Seismitoad and Friends

Introduction:

This is my first time effort at making an actual team. This team started off as an attempt of trying Seismitoad ; as in how amazing its typing is. I've played around 200 matches in different accounts winning about 2/3 of them. But I would like to make further improvements to the team, hence why the thread exists.

My Team:

Description:
537.gif

Seismitoad @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 200 HP / 252 Def / 56 Sp.Def
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spe)
~Stealth Rock
~Scald
~Earthquake
~Knock Off

Ah Seismitoad, such a under-rated Pokemon. It is one of the best Stealth rockers due to its typing to scare off other leads. Water and Electric are amazing immunity to have. Earthquake is over Earthpower to OHKO Jynx after Rocks. (Unless it is physically defensive -.-) He also serves a check to the Volt-Turn teams that rely on momentum to work.
042.gif

Golbat @ Eviolite
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 248 HP / 228 Def / 32 Spe
Impish Nature (+Def, - Sp.Atk )
~ Brave Bird
~ Taunt
~ Roost
~ Toxic

Oh Golbat, y u so good? Golbat has an amazing typing and speed with its Eviolite equipped Defense. Several Times he uses Toxic, tanks an Ice/Rock hit and then Roosts off. He is my Stall breaking; Toxic Stalling hero. He is my go to answer to Grass, Bug, Ground and Fighting types that lurk in NU. I am willing to try Mandibuzz but that would hinder my team balance.

476.gif

Probopass @ Leftovers
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Sp.Def / 56 Sp. Atk
Calm Nature (+Sp. Def, -Atk)
~ Volt Switch
~ Power Gem
~ Protect
~ Thunder Wave/ Toxic / Earth Power

A good defensive Pokemon should have some sort of reliable recovery. But my bro magnet need no recovery virtue of its typing. His is my special wall who doesn't sacrifice momentum for bulk (unlike the pink blobs). He is also my Flying/Normal Spam check despite being specially defensive. Protect is one of the biggest surprise of this set. It might look like a waste of a moveslot but it lets me:
  • Get back to sturdy
  • Scout for Choiced Primape/Sawk
  • Toxic Stall a bit
The only problem is the last slot. Thunder Wave lets me slow down opponents on the switch and Volt Switch out. Toxic lets me win against Calm mind Musharna and Sub Bulk Up Braviary. Earth Power gets some good coverage with Power Gem. Any Suggestions?

057.gif

Primape @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Vital Spirit
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Nature : Jolly (+Spe, -Sp.Atk )

~Close Combat
~Ice Punch
~Stone Edge
~U-turn

A balanced team without a Scarfer/Revenge Killer? Wut? Since Fighting is one my favourite and offensive typing, Primape was my no.1 choice. He provides a Volt-Turn combo with Probopass giving me some momentum. I've tried Sawk and Gurdurr but they lost me a lot of momentum. I just wish Primape hit a bit harder.

435.gif

Skuntank @ Black Sludge
Trait : Aftermath
EVs: 252 Atk / 204 Sp.Def / 52 Spe
Nature : Adamant (+Atk, -Sp.Atk)

~ Sucker Punch
~ Pursuit
~ Poison Jab
~ Taunt

"Oh so you wanna play mind games with me? Sure." It's not a quote from Joker. It has good synergy with Golbat and Primape. Skuntank is my Gardevoir/Haunter/Golurk/Jynx/ Missy check unless it's status inflicted. The Speed EVs is to.....(yes I'm a speed creep) outspeed the utility Missy and taunt it. He has a power sucker punch to keep fast/frail sweepers at check. He is also my T-Spikes absorber that would ruin my next member.

272.gif

Ludicolo @ Life Orb
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Sp.Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Nature: Modest (+Sp.Atk, -Atk)
~ Rain Dance / Substitute?
~ Hydro Pump
~ Giga Drain
~ Ice Beam

Hydro Pump under the rain you ask? It hits like a truck. Ludicolo is my favourite pokemon and of course a set up sweeper/ late game cleaner. It can come in on things like Wartortle/ Alomolola/ Seismitoad etc and proceed his ritual from there. I've been sick of it getting Toxic/ Thunder wave'd so I was thinking of replacing Rain Dance with Substitute.

Retired members:
282.gif

She was my special wall/Cleric/Wish Passer but unfortunately she is physically frail and often gets annihilated by Skuntank.
463.gif

Lickilicky was my cleric/Special Wall/ Wish passer like Gardevoir. But he turned out to be a bait for Misdreavus/ Haunter and Golurk and often lost momentum.

533.gif

It has been about a month I started playing competitive pokemon/ NU and boy I haven't been impressed more by this thing's bulk. He just screams "Come at me bro". I tried him as a fighting type but two Set up sweepers seemed redundant. If anyone hasn't tried him, I highly recommend to people to give it a shot. He has been replaced by Scarfed Primape.

375.gif

He was my Dual Screener/ Special wall but lack of recovery kinda turned me off.

Threats:

NU is such a huge tier so finding a check for all of them is daunting. But anyways so of the threats to my team are -

604.gif

I wonder why this thing is NU? E-belt Eelektross has an amazing wall breaking capabilities. Giga Drain for Seismitoad, T-bolt for Golbat, SuperPower for Probopass. What? I try to toxic stall this thing as soon a s possible. Thankfully is it slow so I can kill it with Ludicolo/ Primape.

Status: My team despises status. I can remedy that with the Dual taunt (Golbat/ Skuntank)

503.gif

This thing is so unpredictable it's not even funny. Physical variants can be dealt with Seismitoad byt the mixed is a pain to deal with due to Megahorn / Ice Beam / Grass Knot etc.

The Simi Monkeys are pain to deal with but I can play around with them.

Since I'm new to competitive battling, any suggestions are highly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Volcaronaaa, nice team. Tbh, one of the better ones I've seen as of late :p.

First off, Toxic arguably has the most utility on Probopass. It works with Protect and the ability to deal with Mushy and SubBU Braviary is a really big deal. Also just a minor nitpick, but you're missing 4 SAtk EVs; it should be 252 HP / 56 SAtk / 200 SDef.

Next, I have two suggestions that could help to patch up your weaknesses. The first is to change your Ludicolo to the Specially Defensive set, as it serves as an excellent check to most Eelektross and Samurott that don't carry Megahorn. You do lose your hard hitter though, so keep that in mind. If that bothers you though you could also test Regice over Ludicolo, who can pivot in against Eel or Samurott while also providing fair offensive presence. Also, RestTalk gives your team a semi-reliable status absorber.

Good luck.

Ludicolo @ Leftovers
Trait: Rain Dish
EVs: 248 HP / 204 SDef / 56 Spd
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Giga Drain
- Synthesis
- Leech Seed

- OR -

Regice @ Leftovers
Trait: Clear Body
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SAtk / 8 Spd
Modest Nature
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Thanks Dat Blast, I'll try Regice out. The problem will be opposing Gurrdurr setting up on Propopass/Regice/Skuntank as well another stealth rock weakness. Also I love Ludicolo's versatality so I'm bit hesitant to replace it.

Status is a pretty big problem for this team -- a couple scald burns here and there, throw in a thunder wave from musharna, a toxic from alomomola here, and the team is going to fall apart. Status inflicting moves are very common in NU, and the team seems to suffer a bit from status because of its balanced nature.

A quick fix to the status problem / lack of cleric would be to use Misdreavus over Golbat. Misdreavus is immune to Fighting- and Ground-type attacks, and takes Ice/Rock hits even better than Golbat due to its typing. It doubles as a backup to switching into Normal-types, and can run Heal Bell. Also, Misdreavus isn't Stealth Rock weak which is always nice considering how hazard heavy NU is. You're essentially switching into the same Fighting-types with less risk: Sawk, Primeape, and Gurdurr can be dealt with by Misdreavus through Shadow Ball and / or burning via WoW.

Apart from that, definitely run Toxic on Probopass because CM Mushy would have a field day otherwise. I'd also suggest running Specially defensive Ludi to deal with Eel better as Dat Blast has already suggested. That helps against specially based Samurott, while Seismitoad helps you against physical ones.

Misdreavus@Eviolite
Bold 248 hp / 220 def / 40 spe
Shadow Ball/WoW/Pain Split/Heal Bell

Good luck with the team, hope I helped.
