5th Gen PRNG Help / Info - Latest: RNG Reporter 9.96.5, PPRNG 1.15.0

128 is the only safe number, as walking 130 may mean you've crossed the 128 threshold twice.

Alrighty, then I'll just walk 128 steps. But, I got 3 times a Careful Reshiram, with my Timid Syncher in front. Does that depend on the PID advancements?

would like to know if anyone here would be so kind as to give me some quick lessons for RNGing for 5th gen. I learn better by doing rather than reading. Please help...

This is how it works.

You try your best to understand the instructions and do what you can to get set up. When you get stuck, you come here with specific questions.

I apologize in advance for the obvious question, but do I need to know my SID to be able to catch/hatch Shiny Pokemon in Gen V? If so, how (without AR) can I find out what my SID is?

Yes to the first question.

The only way of knowing your SID is to have recorded the time (down to the second) you started the game from the DS menu when you first started your game save (assuming you're using a DS Lite\original and not a DSi). Soon there will be a tool that can be used to find your SID based on that.

Probably the easiest way is to trade one of your Pokemon to someone who can use an AR to check, but please make those requests in Simple Questions\Requests.

When you say "the time...you started the game from the DS menu when you first started your game save," do you mean the very first time I ever saved my game? Is it too late for me to find out what my SID is since I have progressed quite a bit into the game? I don't quite understand, sorry.

Yeah, it's too late for your current save file. You'd have to start a new one and record the time you turned the game on then.

I have trouble understanding this a bit.
I actually have recorded my time on my notebook, but it's the time I soft-reset my cart.
What exactly is the time mentioned here?
The time I started to soft-reset my game?
Or the time I started to press "New Game" from my B/W menu?

Do not soft-reset your cart for this one. It is the time you start B\W from the DS menu.

Note that this only applies for DS Lites\originals. Nobody has figured out seed encryption on the DSi yet.

If I'm lucky enough to capture a wild Shiny, would I still be able to calculate what my SID is like in Gen IV?

Btw, I think I remember reading somewhere that IDs with multiple digits have a higher chance of encountering Shinies (mine is 15551). Is there any truth to this?

No to both questions.

One question. You mentioned that new people won't be needing to hit spreads with a delay of over 1000, but doesn't turning on the C-Gear do that anyway?

Also another thing. When you're catching a Pokemon, and you have everything, and you encounter the Pokemon you're trying to RNG, does that advance the frame by 120 or something still?

128 is the only safe number, as walking 130 may mean you've crossed the 128 threshold twice.

Quite honestly, I tested this and I don't even count to 28 steps after my repel runs out anymore. I just walk around until I know I walked at least 28 more and I always get the frame I want. I've been doing legends where there are no NPCs, so I don't know if that has something to do with it or not.

Hey musicmaster, it seems like you've got RNG down in this generation, so maybe you can give me some tips for RNG'ing Zekrom in N's Castle?

For example, the guide states C-Gear callibration, best done with a stationary legendary. Essentially, I just save in front of the Zekrom, catch it, and check the IVs asap (in other words, lose to N so I can best check them).

Here's where I get lost...how will I RNG for the proper IVs? Lemme edit this post with the info I have so far...

Edit: Here we go...

MAC address: FECBC2
C-Gear seed: 3E13D3F0
Target Frame: 192

When I first tried to RNG, I believe I skipped the callibration step. I was eager to try RNG'ing Zekrom right away, so I saved in front of the computer and advanced the frame to 182 by Moving Pokemon to my party. Then, I reached 189 by running around Zekrom (and yes, I kept track of the amount of steps I took), taking note the starting frame was 3. I didn't get the IVs for frame 192, so I figure either I missed the frame, or more likely, I missed my delay. So, is there an efficient way to find out what delay I land on before I advance the frame?
Do the calibration first. Try to hit the same delay, then fight and catch Zekrom without advancing the frame at all, and then use the Seed to Time tool to see how close you were. Once you get the calibration pretty accurate, THEN try to catch it for the IVs you want. It'll still be a little bit of trial and error, unless your reflexes are perfect, but it'll be near impossible if you don't calibrate first.
If I want to advance my frame, I have to make 128 steps. With that, my PID will change 128 times as well? And does it matter if I make 128 of 130 steps?
To elaborate on this, the frame advances based on every 128 steps from when you started the game (it's the same counter used to track steps for egg hatching, I believe), so if you happen to be on, say, step 127 when you start, then going 130 steps will cross it twice.

You're probably just lucky.

Just tried to RNG for a wild captured Kibago, and realised my Max Repels didn't repel anything at all in the cave (and even outside the cave for that matter).

Is there an explanation for this ? Is this normal ?
If so, what would be the process to RNG a wild Pokemon ?

The first Pokémon in your party is low leveled.

Aahh, that's what I call an explanation ! Indeed, I have a low level Munna in order to synchronize. I didn't know it had an influence on the effectiveness of Repels, thanks a lot :).

'Gonna level up this Chewing gum 'mon xD

Your first pokemon has to be at least 1 level higher than the ones in the area in order for repel to work. You can always just put another first in your party and then switch to Munna right before you encounter.

How do advance the frame? I'm trying to get a HP Electric Vanillite and the frames are higher than 3.

From the first post:
Advancing the frame:
Moving 128 steps with Z Pokémon in your party.
- Advances the frame by Z.
Moving a Pokémon to your party from the PC Box (Withdraw/Move)
- Advances the frame by 7.
Engaging in a battle.
- Advances at approximately 120 frames per second. Requires Frame Check code to pull off.
- This is how you hit frames above 1000. You probably will not have to hit these frames.

Advancing the frame for the RNG that determines nature\PID\egg inheritence:
Walking in areas with wild Pokémon
- Advances the frame by 1 per step.
Saving
- Advances the frame by 1 per save.

Since the event has already been triggered, is there still any way to RNG it? Or do I have to RNG it before clearing the 8th gym and going to victory road?

This is about Thundurus.
