Hello all, as some of you may know, but most of you probably don't, I own at chaining. I have talked to a few people on AIM from Smogon, like Gin and Dragonsyth, and they have been interested in learning how to chain. I taught them how, and both have had success in their short time chaining. Chaining, for those of you who aren't very familiar with it, is a process by which to get wild Shinies, without your AR. Unfortunately, it is a very difficult and complex ordeal, that requires some form of guidance to be able to do. That's where this topic comes in, or would come in if I get enough support for it. This topic would basically be me teaching people how to chain, and giving them the tips that only someone who has chained a lot can provide. Fairly similar to the thread on GameFAQs, where I learned to chain.

Anyhow, if you're interested in this, please vote for it, and post here as well with why you might like/dislike this idea. Questions, opinions, and suggestions are all welcome, but keep the flaming to a minimum. If I don't get much support for this, I probably won't do it. And always feel free to add me on AIM if you really are interested in learning, or if you want to cyber.

I've caught over 100 shinies, and I've enjoyed chaining a lot. It can be a very nice break from breeding, especially if you want a challenge. If you'd like, you can look at some of the pokemon I've chained in my thread, the best IV's are listed obviously. DON'T POST THOUGH, PM me if you'd like to offer.

I am all for this, Ive tried so many times to chain but never get farther than 20. If you could, please get on AIM, I would like to learn.

I'd love this, my chains also tend to die around 20. I once managed a 40 Pachirisu chain, only for the game to make me walk further than I pressed, and somehow the chain got broken by a Pachirisu. Yes, the same species I was chaining.

I know the GameFAQs threads you're mentioning, it's like the only place there where people have brains.

Well, I really only use chaining for EV training, but sure, I wouldn't mind some knowledge from an experienced chainer. Might get some shinies to give off to 5 yr old midgets.

Gozgon - Okay, add me.

MegaMewtwo - I've been really really slow with my chaining projects, because I've been busy, but your project is almost up, expect a shiny Pachirisu within a week. Or if you'd like, you can try it yourself after you get advice from this potential thread (should I make it).

Ok Im on, Im battling somebody right now, so I might not answer.

Yeah, the reason I asked you to do it is because I was pretty much cheated out of one caught by me, so if I get some great advice, I could probably try again. Anyway, you think you could try to get it in a Premier Ball? Those things seem great for shinies.

I've always had problems chaining, a guide would be nice.

Generally I know what I'm doing but stuff always goes wrong - I only got to 40 twice. Once I ran out of Repels, and the other time my streak just... ended >_>

My only shiny was a lucky Absol at 8. Great IVs, but the nature and ability didn't pull through =[

Im all for this thread =) Im a decent chainer myself but not a professional. Have only gotten 4 shinies from chaining so far. xD

This is a great idea. I have tried chaining in the past it never seems to work for me. A guide for chaining would be extremely helpful. I only chain when I am usually doing nothing in my game, but if I knew how to chain well and good at it, I would most certainly chain as much as I could. Great idea!

Hmm, a topic like this wouldn't hurt. I've gotten above 40's plenty of times, but I've only gotten 1 shiny through that (cascoon). Of course, before (the last time I chained for a shiny was months ago), I didn't know that 40 was the magic number. I reached a 88 with arons, and that was just a nightmare, cause I didn't get a single shiny out of that.

Just one question, how long does it normally take after you reach 40 to get a shiny? :P I know how to chain and all, perhaps I'm just not waiting long enough for the shiny patch to appear?

I love shinies as long as they can be used in battle, they don't necessarily have to have the highest IVs, but they need to have the right nature (Synchers!), and probably have good speed IVs (for example, Aerodactyl must outspeed 216 Sp Weavile). So I'm very interested in shinies. :D And I'd enjoy this topic. I suck at chaining so far... but it can be fun.

I've chained before caught like 5 shinies. =/ I learned that you shouldn't go on the far sides on a big patch of grass, swarms are easier to chain, and you'll most likely get the same Pokemon if you go on a moving patch about 4 patches away.

But I got kind of bored with it, but I'd still like to chain. My highest chain was like 50 something. =/

MegaMewtwo - Premier Ball? Very nice choice. I know what you mean about that topic, it's like an oasis in the intelligence wasteland that is GameFAQs. Basically I want to recreate that here, although most people here aren't retards.

Forbidden - Nice to see even the mightiest of breeders support this, thanks. I'm working on your project and R2-D2's project as much as I can, but I can't seem to get it, hopefully within a week? Who knows, that sandstorm is my bane. Anyway, I'll update you about, I'm really sorry for the delay.

The Lexx, Swordmaster, and backlot - Through this topic, you'll find out how to get shinies aplenty once you get to 40! Getting there is by far the hardest part. 69 actually is better than my highest chain of 67, but I got 27 shinies out of that chain, which I'm guessing beats you... face! Also, after 40 it'll be about 1 shiny in every 20 super repels on average, but that varies a lot, often for the better from my experience.

Everyone else - thanks for the support! I really appreciate, I think I'll be making the thread if I see more interest like this.

I got 40 Swablus the other day, I went to catch one and had to use the radar and kept going to see where the chain would take me. When I hit forty I started just resetting to see if I could see a shiny but only did that like 10 times before I got bored and left. Even if I did find I shiny I didn't have a sychronizer on me, I figured it would be pointless.

I have no idea about chaining, so this is great. You should write a guide if you've caught over 100 shinies via chaining. It would be helpful since not very many people know much about it.

IIRC, resetting breaks the chain. Good thing you quit early.

i could also help teach people how to chain as, i chained for almost all summer and got over 60 shinies before getting tired of it. *hugs his 5 shiny Ralts*

I'm not too good at this. Best I've achieved is 35 dittos, followed by 31 Electrikes. No shines from the pokeradar at all! So I'm liking this idea.
