Rotom-H

[OVERVIEW]

Rotom-H's new found Fire-typing may not help it in the Overused environment where Tyranitar and Politoed lurk around every corner, but in Underused, its very threatening STAB coverage and unique set of resistances lets it shine. With access to STAB Overheat and Trick, Rotom-H is a menace offensively, and respectable bulk and eight resistances lets it switch in easily. Sadly, Rotom-H's shallow movepool lets it down; unlike most Fire-types, it doesnt have access to Flamethrower or Fire Blast, and a lack of diversity makes it very predictable. Overall, Rotom-H is one of the best glue Pokemon in Underused, easily fitting in on nearly any team.

[SET]
name: Choice
move 1: Overheat
move 2: Thunderbolt
move 3: Volt Switch / Hidden Power Grass
move 4: Trick
item: Choice Specs / Choice Scarf
nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

 • Great combination of STABs that is hard to check using resistances
 • Overheat hits like a ton of bricks, Thunderbolt for secondary STAB
 • Volt Switch helps frail but powerful attackers enter the battle undamaged
 • HP grass hits Water/Ground types and Rhyperior who can take Rotom-H's STAB attacks easily
 • Trick cripples walls like Chansey that Rotom-H would normally be unable to break
 • Seriously, Overheat will mess your shit
 • Also easy to switch in because of a bunch of resistances and immunities
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

 • Specs is highly recommended because of the sheer killing power of Overheat and Timid is recommended because of convenient speed that puts it above Heracross and Suicune.
 • Scarf is usable to better counter stuff like Zapdos and for a fast Volt Change, but scarf Overheat becomes a liability instead of a nuke.
 • Bulkier 120 HP / 252 SpA / 136 Spd Modest spread with Specs
 • Will-O-Wisp in third slot if you find yourself relying on Trick.
 • Pair it with a spinner because Stealth Rock weak and no recovery

[SET]
name: Bulky Attacker
move 1: Overheat
move 2: Thunderbolt
move 3: Will-O-Wisp
move 4: Pain Split
item: Leftovers
nature: Modest
evs: 120 HP / 252 SpA / 136 Spd

[SET COMMENTS]

 • A better choice for balanced teams; sacrifices power and speed for bulk, recovery, and status.
 • Overheat is used more cautiously than the choice set, but still hits like a ton of bricks
 • Great STAB combination that is walled by very few pokemon
 • Will-O-Wisp punishes pokemon like Flygon and Rhyperior who try to swich in on resisted attacks
 • Pain Split gives some form of recovery, but not reliable
 • EVs prioritize power, add enough speed to outspeed adamant Honchkrow, and dump the rest in bulk
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

 • Specially Defensive 252 HP / 252 SpD to exploit resistances
 • Physically Defensive 252 HP / 252 Def
 • Thunder Wave, Toxic instead of Will-O-Wisp
 • Not necessary to pair with a spinner, but helpful nonetheless
 • Pair with a Chansey counter or five
[OTHER OPTIONS]

 • Rest + Sleep Talk to deal with status and for reliable recovery. New sleep mechanics and Stealth Rock weakness really hurts it though.
 • Charge Beam to increase special attack
 • Dual Screens
 • Shadow Ball to hit Mew and Deoxys-D
[CHECKS AND COUNTERS]

 • Chansey can shrug off every attack that Rotom-H throws at it but must be wary of Trick
 • Flygon, Rhyperior, Gastrodon, Quagsire resist both STAB attacks and can significantly threaten Rotom-H
 • Not very threatening after it has used Overheat, and therefore easy to revenge
[DREAM WORLD]

 • Rotom-H does not receive a dream world ability

Snunch did you ever try a 252 HP / 252 Def Bold Rotom? I really liked it during the last meta what with Victini everywhere, but I haven't tried it in this meta. I know that Will-O-Wisp kind of remedies the lack of physical bulk, but WoW has crap accuracy and the ability to just waltz right into almost any physical attacker is kind of kick ass. I'd at least put that in AC.

Everything else looks ship shape though.

I kind of think that more balanced defensive stats would be more in order Oglemi. On one hand, Rotom-H is like the only Pokemon that comes close to a "counter" to Mamoswine, but then it's also the only Pokemon that can safely switch in on Nidoking (resisting all its moves). I think overall bulk would be better than focusing on one side?

Well when push comes to shove Victini/Mamoswine are a bigger priority to deal with than Nidoking...

Yeah I wasn't meaning that spread to be the standard, just at least put somewhere. Idk if it should just go in AC of the second set or what to do lol.

I haven't used physically defensive Rotom-H and honestly I hadn't even considered it until now. I'll put it in AC for now, and playtest it soon to see where it should end up going. In theory, I can't find a reason I would use this over Slowbro (who also walls Mamoswine, has Regenerator, Calm Mind, and more overall defensive utility) or Arcanine (Intimidate, much more surprise value, much better fire STAB, and the ability to beat Chansey).

Would Hidden Power Ice be worth it in the first set? Otherwise Flygon walls you pretty well.

Mention 252 HP/252 Def Bold in the AC of the second set.

QC Approved (2/3)

A more defensive set could be added later if it works well. As for the current sets and information...

QC Approved (3/3)

Thanks guys, I'll write this up after I do Scolipede's skeleton.

Delta I dont like HP Ice as an option because Flygon is the only relevant pokemon (no evolite Gabite) that HP Ice would be used for. Timid Specs Overheat already does upwards of 60% to 4/0 Flygon, and if you really dont like Flygon you can always use Will-O-Wisp which is useful for more than just Flygon. IMO it's not even AC worthy, but I can put it there if there's enough support.

Would Hidden Power Ice be worth it in the first set? Otherwise Flygon walls you pretty well.

Walls Overheat + TB/VS + HP Grass: Rotom-H, Flygon, random dragons, general bulky stuff (Chansey, Deoxys-D, etc)

Walls Overheat + TB/VS + HP Ice: Rotom-H, Quagsire, Gastrodon, Lanturn, general bulky stuff (Chansey, Deoxys-D, etc)

So yeah, I'd say HP Ice is a logical option on the Choice set.

EDIT: Wait what? Quagsire is UU?
