So basically Pikachu but with Flying Press? I am disappoint.

While I understand the disappointment, do you notice just how her attack animations can be laggy/slow? If you are building a fast paced fighting guild, from my observations, most slow attacking characters don't reach such a high competitive tier. Casually its still great, not in hardcore competitive however.

From the way you interpreted "Pikachu but with flying press", after watching the trailer again, I disagree with that. Rather, it's a Hasty Generalization on your part as to how I see it. Just for a small example, let's see her basic light attacks vs regular Pikachu's light attacks. Pika Libre has like 2-4 combos that don't respond fast. Regular Chu, on the other hand, has 5-6 combos with very fast attack animation but deals little to mediocre damage. The fighting of the two differs quite a lot. I mean, regular pikachu does not use electroweb at all from what's shown so far. Pika Libre has it on her however, and it causes a stat down if I recall the trailer.

So Pikachu Libre is to Pikachu in Pokken as Ganondorf is to Captain Falcon in Super Smash Bros.?

So Pikachu Libre is to Pikachu in Pokken as Ganondorf is to Captain Falcon in Super Smash Bros.?
In Super Smash Bros. there are no actual clones except in Super Smash Bros. 64, where Luigi was a straight up clone of Mario I believe. The difference is that while Ganondorf and Captain Falcon have similar flavour in terms of their moves they have different properties and other moves, such as their side special, are completely different besides animation. As far as I can tell Pikachu Libre is literally Pikachu with Flying Press, all the other moves being completely identical, so they are direct clones.

Still, if Pikachu-Libre is just a complete clone aside from Flying Press, then I doubt even more that this is going to be the last revealed fighter. Would be kind of underwhelming; I think we could expect an announcement somewhere around Christmas.

Smash actually had quite a lot of complete clones in its history. Smash 64 had Luigi, Melee had Falco, Ganondorf, Roy, Dr. Mario, Pichu and Young Link, and Smash 4 has Dr. Mario, Lucina and Dark Pit. However, clones from Melee differentiated themself in the transition to Brawl or Smash 4, or in the case of Pichu they just got cut.

This is a Pokken Tournament thread, not a SSB thread, so I don't really want a reply to this, JS. Smash 64 had Luigi and Melee had a couple I guess, but Smash 4 has none. At the very least Dr. Mario plays nothing like Mario (I secondary doc), while Dark Pit and Lucina have enough changes for them to be played differently, thus aren't completely clones.

SO moving this topic back on track, on a developer level how much work would they have needed to put into Pikachu Libre? If its as everyone said just Pikachu except slightly slower, stronger, and some different moves (and a modified texture) how much would that take away from a completely new character? Like would they have kicked out a character because Pikachu Libre took away so much time they couldn't do them or could Pikachu Libre be done as a side project thus not interfere with the creation of another character? I know I'm opening a can of worms here, but with Smash since it has so many characters I never really saw characters like Dr. Mario or Dark Pit taking a slot away from another character, they were sort of added in because they would be easy and quick to do. Of course I can say this since Smash Bros. has a large cast of characters already with more having been added by DLC. Pokken though so far has a smaller pool of characters so a "clone", modified it may be, would stand out more. So whether Pikachu Libre took a slot of another character or was just a thrown in I think would determine whether people should be that scrutinizing it. And at the very least it's not Pink Gold Peach (who is also a thrown in character but a rather very lazy one. Like if you need another female character how about a surprise appearance from Pauline).

Well in Smash at least; iirc in Melee Sakurai had the choice of making one completely new character or six clones. He went with Pichu, Roy, Falco, Ganondorf, Young Link and Dr. Mario. So you could probably say that in comparison to an original character a clone would take 1/6 development time but this would of course depend upon the complexity of the game and the differences. Like any other character though it'd have to go through testing and quality control so even just taking say Machamp and doing nothing to it except give it some sort of elaborate mask, change nothing else about it and call it a day would still require some amount of time before it can be accepted; so it's not some sort of "yeah do this as a side job and we'll put it in immediately". Then there's also other aspects of Pikachu-Libre to be considered such as different sound effects (from flying press more than anything), and other animations (flying press, different intro animation etc.) I don't think we can accurately say exactly how much development time something would take yet without knowing the specifics and complexities of the game as well as not having any statements from the developers, but seeing how unique every other character is so far Pikachu-Libre certainly seems like it would take much, much less development time. You also have to consider tho that this is a smaller team compared to Smash's so clones could take even more development time here.

Now that I look at the various Youtube comments and reviews, I am curious as to how much would Pokken's introduction had differ if they showed the start of fights in traditional 2D format before the 3D Arena instead of introducing Pokken starting in the Arena Phase then to Duel Phase?
I'm certain that some of you and others see this game more akin to the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Games instead of Street Fighter or Tekken 2D platform system. Even though it will be played on both formats, a part of me thinks that if Pokken Tournament battles begin its gameplay introduction in Duel Phase instead of Arena-like Phase, the reactions might had ended up being the same since most hardcore Traditional Fighting Gaming Fans find this one as an oddity like the Super Smash Btos Series as a Brawler game instead of a Fighting game.

What would be interesting is if the Wii U Pokken will give players the option to start the battle in either Duel Phase (2D platform) or Arena-like Phase without completely separating the two.

So do you think that the Wii U Pokken will give players the option whether to play the start of the game:

a. Start in Duel Phase, then Arena Phase, and back to Duel, etc. (an alternative format)
b. Start in Arena Phase, then Duel Phase, and back to Arena, etc. (the current gameplay stage format in Japanese Arcades)

A times, a part of me thinks that not a lot think as to which Pokémon can play a support role. But here are a few ideas:

Batch D:
Victini - Charges the Enemy with V-Create where the wielder is facing. Not effective on Arena Phase, but super effective on Duel Phase.
Sigilyph - Transfers inflicted status downs to the opposing Pokémon. Something to counter Emolga's Shock Wave. Blockable too.

Batch E:
Bastiodon - returns half the damage the enemy pokemon inflicted to the user for the last 2 seconds using Metal Burst. Think of this as a weak-counter damage return. Let's say that I'm playing as Suicune that took 200 damage from Charizard. I summon Bastiodon, and he inflicts 100 damage to Charizard. It can be blocked too since it has to be slow since this support is slow.
Lileep - increases user's defense through stockpile by 2 stages for 10 seconds.

Ninetales and Mismagius confirmed for Support Pokémon... at least from October 15th to November 3rd at the arcades. Hopefully it'll carry through to the Wii U version (even though we don't know what they do yet).

So fully evolved Pokemon cam be support Pokemon.
Rather unexpected.

So looks like Mewtwo is in the game as a secret boss called "Dark Mewtwo". It's a secret boss you unlock by having 3 matches and losing in two of them. The Dark Mewtwo is a black Mewtwo with a yellowish-orange crystal growing out of its shoulder who covers the filed with towering twirling crystal structures before Mega Evolving into (Dark) Mega Mewtwo X.

The game's sound track and ingame text described it as a "black Pokemon". (kuroi Pokemon)
She's owned by a female trainer (as commented by the in game character), sounds badass and mysterious.

I'm intrigued. I totally don't know what it is.

Fucking everything I wanted =D
Also this is like almost 100% coincidence but it's kinda cool how Pokken has Mega Mewtwo X and Smash has Mega Mewtwo Y

Meanwhile pretty much all Mega Charizards we see are Mega Charizard X. The only MCY we've seen is the mascot for the Mega Tokyo Pokemon Center. But the Mega Evolution anime special, Smash, and Pokken keep on using MCX.

Finally, the long-awaited return of Shadow Pokémon
Jokes aside I'm now even more confused on whether or not it'll be playable lol. I mean I wouldn't mind it remaining an ultra-powerful boss but I could totally see a powered-down, non-shadow Mewtwo being unlocked after you beat this or something.
