Android arc was definitely carried hard by the anime adding necessary scenes from an arc that was far too short. You can see the story they were trying to tell, and the story had glimpses of strong themes i.e. negative vs positive fathers but it was all incredibly rushed because we didn't get enough time with Trunks. The anime fleshed out the themes and turned it into one of the best parts in the entire franchise.
