More like the opposite tbh. They revealed it when they usually would, however we have this year of lull due to the game coming out later than you'd expect. Last generation, BDSP release ended up filling the void, but nothing of sort happened this one.
Thus we have had basically almost 2 years of no release, which while in fact healthy for the franchise as it gives more time to actually develop the games and hopefully give us better products overall, does end up in this drought of news.
I mean I would argue that valoo is right on the money with "revealed it earlier" with this exact description.
Mega pokemon werent revealed until august in the xy launch cycle. The game launched in October. Pokemon is no stranger to keeping a lot of its major cards close to its chest.
Pre-release reveals and such also got pulled back a lot starting with SWSH, where they primarily (outsie of things like E3) decided to keep it within the 3 or 4 months before release, and to generally only have one big information drop when doing so. It was really stark to track with L:A since they only started really talking about it around...October, I think? Right as BDSP was wrapping up and about 3 months before launch sounds about right.
It definitely seems to be the new normal just exacerbated, as valoo said, by the fact they revealed it the year prior before not talking about it again until this year. & i assume the only reason they showed it off last year was so they could show something new was in the works for Pokemon day. For investors if no one else.
At least we had a little extra at the Switch 2 direct? That was nice.

Well, this is somewhat surprising. A Pokémon Presents announcement a little under two months in advance I believe is a new record by a significant margin. Works out well for me, though, especially in the off chance we get any news about the GameCube Pokémon games here since I’m hoping at least one of them will be released by around early August for reasons unrelated to this thread. Not much for me to say about these announcements that hasn’t or will not be said by other people, though, so for now I’ll just say that finally we have a release date for this game, and October is thematically fitting seeing as Pokémon X & Y were also October games back in 2013 so that’s neat I suppose. I also think the artwork is pretty good, do we know who made it yet?
Oh, and one more thing. That one girl in the suit some of you were talking about is almost certainly Emma. I think it was Yung Dramps who was the first to suggest this, and I can absolutely see some kind of sub-plotline where she stayed working in Lumiose City as she got older after Looker left quite some time ago.
