81% clefable usage jesus it really do be this easy for me, all other mons in SS OU are UNVIABLE

I have been wary of wading into this thread until now, but I'm getting confused by what is considered acceptable and unacceptable here. Since I barely know anyone who has posted in this thread, a quick summary of why I'm on Smogon/PS. I've enjoyed playing Pokemon games for the last 17 years and play mons as a break from the responsibilities and pressures of university/work. Ideally, I'd like to chill, play games, click buttons and maybe even have the odd run in a tour, so seeing so many people in this thread alone locked into arguments with each other is very off putting.

There are a multitude of posts in this thread which I feel do not belong here, and a large percentage come from the user -Tsunami-. An example is this post:

After this absolute atrocity of a game, I am hereby OFFICIALLY DECLARING UmPM to be UNVIABLE
Thank you for your time.
Although this game was quite poor due to several misplays by both sides, I found it very entertaining to watch; seeing this kind of post attacking the loser for timing out comes across as distasteful, especially when both players probably have limited experience in official tours. I also believe this post was the one that originally derailed this thread and led to the shitstorm that followed.

On the other hand, several posts have been deleted from this thread. One example is a post saying " im here to cash in some free reaction score can we get this to 1000 likes" and several posts with memes based on a picture of -Tsunami- irl. I don't disagree with these deletions, because the first is completely irrelevant to the thread and the other posts contain irl information posted without consent. This suggests that there is a baseline for what is unacceptable. What I'm trying to determine is how posts like the one I've quoted below do not fall below this mark.

LOOOOOOL I wasn't expecting this many goons to come out of the woodwork.

This was a nice attempt at using my own words to attack me; I see what you did there, bro. However, your grammar is really pretty bad. I know that you're a foreigner, so let me help you out a bit. The phrase you are looking for is, "did people really finance his patreon so he can make posts as atrocious at this one?" And to answer your question....yes, I do have some minor patreon support.

Actually, I shit on people because I find it to be entertaining. I don't really care what the masses think. I merely spoke my mind on this issue. This fledgling tournament player is clearly unviable; I'd rather not give him false hope like the rest of you seem to be doing.

God, the grammar and spelling in this post is making it hard for me to take you even remotely seriously; I know that you're foreign, but jesus. Anyway, I'll respond. Do you have a trophy? No. I don't even know who the hell you are.

I do know that you're irrelevant, though. And if you're irrelevant, you're most likely unviable. So, there's that. Clowns have to stick together, I suppose.

Ah yes, the classic "omg I don't know what else to say so I'll bring in some real-world examples of things he could be doing instead of wasting his time hating on people on a Pokemon site." Why are you on this site, bro? I assume that you like to play Pokemon with your friends, and maybe even participate in tournaments.

Although, it appears that you haven't played in any relevant tournaments yet, but that's okay! I'm sure you'll be ready for the big stage eventually. Anyway, to return to my earlier point, I write the posts I do on this site because I find it to be entertaining. The same way you like to play Pokemon, I enjoy bashing people on here. It's as simple as that. People spend A LOT of time building and playing on this site. I spend a fraction of that time writing my posts. Now that the math is in front of you, do you understand my viewpoint? Also, AT LEAST SPELL 'RETARDED' RIGHT!!! LIKE COME ON!!!!!!!!

I really don't remember that at all. That really doesn't mean anything, honestly LOOOL I don't even play Ubers, and I never did. Well, I'm glad that your spirits seem to be high after that absolutely awful excuse of a Pokemon game. I look forward to seeing your future games! I will say, though, as a closing note, saying that you only made "some mistakes" is a bit of an understatement. I'm sure you'll improve in the future, though....maybe! At least your grammar seems pretty decent for a foreigner; I shall respect you a bit more for that.

Anyway, I will continue to be calling people unviable based on small-sample sizes during the course of this tournament. Who will be the recipient of the next UNVIABLE DECLARATION? If you want to avoid my hate, trying playing early in the morning, maybe between the hours of 5-10 AM Central time. I'm not gonna be watching replays of this awful round.
Quoting the global rules, I would say the post above goes against several rules/punishments in that thread, specifically:
  • Do not flame or abuse other members. The anonymity of the Internet does not give you a license to treat the users of this forum disrespectfully. Of course, posts in Firebot may be an exception, but please refer to the rules of that forum. This rule goes at least triple if the member in question is a moderator or administrator, as alluded to above.
  • Outside of "Firebot Development Lab", trolling is not allowed. This means keep purely joke posts and one word replies out of the serious forums. If you do not have something substantial to contribute to a thread, do not bother posting. Just think to yourself, "Does my post add something to this thread?" If the answer is no, think twice about hitting that submit button.
  • Insulted Another Member(s): (2 Points, 60 Days) Someone insulting, insinuating, or otherwise calling out a member in a rude way.
  • Unsportsmanlike Conduct: (1 point, 21 days) Although some smack talk in tournaments is certainly allowed, it's important to keep your cool. There's a difference between friendly dissing and being outright demeaning, and if you're not sure which one your post falls under, just don't post it.
  • Trolling: (2 Points, 60 Days) The general Internet definition of trolling tends to be "trying to lure a negative reaction", generally done by playing Devil's advocate in a really extreme and annoying way. Stupid RMTs with 6 Wurmples fall under this too. This one is hard to draw an exact line for, but generally the moderators will know it when they see it, and their decisions are final.
The trolling one is a bit subjective but worth mentioning. However, I have no doubt that -Tsunami-'s posts consistently flame and insult other users, some of whom have done nothing directly to him to provoke such a reaction. I would also consider it unsportsmanlike, although it's a bit weird because he's not actually playing. He has also stated multiple times that his objective is to antagonise and offend people.

I understand that there is flexibility with the rules. For example, the copious cat/dog posts are not relevant to the thread but served the purpose of changing topic; there was also a l33t 5p34k post which was clearly a joke. However, most of -Tsunami-'s posts go beyond joking and are plainly insulting, and this can be seen from the subsequent responses to them.

The impact of allowing posts such as the ones above is that it derails the thread, and causes arguments to break out - in some cases these arguments end up being completely unrelated to both the original thread and the post that was originally being responded to (see Starry's post). Moreover, allowing posts such as these signals that this behaviour is acceptable. If everyone chose to make degrading posts about every single person who loses a game in this tour, I would expect tours like WCoP to die since a lot of teams would struggle to field teams because people would be too afraid of losing.

So to conclude, I think there are consistency issues with what's acceptable and unacceptable that should be addressed. I guess this will come across as a callout to the mod people who are using their free time to try to make this site a nice environment to competitively play pokemon, so note that I do appreciate what you guys do, I just disagree with allowing consistent insulting of other users.

Also, go team UK!

Summary of the below post for those who lack the time to read it in full: user -tsunami- is like the coronavirus; whenever he posts, this thread becomes cancerous.

Serious post in this thread for once:

I think banter and chatting shit is an inevitable part of competition, but where it is posted is important. I'm not going to talk about if anyone has crossed a line with their comments so far. I'm also not claiming to be a saint as I've definitely been guilty of trolling in the tour threads too.

I think its a bit dumb that its almost impossible to ignore trolls and general hate posts in the tournaments subforum and the smogtours server. There is literally one thread that active WCOP players have to open each week to keep track of scores and report their wins/losses, yet that same thread is completely open to irrelevant past players to post whatever the hell they want targeting whoever they please. There is literally one server that players have to play on and its smogtours, where people can chat shit about you or message you and you don't really get much of a say in it. Again, I think banter is important, but everyone should have the choice about whether to engage with it or to avoid it and get on with their games. The current set-up doesn't really allow that.

If you're a real sack of shit and want to troll an actual sportsperson, you can either go to the game and scream undecipherable shit from the stands 100m away, or you can log on twitter and be an asshole over the internet. Either way, your target never actually needs to hear or see what you say, they can just close twitter or block DMs or get off the internet. Unfortunately, playing Pokemon competitively necessitates actually using the internet, playing on a troll-y public smogtours server, and opening these bs public threads to keep track of the tour and report wins. There's no way to actually avoid trolling - its like giving twitter trolls completely free access to the pitch post-game to go and yell at whoever they please with no regard for the player (note i'm not saying we're even close to a sport but still).

I agree with bringing back the general talk threads - its a thread that nobody ever is forced to open unless they want to, and therefore they can pick and choose if they want to be part of the circus. Main thread should be somewhere for people to actually keep track of the tournament in an official capacity without having to come across weirdos writing 5000-word essays about how dogshit they specifically are at a kids video game.

On another note, let's go UK. I was kinda bummed when WCOP was announced to be CG only as our old gen players are pretty underrated, but looking at our line-up, I actually have more confidence than I do most years. Go crush it.

As you were.
