Project G7 PU Laddering Achievements (PULA)

Hey! Well done!
For achievements which require a specific thing to happen (e.g. "Bad choice") please can you specify which turn it happened on? This makes it a lot quicker and easier for me to check. Also, you listed a monofighting replay next to the monoflying achievement's name. I've given you monofighting, but I thought I'd draw your attention to that in case you had also done monoflying and had a replay somewhere but missed it out.

How I managed to get Top 150 on the ladder using only these gimmicky teams I'll never know

Silver

Some constructive criticism

Up and Coming's ELO should be reduced or it shouldn't be Bronze. In order to get 1400 ELO you have to be top 82 on the ladder which doesn't make sense when there is a gold achievement for getting top 50.
Keep on Going probably should be clarified on whether or not hi jump kicking a ghost type counts or not
Knock it off! probably should be clarified on how it works with non-knockoffable Z crystals. Most teams carry a Z move if the opponent has a Z move can you not get this achievement?
The Fource is Strong with this one shouldn't be gold. It's not that hard to make a decent team using 6 mons with 4x weaknesses.
Attack! Attack! Attack! probably should be bronze.

Various Thoughts
  • Having an opponent forfeit as soon as their 3rd to last pokemon is going to die is the most infuriating thing on the planet
  • Mono normal, steel, and ice suck. Gurdurr/Primeape/Passimian/Hitmonchan are on literally every team.
  • Stats don't mean nothing isn't too hard Gurdurr, Haunter, and Kadabra are all really good.
  • Gen 6 Generational is really hard it's pretty much Pyroar + screens Meowstic + 4 crappy mons of your choice
  • Easiest way to get For the Little Guys is either a clamperl or Pawniard sweep
  • Avoid setting up early even if the opportunity presents itself and a clean sweep is likely since 90% of the time they'll forfeit before 2 mons are left.
  • Was enjoyable going for achievements
Well done! I'm glad you enjoyed the LAs you've done so far! :)
I'm gonna wait and see how the ladder plays for Up & Coming- I'd expect the top players' Elos will increase considerably by the time Beta has ended and the main ladder has been established for a while. That said, if it turns out 1400 is a remarkably high Elo even a few weeks after Beta, I'll drop the requirement or promote Up & Coming to a higher tier.
It was established in g6 that for Keep on Going, hitting a ghost-type does count, and I've not changed that.
Can't get Knock it Off against Z (or hypothetically, megas, but none in the tier).
I'd agree with Fource. I'll try and do Fource myself, and if I can do it pretty easily, I'll drop it.
Again, I can see your point with Attack. If I find a lot more people achieve it than all the other Silvers, I'll drop it.

Please be careful to include screenshots where it says one is required! It is technically possible for a +3 Charizard to have less than the required speed, even without doing anything daft like giving it a speed-hindering nature or 0IVs- a neutral-natured Charizard with no speed EVs would not be fast enough to meet the requirement, but could give you an advantage in terms of setting up those boosts. Unless you've got a screenshot or can give some other proof, I can't give it to you. Sorry! :/

mfw when you beat the 9th dude on the PU ladder with a crappy mono rock team when they're using sun with 4 grass types

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7pubeta-622619574 Add me under monorock please

Also thanks QueenDaisy for the work you've done in this thread and actual acknowledging communal feedback. Looking through tons of replays making sure matches are legitimate seems pretty time consuming. PULA has been a good time.

Just a Phaze seems fun. If I were to add an achievement it'd be 'win a match without using any STAB moves' called "This Ain't Stabmons". I enjoyed the challenge of winning a match with all 6 mons only having 3 moves and I was honestly surprised an achievement like that wasn't already listed since you have stuff like win while only using attack/status moves etc. etc.

Great idea! I'll try "This ain't stabmons" and if it seems like it's reasonably possible to do then I'll add it. At first glance, sounds good for silver?
Glad you're enjoying it! :D

Happy you liked it!

Winning a match without STAB moves is definitely possible just really difficult

Silver works I'd probably lean more towards gold but either is fine. I felt it was about the same difficulty as "In Practice". Protean dual core + Tauros + 3 other mons seemed like the way to go. It's a pretty difficult challenge all things considered, you get a 4th moveslot unlike "In Practice" but your robbed of your strongest hitting STAB attacks. You have more coverage than in "In Practice" but you can't just setup with lilligant or setup with any of the shell smashers and click a STAB z move for an easy kill. I found it was best to play aggressively predicting switches that they make under the assumption you have STAB. Without STAB you have room for weird coverage you normally wouldn't be able to fit so you can at least surprise your opponent. Stall would probably be a decent way to win this but you can't run taunt on sableye or wish on audino etc. etc.

Tried it, and I think you're right for Gold. I've made it a gold achievement and given you points both for suggesting and completing it.

With this post I announce my retirement from PULA and Pokemon as a whole until Ultra Sun & Moon comes out. I've had a great amount of fun participating in the PU tier especially with PULA encouraging creative builds. Across all my alts combined I think I've played close to 300 matches over the last 2 weeks in just PU alone. I feel confident in saying I've tried every playstyle in PU at this point and tried almost everything under the sun including sun itself. I'm not super interested in continuing to learn the high level meta of a tier that isn't going to stabilize before USUM comes out with the monthly tier drops & rises and rather unpredictable weekly bans. I'm busy enough as is with classes. Thank you once again QueenDaisy for orchestrating this whole achievement thread it has been great fun.

Goodness, that's a lot! It will probably take me a while to process all of these, so please can everyone be patient with me while I do!

Congratulations, KnightK, and all the best of luck with your classes. Hopefully see you in US/UM.
