculator, so the Expet Belt is completely pointless. In which case I may go with a Focus Sash, as that may give him another chance to come in an setup a Sandstorm.

130.png

Gyarados (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 156 HP / 72 Atk / 96 Def / 184 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Bounce/Earthquake/Stone Edge
- Taunt

Decently bulky Gyarados, while not completely neglecting his Attack and Speed stats. Taunt is for things like Nattorei who love to seem to setup on Gyarados. Dragon Dance is the obvious, ups two important stats, while the investment in Defense EVs hopefully gives him the chance to make use of it. Waterfall and Bounce are just there for powerful STABs. I'm really not sure about Bounce, though. It is a STAB, and is nice against Fighting-types, which I admittedly do not have a whole lot of counters for on this team. I don't really know about the whole two-turn thing, though. I wonder if something like Earthquake or Stone Edge would be more useful. I chose Leftovers over something like Life Orb just to let Gyarados hang around a bit longer (hopefully...).

598.png

Nattorei (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 200 Def / 52 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Thunder Wave
- Power Whip

Ah, everyone's (or so it seems) new favorite Pokemon. Nattorei has great synergy with this team, as its Defense investment allows it to switch in on a ton of physical attacks. It can actually hold its own in a battle fairly well, with Leftovers and Leech Seed to keep it well, while Power Whipping away. Along with Thunder Wave, this is one of my main checks for those Swift Swimmers, if they happen to set up some rain. Spikes lets him setup nice hazards along with the Stealth Rock from Tyranitar, while Leech Seed can either heal me up or force switches, hopefully making more use of these hazards. His EVs make him a very tough defensive Pokemon while still being able to do a lot to hurt the opponent's team.

145.png

Zapdos @ Life Orb
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunderbolt
- Heat Wave
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Roost/???

I originally had more defensive oriented EVs on Zapdos, but I decided I wanted an all-out Special Attacker here. Zapdos covers a lot of Pokemon with his moveset: Thunderbolt for pesky Water-types, Heat Wave is another option for Nattorei and friends, and Hidden Power Ice lets Zapdos simultaneously go after Dragons and Ground-type Pokemon (ahem, Gliscor). Roost is there to let Zapdos heal itself so I can potentially get a lot more use out of him, as his large coverage can potentially force a lot of switches, so I can recover while a switch happens. Thouugh, with no defensive EVs to speak of, I was wondering if it would be better to use that moveset on just another attacking move, and possibly going with a Choice Specs/Scarf instead, and REALLY make him an all-out atacker.

579.png

Rankurusu (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Recover

I want to use this guy kind of as a tank to take special hits... but its physical defense is noy su great, so that needs to be shored up, too. I really needed a special wall for this team. Rankurusu also provides me with something to take on Fighting-types; however, Roobushin with Payback can completely ruin that prospect. That in and of itself makes me wonder about using this Pokemon. This was the hardest slot to fill on this team; I've also considered Gliscor, Latios, and Scizor for this spot.

530.png

Doryuuzu (M) @ Life Orb/Balloon
Trait: Sand Throw
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin

I know it's not REALLY a Sandstorm team, but this thing is SO good in the Sandstorm that Tyranitar can kick up. I like Sandstorm for the damage it can bring alongside Stealth Rock and Spikes, and why not take further advantage? I wanted a Rapid Spinner anyway, and I thought that this quy would fit nicely onto the team. A Swords Dance in a Sandstorm can easily allow Doryuuzu to demolish quite a few Pokemon on the opponent's team. OF course, if the Sandstorm was taken care of... this Pokemon can be quite mediocre.

------------

So... it would be nice to hear some thoughts and opinions on this. I'm still fairly new to all of this, still testing out lots of different things, so don't flame me too bad if there's something you consider to be obviously bad :)

I really do want to have a strong offensively focused team, and this one seems like it works sometimes, and gets decimated at others. Though I admit that it could also be partly due to me just not being all that great at playing yet, either.

Any help or advice would be greatly, greatly appreciated :)

EDIT: Damn, maybe this thing is beyond repair... 3 weaknesses to Fighting without much to counter it, 2 to Ground with the same problem... if you guys see some not TOO drastic things I can do, let me know. Otherwise I might start fresh...

Although you can battle this threat but it does a lot to your team. Life Orb Starmie. Really hard to battle. Life Orb Hydro Pump will really do a lot to any member of your team except Nattorei. Having a Scarf gives a lot of help, although, fitting a Scarf to your team looks pretty hard as I think all of them are to your liking. But I would highly suggest adding in Flygon to this team, ScarfGon. You dominate early-game by U-Turning, not only you scout their team but you do damage as well. Mid-game, you start to revenge kill some shit. And finally, late-game, you just kill, kill and kill. It's your choice on who's the one to replace. lol.

That's pretty much all, Good Luck! Happy New Year!! :D

If you actually want Rank to be a wall and not a tank you need to reconfigure him, or just use Chansey. Max HP and Def along with Calm Mind and Recover make you very bulky.

Rank@Life Orb
Magic Guard
Bold/Modest 252 HP / 252 Df / 4 SpA
Calm Mind
Recover
Psychic/Shadow Ball
Focus Blast/Shadow Ball

Bold gives you max defense. Modest gives you naturally higher SpA and a higher stat total. Your call. For attacking, Focus Blast and Shadow Ball offer I think perfect coverage, though you'll lack STAB and you won't actually counter Roopushin as well without it. Shadow Ball helps you fight other Rank and the odd Shinporaa who can be devastating. Focus Blast is for Dark Types.

Rank@Leftovers
Magic Guard
Calm 252 HP / 4 Df / 252 SpD
Substitute/Reflect/Protect
Recover
Toxic
Psychic

Now you're just being a dick with this set lol. If you want an actual dedicated special wall this set is pretty damn good in conjunction with the amazing Magic Guard ability. Toxic opponents and stall the crap out of them with Recover. Reflect keeps you and your team safe physically should you need to switch and is probably best for your fourth option.

Finally, I'm going to have to say that because Doryuzuu is so overused and it actually isn't that hard to stop it, Landlos is a far better sand sweeper. With LO and either Sand Power or Encourage you have much better initial attacking power on top of a still very great 101 base speed. Either of which can be boosted further with Sword Dance or Rock Polish. You have a much smaller list of weaknesses and can even attack mixed if you really want.

Landlos@Life Orb
Sand Strength
Naive 252 At / 4 SpA / 252 Spd
Earthquake
Stone Edge/Rock Slide
Rock Polish/Sword Dance
HP Ice

A much more effective and unpredictable sand sweeper. Landlos can run several sets effectively whereas Dory always has Balloon (it should), EQ, Rock Slide, Sword Dance and than the coverage move.

Thank you guys for the responses and tips!

@Jaroda: I'll take your advice on the Rankurusu and go 252 HP/252 Def/4 SAtk.

Also... hate to sound n00bish lol, but what is the distinction between a wall and a tank? What it makes me think is that a wall is something that is supposed to soak up attacks (pretty much pure defense), but a tank is something that can take a hit and give a good hit back.

Now for both of you, on the topic of Flygon and Landos (Randorosu? Eh Landlos sounds so much better lol...). I agree 100 with both of you, both are great Pokemon.

I just wish the team had more space... I could really use both of them. I'm strongly considering removing Doryuuzu for one of them. Doryuuzu really seems to be the only thing that can safely "go" from this team without me having to make other significant changes. It's tough... both would work great on the team (as does Doryuuzu already), but they have different strengths. And I just can't see myself removing any of the other 5 Pokemon, as they all serve important purposes to the team.

Any ideas on the Doryuuzu/Flygon/Randorosu situation guys?

I have to agree with Jaroda on the Doryuzzu replacement. Randorosu works much better as a Sand sweeper in this metagame because of the prelevence of Fightint type priority for stoping Doryuzzu. It would be great if you could use Rock Polish Randorosu along with Doryuzzu, but replacing any of the members of your team makes other threats much worse. This is coming from a avid Randorosu user, so if you need anymore info, i'll be gald to help.

Okay, thanks for the input. I already know how powerful Rock Polish Randorosu can be, I've used him before.

Also, a question about the Rankurusu. Shouldn't I put some points in Special Defense if I want ti to function as intended? Or does Calm Mind do a good enough job by itself?

No, Rankurusu needs as much Defence as possible as its not being raised with Calm Mind.

Okay. So can it function soaking up some special hits, at least after some Calm Minds? I mean, that's kind of what I want it for; I needed something that can take special attacks fairly well, and I also wanted it to be Psychic, Flying, or something to help me take on Fighting types. What I want for this slot is something that can take hits, but still fight.

Hmm. Maybe instead of Rankurusu then, it may be better go to with something like... Latias/Latios, Cresselia, Uxie?

Do you think Randorosu would even be a better idea than the Choice Scarf Flygon that was mentioned earlier?

I see a problem though. Dumping Doryuuzu gets rid of my Rapid Spinner as well. I also already have no phazing moves... I feel like this is all going to let the oppponent set up for a sweep way too easily. To remedy part of this, I'm considerinh bringing in this Latias over Rankurusu:

380.png

Latias @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Def / 116 Spd
Modest Nature (+SaAtk, -Atk)
- Psychic
- Roar/Dragon Pulse
- Calm Mind
- Recover

I would really prefer having the second attack with Dragon Pulse, but I'm starting to think I need a phazing move somewhere on this team.

Rapid Spin, however, is gone unless I keep Doryuuzu on the team. I could use something like Magic Mirror Espeon; U-Turning into it when the opponent is about to throw down a hazard is great. However, Espeon can't really do all that much else. Espeon has a very good Special Attack stat which could help me dish out a ton of damage. Problems are that Latias already gives me a Psychic on the team, rendering Espeon nearly useless for that role. Though I suppose there are many more great phazers out there to check out. Magic Mirror CAN be very difficult to time correctly, too. And finally, once Espeon is knocked out, there is nothing on this team to stop the opponent from reseting all of their hazards.

Ah, conundrums...

EDIT: Oh... I thought the forum would automatically merge this into a single post... sorry...

If you decide to use that Latias set, then definitely run 252 Spd and a Timid nature. There are way too many threats that sit along the base 100 Spd threshold that will outspeed Latias if it runs modest. A few of them are Salamence, Garchomp, Infernape, and the new fighting pokemon. Also, opt for Surf over Psychic as Dragon/Water provides great neutral coverage.

Hope this helps.
