It's time for that gimickiest of gimmicks, Gravity! Considering my last Smogon post was a sweeper Swampert, this is actually a good improvement!
A little known fact about Gravity: It lowers evasion by 3/5, so all moves are a great deal more accurate. I abuse the no ground immunity a bit with this team, but mostly this team is centered on that critical accuracy buff.
Without further wait, here's my team:
Pimpboy3Billion (Metagross) @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Gravity
- DynamicPunch
- Meteor Mash
This guy is my lead typically, on account of his bulk and ability to destroy skarmory and ferrothorn once gravity is up. Dynamic Punch gives you some nice power as well as some free turn s due to confusion. However, it still has about 80% accuracy, so be careful using it even with Gravity up. Both Earthquake and Meteor Mash are much more reliable in Gravity. I chose to forgo a psychic STAB because there aren't any that abuse Gravity as well as Dynamic Punch, Earthquake, or Meteor Mash.
Marlon Brando (Blissey) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 Def / 252 HP / 252 SDef
Bold Nature
- Sing
- Gravity
- Protect
- Wish
I like to have both a special and physical wall, and there is nothing that can wall special attackers like Blissey in OU. Sing rides well the fine line of the sleep clause, and gives other Pokemon on my team setup opportunity. Blissey is my second Graviteer, of which you should have 2-4. Wish is for healing others who get worn down if hazards aren't removed, and protect ensures it lives to heal itself with Wish.
SpecialFriend (Landorus-Therian) (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Rock Polish
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Swords Dance
He's my little buddy, and a terrifying sweeper with just one turn of setup, and an almost impossible to wall one with 2 or more. An earthquake user is a must on Gravity teams, and he fulfills his role quite well. Focus Sash is for setup or for OKHOing his frailer counters, like Infernape or Toxicroak with Ice Punch. Once this guy gets set up it's gg, so typically I try to create an opening. If this team has a goal, it's probably getting Landy all boosted up and ready to sweep.
SANTANS (Victini) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Timid Nature
- Thunder
- Focus Blast
- Inferno
- Psychic
Victini is one of the best Pokemon to abuse Gravity, and it does so very well. He is my go-to revenge killer, as base 100 speed Scarfed out-speeds pretty much everything(that isn't Scarfed). Many pokemon who could otherwise rip apart my team get countered by him. Sadly, that Stealth Rock weakness does make it hard to play the switching game, so I'm open to suggestions. Thunder hits like a 100% accurate truck, Focus blast hits OHKOs some otherwise troublesome pokemon, and Psychic is mostly there for STAB. Inferno is where Vintini gets it's nickname from, as a around 92% accurate 100 base power STAB move that ALWAYS BURNS is a bitch to face. Literally the only Pokemon I can think of that don't fear this set are Blissey and Heatran, probably Chandelure.
GoBigCircleGo (Forretress) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Toxic
- Protect
- Zap Cannon/Earthquake
My spinner/status giver, he's only on the team because of how bad hazards hurt this team. His secondary role is spreading despair/toxic to people and staying alive for as long as possible to rack up the toxic damage and force a switch. Also functions as a secondary physical wall, forcing switches if Metagross is dead.
KawaiiDesu (Kyurem-Black) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Teravolt
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 SAtk
Naive Nature
- Blizzard
- Outrage
- Fusion Bolt
- Earth Power
Finally, Kyurem-Black, all scarfed up. A late game sweeper and less effective revenge killer than Victini, he doesn't really make much use of Gravity, and I mostly chose him for his raw power and ability to finish off a close game with Outrage. The incorporation of special moves is mainly to make walling him a much harder job, and Earth Power can hit Steel types who laugh off a Fusion Bolt pretty hard.
Some alternate pokemon:
Porygon2/possibly Z: Porygon2 runs the Defensive Duck set, except Blizzard and Thunder replacing Ice Beam and Thunderbolt, with his last moveslot belonging to Gravity. He is typically EV-invested into special bulk, so beware using him with Blissey, as that's two special walls weak to Fighting-Type moves. Consider using a bulky Psychic, ghost or flying type to soak up close combat from their inevitable Lucario/Terrakion switch-in.
Starmie: Following Chesnaught''s suggestion, Starmie is a good pointy star thing to run using Hydro Pump, Thunder, Gravity, and rapid spin to replace Forretress.
Please post your suggestions for better synergy/evil ways to abuse Gravity.
