BASE BASE BASE - Bulky Offence Based On Rocking Out
Hey guys, I am here with a RMT that I have recently made and been having alot of fun with. I am a big fan of niche Pokemon that don't see alot of use and this team has a plethora of them! The team started when I tested out a team using the Pokemon 'Exploud' and decided to add a slight theme to the team by trading out one of it's current members and switched in 'Noivern'.
So when I decided to take the theme to the next level, that is where I started with the building of this team.
Note: The Symbols ** Mark, Queries/Questions that I am asking Myself Currently.
Base Base Base (Exploud) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Boomburst
- Overheat
- Focus Blast
- Ice Beam/Surf
Exploud was oddly powerful when I first tested it, and although it was let down by its typing i.e. being suceptable to a number of the current Metas Threats (Anything FAST with a Fighting Type Move... STAB or not.) it also had a number of niche uses. One of these was getting free switch into 'Dragapult's Shadowball Spam' it also had a great move pool, and with a little bit of prediction could really catch other players off guard. Overheat OHKO's Skarmory, Corviknight and Ferothorn and people who don't respect its power soon regret it. Focus Blast 2HKO's Blissey/Chansey although I have had some issues with its reliability and I have thought heavily about if it is worth it in the long run. Boomburst absolutely SLAPS pokemon that are not expecting it, and can't be avoided by Ghost Types due to its ability Scrappy which allows me get another hit in at times I otherwise wouldn't have been able to. Lastly, Ice Beam/Surf I have been testing - I have opted more often than not to go for Ice Beam due to the fact that I have good Water Type Coverage in the team already. Giving me the ability to slap other walls such as Mandibuzz, Defogers such as Land-T/Zapdos and giving me a button to press in order to predict a Dragon Type Switching in.
**I often feel stuck due to the use of Specs, I have considered switching to Life Orb, but I am concerned that it will be slightly too much of a power loss. The reason I am thinking this is because I am finding that I lose alot of momentum e.g. I used Boomburst, but then a Ferrothorn Switches in and I would like to use Overheat, but due to specs I am forced to Spam Boomburst or Switch out.
Pitch Control (Noivern) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Hurricane/Roost
- U-turn
- Roost/Flamethrower
Noivern has been an absolute star in the team so far. It is fast, being able to outspeed all other Dragon Types (Other than Dragapult) and hitting them with absolute bangers. Roost allows me some sustain, which seems to go well with the Pokemons suprising HP Pool, it also gives me some much needed ground immunity and I have used this numerous times to pressure threats such as Garchomp. I opted to run Hurricane over Flamethrower but it is a button that I rarely press, mainly due to the fact that it misses so often - In rain however this has been a god send and really gives me some nice STAB power outside of Draco Meteor. I like to use Noivern at times as fodder, where I can switch into Pokemon who can't really slap it out of the sky and then use its speed to Pivot/Pressure which has been very useful.
** I am playing around with taking away Roost for sustain and taking a third attack. Flamethrower being the obvious choice which would make the massive amount of Steel Types in the Meta alot easier to get rid of, without relying on the use of Overheat from Exploud or the Earthquake of Melmetal.
Lead Vocals (Toxtricity) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Punk Rock
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Overdrive
- Sludge Wave
- Boomburst
- Volt Switch
Now, in my original team I had used Zerora (because he is a monster) however he wasn't nearly rocky enough for the theme we have going on here and so the Punk Bad Ass Toxtricity stepped up to the plate. Boomburst hits like an ABSOLUTE machine with the Punk Rock ability. STAB Overdrive hits hard enough to make most Pokemon regret switching into it without immunity and Sludge Wave gives it a good way of dealing with Fairy Types who plague the game at the moment. Lastly, Volt Switch gives it a Pivoting option which is much needed in order to get Rila/Exploud out on the field. Unlike Zerora, I am not crippled by Hazzards and don't need to use Heavy Duty Boots.
** Specs gives Toxtricity a lovely power boost, but does leave me being forced to hard switch him out of the fight. Much like Exploud I have considered using Life Orb, but am concerned that I am losing too much health across the team passivly by doing so. Especially if I opt out of using Roost on Noivern for a little sustain.
** Maybe a Pokemon with Wish that fits the theme could be useful? Hmm.
Plug In Here (Melmetal) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Double Iron Bash
- Earthquake
- Thunder Punch
- Ice Punch
How am I going to set up all of my equipment without my trusty Extension Lead and Conducting Material. Melmetal's big stupid hands give me a nice pokemon to lead with in most cases. Ice Punch OHKO's Land-T which is lovely if they decide to no switch out. Assault Vest gives me some much needed bulk and when facing Rain Teams Melmetal is the absolute monster than decimates their entire team. Double Iron Bash is nice to kill Faries which Earthquake allows me to punish things such as Heatran etc. There isn't much to say about this Pokemon and it has earned its place on my team so far.
Rila On Drums (Rillaboom) @ Choice Band
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Wood Hammer
- Grassy Glide
- U-turn
- Knock Off
Standard Rillaboom set, I find that Grassy Surge adds a nice little sustain for the team that benifits me far more than the enemy. Knock off has proved useful both offensivly and defensivly for this team and the overall power of Rila really does punish teams who allow me to use him correctly. U-Turn gives me a Pivoting option and has allowed me to slap Weavile switch ins a number of times for good amounts of damage. Every band needs a man on the drums and here he is.
** Swords Dance Rilla doesn't seem to work, I find that being able to set it up is too few and far between. However I shall continue to test the idea.
Backing Dancer (Urshifu-Rapid-Strike) @ Choice Band
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Surging Strikes
- Close Combat
- Aqua Jet
- U-turn
Yes, I am aware that out of all the Pokemon on the team, Urshifu is probably scraping the barrel... however he is just so strong. There isn't much for me to say about this choice, I felt that he fills some of the gaps that the team had and I have won a number of matches due to his existence on the team.
Threats:
There are a number of threats to the team, however I feel that alot of the time what I struggle with is not the countering of said Threat, but more the ability to get the correct pokemon safely into the field in order to deal with said threat. I think I need to rethink some of the items I am using on the team to stop this the over use of 'Choice' Items is almost as much of a threat to the team that any one Pokemon.

This is the team that I had been having fun with and testing before hand. I thought I would add it anyways - It was equally as fun to test and play as the Boom 2.0 I am showcasing in this RMT.
