Moves
========
- Celebrate, when powered through Normalium Z, grants Meloetta a one-time +1 boost to all of its stats, allowing it to hit harder, take more hits, and outspeed threats such as Choice Scarf Gardevoir and +1 Tyrantrum.
- Psychic is Meloetta's strongest STAB option, serving as a way to break through Pokemon such as Nidoqueen and Roserade.
- Focus Blast is able to punch through those resistant or immune to Psychic like Registeel, Mega Steelix, and Umbreon.
- Shadow Ball rounds off Meloetta's coverage due to its ability to deal super effective damage to the likes of Bronzong and Cresselia, which otherwise resist or don't mind its attacks.
- Thunderbolt is a viable alternative that allows Meloetta to muscle past checks such as Mandibuzz and Mantine.
Set Details
========
- Maximum investment in Special Attack and Speed alongside a Timid nature optimizes Meloetta's offensive presence.
- Serene Grace doubles the chances of Psychic and Shadow Ball dropping the opponents Special Defense, occasionally coming in handy for breaking past Pokemon like Florges and Mantine more easily.
- Normalium Z is necessary in order to power up Celebrate one time.
Usage Tips
========
- Before using its Z-Move, Meloetta can come in and out of the field in order to throw off coverage moves to chip away at the opposing team.
- Z-Celebrate is best utilized late-game where Meloetta can capitalize on its all-around stat boosts. However, careful planning of Z-Celebrate is advised due to its use only being one-time, so the removal or weakening of specially bulky Pokemon like Florges, as well as Bronzong and Mantine if lacking appropriate coverage, is necessary before attempting to sweep.
- Meloetta can find good opportunities to use Z-Celebrate on forced switches or against passive Pokemon like Mega Steelix and Gligar.
- One can choose to keep Meloetta's coverage move ambiguous in order to optimize its matchups, as checks such as Milotic and Bronzong are far less consistent if Meloetta is carrying the appropriate move and reveals it against them.
- Avoid status whenever possible, as they're quite detrimental to Meloetta's role as a late-game cleaner. For instance, Toxic can limit Meloetta's number of turns on the field while Paralysis slows it down to a crawl.
Team Options
========
- Physical wallbreakers such as Barbaracle, Tyrantrum, and Swords Dance Feraligatr form an excellent offensive core with Meloetta, as they're able to blitz past specially defensive Pokemon while Meloetta can dispatch Pokemon like Bewear and Quagsire in return.
- Fighting-types like Virizion and Toxicroak thrive off of Meloetta's ability to break past Pokemon such as Dragalge and Gligar if Toxicroak lacks Ice Punch. Their ability to threaten Steel- and Dark-types as well as specially defensive walls like Milotic and Umbreon is highly appreciated by Meloetta.
- Threats to Meloetta like Mandibuzz and Escavalier are handled effectively by Pokemon such as Mega Ampharos and Ninetales, the former also serving as an offensive pivot with Volt Switch.
- Various other pivots such as Gligar and Rotom-C are vital in bringing Meloetta in safely and luring in Pokemon for it to take advantage of such as Mega Abomasnow and Roserade. Gligar is notably able to wear down Steel-types with Earthquake and set Stealth Rock, allowing Meloetta to become more threatening late-game by virtue of wearing down switch-ins and allowing it to spam Psychic more liberally.
