PikamasterCubed's Louisville Warstory Spectacular! (GS Tourney)

Well, I'm not that well known, here, but I have a warstory...

After I learned about a week ago about the Gamestop Tournament, I'd been training my Ubers. I had almost perfected a plan for Doubles, and had high expectations of winning. (For those of you who have been on PBR's Double Battle WiFi Match-Ups, if you fought a Kyogre Girl with an assload of Ubers named Aubra, that was my planned team.)

So my brother (he didn't compete) and I arrive about a half-hour before the tournament began. I was the second to sign up, after this really big (and I mean tall) kid who apparently haddn't reached the "Voice Deepens" part of puberty yet.

About 15min later, the guy who would be holding the remote until the "Endgame" section gave his first ultimatum: "No Legends."

And I was all "Crap!"

His second was "Single Battles."

And I was "I can work with this."

So, I quickly pulled together my crack-squad of specially trained, specailly bred Pokemon to fight in the tournament.

...however, the last two members of my regular team, Pikachu and Manaphy, weren't gonna join them this time. Manaphy because it was banned, and Pikachu because I knew I needed something with more... Oomph.

I am especially proud of Blastoise...

In any case, before the tournament, I trade an extra Manaphy I had for a Garchomp (for Pokedex reasons, O'course), I bought a Wii for my Dorm Room at college, and then we got underway. I was the second match in the first round, and then first in every round I was in since.

For recap, here are the rules.

Lv.50 All
4 Pokemon per team
Single Battles
No Legendary Pokemon

Round 1: Vs Rock Team!
I don't remember this one too well. What I do remember, is that my lead, Wukong, was able to end the battle in four rounds with Close Combat. Mostly because all of his Pokemon were weak to Close Combat.

Between rounds, I befriended some guys who knew what they were talking about. EV Trainers from GameFAQs, IIRC. (I am suspicous that BlackMage_Kevin may be one of the people I met, but haven't got any real leads). He and his pal were also in the tournament, but had some time restrictions. Thankfully, they got to see the final.

After a hella-long wait, I go to my second match.

Round 2: VS First Sign-Up
After seeing Wukong OHKO every Pokemon that the last guy had, my opponent was pretty intimidated. He lead with something that I had to U-Turn out from (Gengar?), but whatever he did, I brought out my Salamence and used Draco Meteor on it for the OHKO. He brings his Salamence out next, and IT gets OHKO'd by my second Meteor. His third is Gardevoir, so I pulled Salamence out and sent in Claydol to absorb the incoming Psychic, which it did nicely. I used Earth Power, and got a CH, but it didn't do enough to get me the KO (or even in KO Range of Earth Power). Meanwhile, Claydol ate an unexpected Energy Ball, and left it with enough to shrug off one more before going down. So of course I Explode, taking them both down. Infernape destorys whatever his last Pokemon was.

We shake and say "good game" and all, but then he runs off down the road, and seems kinda down. Oh, well.

This round went alot faster. Kevin(?) used his DD-Tar to rip someone apart, and his friend used a Blast Burn Charizard. More on them later, though.

My next round was special. This (young) girl was the only girl in the tournament, and she won both of her matches by rather dumb luck and stupid opponents. She was also the little sister of the guy who was organizing the event.

Round 3: VS the Little Girl
Wukong Close Combats through her first two Pokemon (Infernapeand Empoleon, I believe), and then I pull out away from Mantine, since I'm Banded. In comes Dinnerco, who uses its Thunderbolt to send that fishy to an early, CH'd grave. Her last Pokemon is Roserade. I manage to Burn it with WoW, and then Pain Split for my HP back. T-Bolt was near worthless, and she ended up KO'ing with Sludge Bomb. No matter, Infernape used the first Flare Blitz of the entire tournament for the KO.

I should mention at this point that I saw LOTS of Infernape and Weavile. Those, Salamence, and possibly T-Tar would be the most overplayed Pokemon of the tournament.

Anyway, since his little sister lost, the guy who was running it and his little sister left. My brother took command of the Wii Remote (even though he didn't work there, either).

This is the "Endgame."

My opponents were three people who REALLY knew what they were doing. EV Training was known to these guys, as well as some minor IV Breeding. Movesets were mostly great, as well.

Time for the Semi-final.

Semifinal Round: VS Kevin!
Wukong, what I always lead with, leads again, meeting his Skarmory (he apparently panicked and thought that Skarm's high defence would last against whatever I put out there). Infernape OHKO's with Flare Blitz and loses about 1/3 its HP. In comes Kitty-Kat, his Espeon. I, having seen the earlier matches, knew that it was Focus Sash'd, but I Flare Blitz'd anyway, at least reducing his HP. Infernape takes a Psychic for the team and goes down. In comes Blastoise. Now, Blastoise was origionally raised for the Battle Frontier on Pokemon Emerald. Which is why it was a Sleep Talker. Blastoise easily takes a Grass Knot and finished off Espeon with Surf. Not wanting to send out his trump card against its weakness, he chooses Weavile (a Shining Weavile, I might add.) Weavile uses Night Slash (and is Choice Scarf'd), and Blastoise... Rests. This begins a long chain of Resting and Sleep Talking where I eventually KO his Weavile with Ice Beam after about 3 or 4 Rests. In comes HIS trump card, a Scarf'd Eruption Typhlosion. Blastoise survives a full power Eruption with 1 measly HP, and procedes to Rest. He choses Rest each turn with Sleep Talk, and is KO'd by three more eruptions that come from Typhlosion. I bring in Weezing to try to take another hit, and he's one-shotted by Eruption, as well. So, in comes A2, my Salamence. Fortuneatly for me, he had used up Eruption's PP, and was forced to Struggle as I finished him off with Hydro Pump.

So, here I was. I was really jittery, and my next opponent was special, I feared. Let's see if I can pull off one more miracle!

Final Round! Pikamaster Cubed VS Kevin's Friend! Fate of the match is in a 'Cherish Ball'!

I lead, as always, with Wukong, my Infernape. He leads with Salamence, intimidating me. I U-Turn outta there, and bring out Weezing (knowing before hand that his Salamence is a Physical Style). His EQ misses my Levitator. I take little damage from Fire Fang, and in return I Burn his 'mence with WoW. A burned Mence is a sad Mence. He pulls out Mence for Gengar into my Thunderbolt. I manage to burn it, too, but I'm KO'd by his Shadow Ball. Metagross comes in, thirsting for its chance at a glorious battle. Titan LOLs at his Psychic, even with a crit on his side, and Agilities up. Gengar then eats a CH Meteor Mash, and dies. In comes Heracross.

I instantly become suspicous of the Cherish Ball that it was caught in. While my brother explains that the Cherish Ball can't be obtained ingame, I OHKO 'Cross with a CH Meteor Mash. Even Lady Luck was on my side!

His last Pokemon comes out. It's Shining Charizard. Metagross isn't fast enough with Agility because of the Choice Scarf, and is KO'd.

Wukong comes in to avenge his fallen ally. One Stone Edge on the recharge turn slices that black Charizard to ribbons.

His burned Salamence hobbles back in, and is subsequently KO'd by Stone Edge.

That's right, readers. I won.

There were some "Good Games" and all that passed around, and I approached the counter for my prize..

A copy of PBR!? But I wanted the shirt!

My brother insisted that I keep PBR for use with the Wii I bought earlier, so I could have two games for my Dorm Room, and I did.

I hoped you enjoyed reading my story.

The sad thing is that we already HAD a copy of PBR. Although it would be helpful while I'm away at College.

Meh, at least I have a Wii of my own to play with.

Man, I wish I had that much fun. We had people using whole teams that were weak to one type, or people using Pachirisu, or legendaries with no EVs...

A cherish ball, though? I'd have shamed the ass after beating him by calling him on his hacked items.

Oh, there were two Pachirisu's, and some teams of stuff that wasn't even fully evovled. I think it was lucky for me to have Ubers been banned: if someone had brought out Scarf Kyogre, I'd have probably lost.

But I did have a blast. My only regret is not being able to trade more Pokemon.
