Oh actually mostly what I learned was from my own experience and a friend helping me out. Essnetially, for IV checking you can either use an AR, do an IV battle online where you get all the POkes you want to check and "fake battle" at level 100 with a friend, or give enough Rare Candies and use the Veekun IV calc. For breeding, usually if you have a perfect ditto you can breed almost anything with decent IVs specially with the power items in HGSS.
