Gen VII: Pokémon Sun and Moon (New info Post #5834)

To be clear, it would be interesting to fuse with other Pogeys. If they did it with human characters, I'd have to think about ignoring the franchise after ORAS. But, that's neither here nor there at this point.

Hmm, the crystals in the Sun & Moon logo are colored like the opposite version. So if these crystals are in the games I think they may have a day & night mechanic to them. For some reason, maybe due to how simple they look, I don't think they'll be related to a battling mechanic. They look like McGuffins you'd need to collect throughout the story in order to do story stuff.

There's one thing that's inevitable for me in the storyline of these games - they'll almost certainly feature a solar eclipse of some sort. It seems so logical.

Feeding of that idea you could expect to see seasons return too as well as other themes like lunar exploration (& expansion).

Given the ORAS storyline this would be the natural progression.

And/or a solar eclipse, which actually would make more sense by itself than just a lunar eclipse as a solar eclipse just involves the Sun and the Moon as it is when the Moon blocks out the Sun. A lunar eclipse is the Earth standing inbetween the Sun and the Moon.

Couple thoughts.

-Not sure if this has been suggested, but what if with the Sun and Moon theme, respective legendaries would either have the Pokémon world be plunged into eternal daylight or eternal darkness? Unless the player stops whatever team or teams antagonizing. Which would or could lead to cosmic journeys.

-Blastoise and Machamp in the photos doing things got me thinking; Assuming they aren't minor things along the lines of Rhyhorn and Mamoswine from XY, what if they are hints of having "jobs" of sorts in the games? Specific to the region and its themes, of course.

Sun Version can have a solar eclipse (sun being blocked).
Moon Version can have a lunar eclipse (moon being blocked).
It can be the "sign of doom" in the game, like the extremely harsh sunlight and heavy rain in the Hoenn games.

I think I've heard that people in GF like Mega Man, and that Ledyba was partly inspired by Mega Man.
Can't remember where though.

Oh, close but not quite. ;)
It's not that GF like Mega Man (like I'm sure some do, but that's not the point), but one of the few non-Pokemon games that GF made was called "Pulseman" which has some references in the Pokemon series, one is that Ledian (not Ledyba) looks similar to the titular character. Other references to that game include but not limited to:

1. Most famously the Pikachu family's signature move, Volt Tackle, is Pulseman's signature attack.
2. Remoraid resembles an enemy from the game which is a gun-fish hybrid.
3. Team Galactic is a reference to the main villain group in Pulseman, the Galaxy Gang.
4. Like Ledian, Rotom also has similarities to the titular character, not only in appearance but also being electric powered.

I'm a little late to the party here, but the "these games will be the last ever" rumour has been around for way, way earlier than XY and ORAS. How long? Try Crystal. I heard it about Ruby/Sapphire, I heard it about Emerald, people were strangely insistent about it with BW1, and I guess there will always be some idiot trying to start rumours about it for every new game. And some idiots will keep believing it too.

Pokémon is a cash cow of epic proportions. The brand value alone would be many billions of dollars. Believing that they will put down the franchise because of changing times is frankly completely moronic. It's hard to kill such a money-making franchise. Look at Sonic the Hedgehog, for instance. Crappy game after crappy game for many years, yet they keep making a profit. Terrible quality, poor reputation, still prints money. And I daresay Pokémon still is a bigger success than Sonic ever was. SuMo will not be the last games either. Whatever comes after SuMo won't be the last games. Even if a sharp decline starts today, I still think Pokémon would have some six or seven generations left. They'll probably be migrating to a mobile platform eventually, though.

I could see fusions becoming a thing. Not that I have an opinion regarding that yet.

But, arguably, forme changes were testing grounds for Megas. One critter functions a certain way. Then, attach an item or whatnot, and you essentially have a new creature. Fusions started with Kyurem and the splicers. Mayhaps that was a test, too?

I just love that a new battle mechanic is added every generation. It is one of my favorite aspects of the franchise. How the celestial bodies/the curious crystals/weird comet Pokéball might tie into the new mechanic intrigues me.
I hope there will be a 100 vs 100 pokemon format in the future...

As for the argument that pokemon will ever end, well, it won't. Sometime in the 3000s, Bender and Fry will play a version of pokemon...

I did say "And/or", to be fair.
But I thought we were already doing that?

You could argue that Battle Network ripped off the paired version idea from Pokémon.

I hope they make a 100 vs 100 format that would be amazing...

It took me 6 years to understand Doubles (me getting Platinum in 2009 to serious attempts to learn VGC this past summer), I still get confused with Triples, and that would turn the series into a freaking RTS! So unless we get a super hardcore hybrid of Warhammer 30k and Conquest (which I would play the HELL out of), that's something we will never see.

I hope I get credit for being the first one to suggest that eclipses could be a thing...

Seriously, how is Zygarde going to fit in here? Were it's forms invented just for the anime's sake?

Triples still confuses me a lot, despite how I never had any problems with Doubles.
But I personally feel that if your whole team is on the field at once, it's kinda funny.
Me too...

Actually, thinking about it, pokemon would be amazing if it was a table top board game like Warhammer...

Moving back on topic now...

Since when does any gaming franchise have conceptual rights to the Sun and the Moon? I'd only tout Pokémon ripping those games off if SM's plot line, characters, or game play elements played off their materials, but not when the only thing we know about them is that we have a woodpecker pokémon, and an under-the-sea themed building face.

I'm pretty sure Gru has the rights to the moon, as for the Sun, I'm not sure...

Also it might be possible sun and moon are set in Kalos or a related area as we already have Louis the 15th's palace garden and Louis thr 15th was "the sun king"

Pokemon Sun and Moon will NOT be distributed in China.

Despite the inclusion of Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, Nintendo has no plans of distributing the games in China.
The Chinese version is merely for Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia.

I suppose it's because China's laws are still too fiddly for Nintendo to handle.

New legal threat in Anything Goes: Gen 1 ported Fissure Machoke @ Eviolite - use Ability Capsule to change ability to No Guard -> Win. Also all Eevees get Reflect now and Blissey can run a competent CM set with Tri-Attack. There's a few other random things (mostly revolving around Gen 1 Reflect's distribution). If Submission gets a buff it might be worthwhile but otherwise Brick Break or Drain Punch is better.

I do have much hype for this. The fact Magearna wasn't in ORAS' data but Volcanion was - as well as the Pokebank eligibility for VC Pokemon - leads me to believe this is going to be a new Gen rather than a third take on Gen 6.
