Project RU Best Next Thing - Reloaded『Cycle 15: Diancie - Submissions』

Congratulations to zizalith for winning cycle 10! Let's talk a bit more about new additions:

Cycle 11: Metagross!

The newest Steel-type brought to the table (RIP Stakataka), Metagross can be considered a direct counterpart to other Steel-types such as Bronzong and Registeel. With a great typing and the ability to pressure hazard removers like Blastoise, Mantine, and Mandibuzz due to many coverage options, Metagross has been carving it's niche as a offensive Stealth Rock user, and sometimes as a sturdy and powerful wallbreaker when paired with a Choice Band. With many other options available, what can we do with it?

Metagross @ Weakness Policy / Psychium Z
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Zen Headbutt
- Earthquake
- Agility

Pretty simple set. The objective is to stomach a super effective hit with its nice bulk even without investment and set up to clean. Alternatively, you can opt for Z-Move to nuke shit and clean somewhat more reliably. The defense can be run in exchange for some speed for guaranteed survival of Foul Play from Mandibuzz but this generally isn't worth it imo.

Metagross is a really powerful pokemon with a base Attack of 135, it also offers a good bulk and a very good movepool and a strong ability in clear body.
I chose Psychium Z Zen Headbutt because Zen Headbutt is one of his strong STABs and packed with a Z-Move it can dent holes in the opposing team.
Meteor Mash is Metagross primary STAB attack and always has a chance of getting an attack raise, meanwhile Earthquake is to hit Fire Type mons, which come in on Metagross a.E. Ninetales, Aarcanine and Salazzle.
Ice Punch is there to have super effective coverage for mons like Noivern and also Zygarde 10%.

a few Calcs:
252+ Atk Metagross Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Registeel: 172-204 (47.2 - 56%) -- 78.5% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Metagross Shattered Psyche (160 BP) vs. 188 HP / 128 Def Snorlax: 351-414 (69 - 81.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Metagross Shattered Psyche (160 BP) vs. 252 HP / 104 Def Eviolite Porygon2: 192-226 (51.3 - 60.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Metagross @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Trick/Zen Headbutt
- Meteor Mash
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch

Here we have a nice cleaner with the addition of Scarf, in order to rectify the Spe issue.

Meteor Mash and Earthquake are here for coverage; there is no need for Bullet Punch due to the Choice Scarf.
I think that Trick is better than Zen Headbutt in a moveset with a Choice item, but the decision is up to you.
Ice Punch is now a viable option to hit many targets supereffectively, which were faster than it before such as Noivern and Zygarde-10%.

262 Spe points x 1.5 from Choice Scarf = 393 Spe points (Jolly 252-Spe-EVS Zygarde-10% reaches 361); probably it seems too much, but without the Scarf you need 252 Spe EVs + a Jolly nature to outspeed...something, most notably Barbaracle.

I love using this set honestly. Grass Knot blows away Rhyperior and 2HKOs physdef Milotic. Bullet punch is still pretty reliable, but you'll have to weaken everything before trying to bp. Thunderpunch OHKOs Mantine and has a good chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rocks. Finally, Hidden Power Ice snipes any Flygon trying to come in on a Thunder Punch or Grass Knot. It also blows back Zygarde if it tries to set up in your face for some odd reason, as well as murdering Noivern. Earthquake is another coverage option that allows you to hit Nidoqueen, Opposing Metagross, Raikou, and Arcanine for solid damage. The speed creeps Adamant Bewear

I liked a lot the idea of mixed Metagross as a lure to multiple Pokémon and agility Metagross is a really good cleaner, but i gotta give my vote to Choice Scarf. It gets you so much by surprise to pick important kills and isnt easy to read on most teams, really a cool and unpredictable choice.

Cycle 12: Slowbro!
Slowbro has recently skyrocketed in viability thanks to the popularity of toxicroak and other fighting types being at an all-time high, the introduction of metagross into ru, and even stakataka's brief stint in the tier. however, its high defense isnt everything its got going for it; its unique typing and wide movepool drastically increase its versatility as well. what sets can this week's participants come up with?

Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk; 0 Spe

General idea

Trick Room is a good way to deal with faster opponent that have invested many EVs into their Spe stat, thus making those EVs useless under this circumstance.
On the other hand, Life Orb + SpA investment is really handy because Slowbro hits decently hard; Regenerator allows our pokemon to keep itself alive by switching out. This means that monster, which normally can switch-in carelessly, can't enter recklessly into the battlefield.
With 252 HP EVs + a Relaxed nature (to be "fast" under Trick Room) this bulky Water is still quite tanky.
Scald + Psyshock are the STABs, so we have only one moveslot left. Ice Beam is generally more consistent even though it misses the KO on Rotom-Mow.

Set that transforms slowbro into a wallbreaker, the lack of power compared to his contemporaries is compensated by increased survivability from natural bulk and regenerator. It also retains its ability to handle mons such as metagross and barbaracle effectively while still being a soft check to other physical attackers such as zydog, toxicroak and machamp. 8 speed evs creeps creeped escavaliar.

Offensive Trick Room Slowbro

Slowbro @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Atk; 0 Spe
- Scald
- Psyshock
- Ice Beam/Fire Blast
- Trick Room

Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

Slowbro has a great time vs physical attackers, so why not extend this to its teammates? reflect allows slow to take phys attackers even more reliably while providing some help to its teammates

my votes on specs, its a neat breaker that doesnt sacrifice much of its defensive presence, kinda like cb rhyp. big fan of block sets though
