Gengar is a powerful wallbreaker that takes advantage of its amazing Ghost / Poison STAB combination and great offensive stats further augmented by Choice Specs. Focus Blast decimates Tyranitar, Bisharp, and Grafaiai, reliably OHKOing the latter compared to 2HKOing with Sludge Bomb instead. Trick incapacitates checks such as Blissey and Tinkaton, limiting their usefulness long-term. Energy Ball can be used over Focus Blast or Trick to immediately take out Gastrodon without having to Terastallize, all while still 2HKOing Tyranitar and dissuading it from switching in. Tera Ghost further boosts the power of Shadow Ball, allowing it to muscle past walls like Tinkaton, Quagsire, and most importantly Gastrodon. The power boost also helps against specially defensive Slowking, which would otherwise survive Shadow Ball and retaliate with Thunder Wave or Psychic. Tera Fairy is an alternative that gives Gengar a valuable Dark resistance, assisting against Sucker Punch users like Bisharp and Lokix as well as other Dark-types like Iron Jugulis.

Gengar is a good fit on bulky offense teams by virtue of its excellent wallbreaking power, synergizing well with pivots that can bring it in safely; these include the likes of Sandy Shocks, Slowking, and Talonflame, all of which give it free entry against Pokemon like Tsareena, opposing Slowking, and Wo-Chien. Sandy Shocks also provides Spikes support, putting more pressure on Covert Cloak Gastrodon and Tyranitar, while Slowking provides Future Sight support, making it harder for Grafaiai and Gastrodon to switch in. Tinkaton is able to remove Heavy-Duty Boots or Covert Cloak from Gastrodon, one of Gengar's better checks, making it a solid partner. Physical wallbreakers like Pawmot and Slither Wing put pressure on special walls like Gastrodon and Tyranitar and can also weaken Hippowdon, making it easier for Gengar itself to wallbreak. The aforementioned physical attackers also threaten Wo-Chien, which takes advantage of Gengar being locked into Shadow Ball. Gengar is easily revenge killed by threats like Choice Scarf Sandy Shocks, Noivern, and Scizor, so checks to them such as Hippowdon and Talonflame are appreciated.

Gengar is a powerful wallbreaker that takes advantage of its amazing STAB combination in Ghost / Poison and great offensive stats, further augmented by Choice Specs. Focus Blast decimates Tyranitar, Bisharp, and Grafaiai, though the latter is already hit hard by Sludge Bomb can be more specific that it can OHKO graf most of the time with fblast vs a guaranteed 2hko with sludge bomb . Trick incapacitates checks such as Covert Cloak Gastrodon definitely not considering they all run sticky hold lol and Tinkaton, limiting their usefulness long-term. Tera Ghost further boosts the power of Shadow Ball, allowing it to muscle past walls like Quagsire and aforementioned checks in Gastrodon and Tinkaton. but yea just put the focus there on gastro instead. Slowking is something that might be worthy of a mention since it can otherwise eat Sballs if at max / near max if more spdef and twave / psychic u back. Tera Fairy is an alternative that gives Gengar a valuable Dark resistance, assisting against Bisharp, Iron Jugulis, and Lokix. tbf it causes cb first impression to OHKO u so u may want to be more specific here about protecting from sucker from other sets or what not Energy Ball can be used over Focus Blast to immediately take out Gastrodon as well as other bulky Ground-types like Hippowdon, all while still wearing down Tyranitar. However, Gengar becomes unable to threaten Bisharp; Energy Ball also requires more chip damage than Focus Blast to take out Tyranitar. tbh i think its worth a slash really but can be a bit more positive about it anyway about how it opens up spamming your STABs without needing to tera to break through gastro etc afterwards. can maybe mention that it turns you from OHKOing ttar to 2HKOing on switch in if you want to also clarify the change here, but that its still sufficient to dissuade it switching in at least.

Gengar is a good fit on bulky offense teams by virtue of its excellent breaking power, synergizing well with pivots that can bring it in safely; these include the likes of Sandy Shocks, Slowking, and Talonflame. give a couple of examples of stuff that it can get entry on from these, stuff like tsareena and slowking come to mind. Can also bring up how shocks can give u spikes to help pressure stuff like ttar and cloak gastro more, while slowking can do fsight combos. Tinkaton is able to remove Heavy-Duty Boots or Covert Cloak from Gastrodon, one of Gengar's better checks, making it a solid partner. Physical wallbreakers like Pawmot and Staraptor put pressure on special walls like Gastrodon and Tyranitar, making it easier for Gengar itself to wallbreak. Gengar is easily revenge killed by faster threats like Choice Scarf Sandy Shocks as well as Dark- and Poison-resistant or immune Pokemon like Tyranitar and Scizor, wouldn't bother with the type charting here so much as just listing the examples probably so checks to them such as Hippowdon and Talonflame are appreciated.

Sandy Shocks is also able to provide Spikes support, putting more pressure on Covert Cloak Gastrodon and Tyranitar, while Slowking provides Future Sight support, making Gengar harder to switch into im not sure how relevant this is since the only gar switchin that rly cares about fsight is aiai, ttar tinka dont rly give a shit, ig gastro too maybe? .
