Good Afternoon ADVers, Mielke and I will be the primary hosts for ADVLTL I. With ADVPL V approaching its conclusion, I wanted to gauge interest and get an idea on which formats to slot for the first ADV Low Tier League!

The original goal of this tournament was to give tiers that didn’t make it to ADVPL V an opportunity to get some attention. Since this is brand new, we don’t need to get stuck on how this tournament used to be, and rather focus on what can make this as positive for the community as possible. Our recommendations for the first iterations format would look as follows;

6 Teams, 10 Slots
ADV Ubers
ADV UUBL
ADV UU
ADV RU
ADV NU
ADV PU
ADV ZU
ADV LC
ADV DOU
ADV Random Battle

The number and tiers of slots are absolutely open for discussion so please share your thoughts whether positive or negative. There are also some other directions we could go, including Hoenn Gaiden, Monotype, 1v1, Draft, and so on.

Tagging some prominent community members and hosts to get the conversation going: mielke Teh mason xGang BP Zpanther19 Nnico Iosi zinc Zpice Ghostilex Heysup LpZ nebi THE_CHUNGLER Bughouse Stories

If interested, I am looking for one more cohost for ADVLTL I. Feel free to DM me on Smogon or reach out on Discord @ J0aF

Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts!!

Love the idea ! More recognition around lesser known (& cool) ADV tiers is always very cool ! Personnaly a big fan of the inclusion of ZU & UUBL. Draft could be a good idea (Love ADV draft), tho idk how goes 6 player draft & how it could work in this format. Also a big fan of monotype in general, and ADV monotype could be a fun discovery for a lot of people, myself included.
This format is always great to get the different communities together & share their passion for pkm.
Anyway great concept, I would clearly try to participate in, at the very least, one tier the day it comes out.

My understanding is due to emerald open being pretty big, adv draft has had a decent bit of exploration. I’d support including it in the tour though don’t think anything should really be cut for it as of right now. More than ten slots also doesn’t seem reasonable due to low playerbase

Orre Colosseum (ADV VGC) would be a nice addition as a doubles format that has seen continuous growth over the last 2 years but hasn't had the chance to be included in any ADV tour yet.
There's a sizeable dedicated playerbase and this is just my biased opinion but at this current moment I find Orre to be more exciting than DOU and the number of players and amount of activity seems to reflect that.

I second Nnico Iosi suggesting Orre Colosseum. This would be an awesome spotlight for a really interesting tier that is quite different than DOU! Would also bring another part of the gen3 community into the bigger picture!

If we had to keep 10 slots, my suggestion is getting rid of Gen 3 Random Battles. I love the format, but I don't think it deserves as much attention, and doesn't really fit the spirit of teambuilding, helping eachother out, and learning more about these exciting and less explored Gen 3 metagames!

I also think it could make sense to get rid of DOU as some people have suggested, ADV 200 could be a cool addition! Especially with the recent attention its gotten with the RoA ladder!

Also because I feel like I have to, ADV 1v1 could be cool, there are definitely players that would dedicate and be competitive, but assuming this stays at 10 slots I don't know how it sneaks in, unless others think otherwise!

Love this tournament idea, gen3 is awesome!!

i'd like to vouch for orre colleseum! the community is super chill and there is a dedicated playerbase already, and the events the discord runs - orre cup and mount battle - tend to get a good number of entrants. we were even able to organise a small gathering at euic so there's definitely a good amount of interest in the format.

I agree with all the points LRXC made and maybe would add that the barrier to entry to adv dou is much higher than the rest, even something like 200.

I'd like to put STABmons in the ring for an option. It's an other meta, but it's very fun, competitive, and rewards building creativity. Draft was mentioned as well in the thread, and I think if this were to be included, the Callous Draft Duel format might make most sense.

I’d love to see ADV ZU featured in another team tour on forum, and there’s def the community and drive overall to have some really cool games that push the meta forward more during this period between Olympiad and Classic. It was unfortunate ZU wasn’t part of ADVPL, and this would be a great way to feature some more up and coming players and exciting matchups.

SU (unofficial tier below ZU) was also brought up as a potential format during some discussion in the ZUcord, and I would be overjoyed to see that included and support its inclusion. SU’s inclusion in RBYOMPL has been well-received, and there’s also been increased support for it through tours like the RBY SU and SS SU Opens on top of the forum threads that exist for all of SS+GSC+RBY. Those are other gens, but ADV SU has an even stronger cult following in the SU community, and it would be a great leap forward for ADV SU and the tier to be included. That said, I’d love to secure a spot for ZU first and foremost.

Really glad to see the positive support from lots of people already for the inclusion of more unofficial ADV tiers!

I think this tournament is a good idea as it gives lower tiers more of a spotlight and currently not many people compete in these type of tours compared to the traditional OU tours.

I would suggest having random battles as a BO3 slot, there's no prep or resources needed and it makes the match more interesting considering the match up luck involved.

Hopefully this also enables people to be more creative and provide updated teams as it's incredibly difficult for newer players to find the resources they need for the lower tiers.

Overall I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes, whether as a player or a spectator.
