UU Room Events
This thread is the information hub for UU PS! Room Events hosted by the UU Roomstaff, and apart from Tour Nights, our Project Hosts team. In particular, this is where all information about upcoming UU Roomtour Nights will be kept. We are currently hosting the following events, which will all occur in our Pokemon Showdown room https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/underused.

UU Roomtour Nights
In a similar vein to RoA tour nights, UU Roomstaff will now be hosting official preplanned tour nights in the UU PS! room. These will also include Old-Gen tours designed to showcase the various generations of Underused and help those looking to learn Old-Gens of UU to get experience playing against those more experienced in these tiers.

Tour nights will consist of 1 SS UU tour, and one (two on sunday) additional tour depending on the day of the week, following the following format:

  • Monday - GSC
  • Tuesday - ADV
  • Wednesday - DPP
  • Thursday - BW
  • Friday - ORAS
  • Saturday - SM
  • Sunday - SS + RBY
Hosts may also decide to host an additional 3rd tour on top of this, which will be mentioned in the schedule.

All official roomtours detailed in this thread will count towards an official leaderboard, with Winners earning 3 points, Runners-Up earning 2 points, and Semi-finalists earning 1 point. At the end of each month, the person with the most points will be able to choose one of the following prizes, and will be added to the Hall of Fame.
  • Custom Role Colour in UU Discord.
  • Prize Winner Rank (^) in UU Room (subject to behavioural vetting)
Any ties in terms of points will be settled by who has more overall Wins, or by whoever has been runner-up more often if Wins are also tied. If 1st place is still tied after this, both players will fight a Bo3 to determine the winner.

Upcoming roomtour nights will be advertised in this thread, and a timetable of upcoming events can also be found in the post below. All results of Roomtour nights will be posted by the hosts in this thread. You can also see a schedule of upcoming roomevents by typing "/roomevents" in the UU room on PS!

See our Old Gens Hub run by r0ady for more information about these tiers, and for sample teams!

UU Seminars

thanks to Fusion Flare for the art <3
Want to share your opinions on UU topics, and have open discussions about the UU metagame? Seminars are for you! During UU Seminars, Roomstaff will hold a structured discussion on current UU metagame topics, which will be predetermined before the session, such as,

"What are your opinions on how/if Scyther has effected the UU metagame?"
"How has the introduction of Flip Turn effected Barraskewda's position in the UU metagame?"

With a lot of DLC mons about to drop, this will provide a great forum allowing people to share their thoughts on our new additions and get adjusted to the new metagame. After each session, the host will post a brief summary of some of the opinions presented in this thread for anyone who missed it!

UU Brain Teasers

credit to lyd for the artwork!
Is your head filled with lots of useless information about Pokemon mechanics for scenarios that are unlikely to ever realistically occur? Do you enjoy problem solving and tricky puzzles? Then this is the perfect event for you! Introducing the SWSH edition of UU Brain Teasers! In this project, a host will entertain the UU room with UU related puzzles and brain teasers, such as,

On turn 1 of a UU game, a 252 Spa Modest Weeezing-Galar OHKOs a max speed max special attack Roserade with a STAB move. How did this happen? The move did not crit, and Roserade's stats were not affected.

Weezing was holding a petaya berry, roserade attacked with sludge bomb to put it in range of its berry, and then weezing used Belch.

+1 252+ SpA Weezing-Galar Belch vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Roserade: 231-273 (88.5 - 104.5%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO

Did you get the answer? Try our more in the PS UU room during Brain Teasers events if you enjoyed that question! The person who solves the most teasers within a session will win the session and have their name added to the hall of fame :)

Rules

  • Each Brain Teasers session will comprise of 5 questions, the solutions to which rely on creativity and manipulation of Pokemon mechanics. This will be hosted in the PS UU room.
  • Each question may have more than one possible answer, each person to come up with a valid answer will score a point. Only one point may be scored per question, and it will be up to the host's discretion to decide if an answer is too similar to a previously accepted one.
  • The person who scores the most points at the end of 5 questions will win the week. If there is a tie, a short lightning round will be done between the two players, consisting of a Best of 5 on easy questions such as,
    • True/False: A Choice Specs Flamethrower from a Timid maximum SpA Noivern is a guaranteed OHKO on a max spA max speed modest Ice Scales Frosmoth?
  • This is a friendly competition, please be patient as these sessions can be quite hectic and the host may have to check multiple answers before they can check yours.

Thursday 9th July Seminar

What sets other than Choice Scarf have you been finding success with on Jirachi? What value do these sets have in the metagame, and are there any Pokemon in particular you think pairs excellently with them?

A wide variety of different sets were brought up as viable and popular, such as Calm Mind 3 attacks, Calm Mind + Wish, Wish + U-turn/Body Slam, and Mixed Ebelt.

Calm Mind Jirachi has been seeing rising usage recently, its quite a formidable breaker thanks to its solid speed, typing, and bulk, coupled with the coverage to break through checks such as Krookodile/Tyranitar. Wish and 3 attacks were both commented on by people, Calm Mind + Wish is a nice option to give it the ability to more consistently wallbreak and provide some team support with the many switches it can force, while 3 attacks sets with Thunderbolt/Shadow Ball allow it to much more reliably deal with Teleport Slowking, which can otherwise just freely come in and Teleport out to a revenge killer like Lycanroc or Mienshao. Shadow Ball was preferred by some people as it allows you to more directly damage Doublade and opposing Jirachi, but Thunderbolt was preferred by others for the slightly higher base power, and ability to deal with Haze Milotic/Mantine.

Wish sets have also been very popular with people, being able to provide a lot of team utility while still checking dangerous threats like Kyurem. While U-turn is a nice option to allow Jirachi to better pass Wishes and maintain momentum, Body Slam was also commented on as a great option that pairs excellently with Serene Grace and Iron Head, and being able to punish a lot of offensive counterplay trying to hard switch in to pressure it.

Mixed Ebelt sets have been seeing some usage due to the incredible coverage and breaking power they offer, with Thunderbolt and Psychic being able to cover otherwise solid checks to a physical jirachi like Slowking and Tentacruel. With options like Energy Ball they can also stallbreak very reliably, while this also allows it to threaten Rotom-Wash in other matchups.

Substitute + Toxic sets were also commented on, as Jirachi can force a lot of switches for easy substitute opportunities, allowing it to easily Toxic checks like Slowking and wear them down with Toxic + Iron Head.

~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~

Other than Scolipede, which (if any) Pokemon do you find most banworthy currently, and why?

Terrakion and Crawdaunt were the main two Pokemon brought up. Terrakions combination of dangerous speed, breaking power, and adequate bulk leaves it with only 1-2 reliable defensive counters in Palossand and Clefable, while defensive checks like Skarmory are easily broken through by SD sets if Sturdy is broken. Furthermore, offensively checking SD sets is limited to only really base 108 or faster Pokemon or scarfers, which can severely limit the counterplay, and is made very difficult especially on Screens where it can more reliably set up.

Crawdaunt was seen as problematic by a lot of people, but most people claimed that this was largely in part due to Teleport giving it so many more opportunities. The complete lack of defensive counterplay coupled with Teleport makes it really difficult for more defensive teams to play around, while Crawdaunt can still put a lot of work in in offense matchups due to a very powerful priority aqua jet that can easily clean, and it can still create breaking opportunities with aqua jet 50/50s vs stuff like Lycanroc/Terrakion.

While these were the main two that were discussed, a few people also brought up Blissey and Jirachi as being potentially problematic. It was commented on that Blissey provides far too good a pivot with Teleport now, enabling a lot of dangerous offensive threats breaking opportunities with the easy switches it forces against most special attackers in this tier. The fact that Jirachi has severely limited defensive counterplay to its Calm Mind and Mixed sets was commented on, but most people agreed that there is still enough offensive counterplay to these sets, while CM + wish sets also easily allow Slowking to freely teleport to offensive counterplay, and that the net positives Jirachi brings to the tier with all the defensive and offensive roles it provides, espcially with its Scarf and Wish passing sets, far outweighs this.

~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~

Now that Aegislash and Gengar have left the tier, Krookodile is much more free to run other items than Chople Berry. What items have you been finding particularly useful on Krookodile? Have you been trying other sets such as Choice Band or Choice Scarf too?

Passho Berry was discussed as being a favourite of a lot of people. I mentioned specifically how its really nice for Krookodile + Slowking/Tentacruel based structures that have issues with Rotom-Wash, which in tandem with Smack Down makes it much harder for Rotom-W to really bother your Krookodile. Other people also commented on how it gives Krookodile a one time pass vs Crawdaunt and Starmie, which is super valuable with both these Pokemon being excellent currently.

Tanga Berry was also mentioned by a few people, as being an option on teams that really struggle with Scolipede, but otherwise being highly suboptimal any other time. Other people tried Heavy-Duty-Boots to prevent Krookodile being worn down by hazards, but found them to be rather inconsequential most of the time, especially due to Krookodile's Rock resistance.

Choice Band Krookodile was fairly popular with a few people due to being a wallbreaker with no defensive counterplay outside of Skarmory, with options like Iron Tail and Close Combat to cover Weezing-Galar and Rotom-Wash respectively, while providing more speed and some utility with Intimidate than Choice Band Tyranitar offers, making it able to get wallbreaking opportunities against much more Pokemon. I also discussed the idea of a Life Orb + Smack Down set to act as an alternative wallbreaker thats less reliant on coverage to deal with Ground immunities, and can also break through Skarmory, but commented on how its kind of hard to justify over resist berries on a lot of teams.

Thursday 16th July Seminar

What's your thoughts on Durant in the current metagame ?

Most people have agreed that Durant is a prominent threat which is able to pressure most of the metagame since it's able to both pressure defensive cores thanks to Hustle and its wide coverage but also offensive threats thanks to its great speed but also insanely strong priority : First Impression which allows it to revenge kill faster threats such as Lycanroc-Dusk, Choice Scarf Krookodile and even Choice Scarf Jirachi at least 75% from First Impression. The more exposed set was AoA LO with First Impression + Iron Head + Superpower + Thunder Fang/Crunch/Filler but some people also mentionned that Choice Band Durant is also a top threat by being able to get some clean 2HKO (like on Skarmory with Thunder Fang). However some people highlighted the fact that CB Durant was a bit more easy to deal with than LO variants since it was a bit more easy to play around thanks to Durant being choice locked. Hone Claws Durant was mentionned as a really dangereous setup sweeper even though the lack of coverage may be annoying for it. That's why some players brought on the table Hone Claws Durant + Magneton in order to trap Skarmory and put some pressure on Water-types + momentum provided by Volt-Switch.

Talonflame was mentionned as one of the best check to Durant thanks to its typing and speed which allows it to handle pretty nicely Durant's STABs but like most Durant's checks, it really need to scout the moveset of Durant to be sure to not come on a Thunder Fang or Rock Slide.

Overall, people have agreed that Durant was probably still too much for the tier and should remain UUBL.
What's your thoughts on Mamoswine in the current metagame ?

Unlike Durant, Mamoswine, opinions on Mamoswine seem to differ. Indeed some players mentionned that Mamoswine was really hard to switch into and even Pokemon such as bulky Rotom-Wash, Slowking or Skarmory have to be careful. Rotom-Wash and Slowking don't appreciate Knock Off while Skarmory lost its 1v1 against Mamoswine if it's flinched once. However, some players mentionned that unlike Durant which is really good agains't both defensive and offensives threats, Mamoswine kinda struggle to deal with some offensive threats due to its (below) average speed which makes it pretty weak to top threats such as Jirachi, Keldeo, Terrakion, Cobalion, Heracross, Lycanroc-Dusk, Obstagoon, Starmie or even speedy Tentacruel. Some players also highlighted the fact that Ice Shard is not as good as First Impression as a priority and a lot of offensive checks to Mamoswine actually resist it. Estarossa mentionned the fact that he didn't see a lot of Mamoswine on the ladder and Avarice suggested that it was maybe because of the high usage of Skarmory which is despite all a solid check to Mamoswine. The bad bulk and defensive typing of Mamoswine was also a a brought reason to the low usage of Mamoswine on the ladder.

Then some people talked about Stealth Rock Mamoswine and most players agreed on the fact that it wasn't the best option on Mamoswine at the moment even though the role compression is really nice. Knock Off has distinguished itself as the best option on Mamoswine. For his part, Luirromen mentionned that Pain Split Rotom-Wash was a good way to handle Mamoswine + Magneton.

Last but not least, we tried to see if people was more likely to run Adamant or Jolly on Mamoswine and there was a real debate on it. While some people mentionned that Adamant was really nice to pressure even more defensive threats, some players mentionned that being able to outspeed both Tsareena and Toxtricity was a good thing. All in all, there were differing views on this question so it’s up to you to make your own opinion !
What's your thoughts on Teleport in the current metagame ? To you think it's a too good tool ? Which Pokemon are the best abusers of it ?

Since Teleport has been brought up by some people has a possible issue in this metagame, we tried to understand what were the reasons of this move being so good right now. Some players highlighted that Teleport is amazing thanks to its -6 priority which allows players to get with ease the momentum which is insanely good on both offensive and defensive spectrum. Indeed thanks to Teleport, people are able to be very aggresive with Pokemon such as Terrakion or Crawdaunt which can come more freely than ever on the field in order to pressure the opponent. On the other hand, some players mentionned that Teleport + Regenerator and/or Heavy-Duty Boots was a real bless for some teams/cores and allow Pokemon to handle to a insane extent some hits and pressure from the opponent.

Most players agreed that the best Teleport users right now are Blissey and Slowking and both of them are quite amazing in their role. Blissey is now able to be run in bulky offense teams and to act as a blanket check to many threats while still being able to bring some momentum to the team thanks to Teleport which prevents it to be a dead weight. On the other hand Slowking has shown to be one of the best pivot in the tier thanks to Regenerator + Teleport while still being able to pressure some Pokemon thanks to its combo of Teleport+Future Sigh (+ strong Fighting-type). Some people talked about strange Teleport users such as Starmie but some players mentionned that it already has a bad 4 MSS. On the other hand someone said that Shell Smash + Teleport Cloyster could be fun in order to both pressure and keep momentum vs some teams while Porygon2 was another nice user of Teleport even though Slowking is overall better. Luirromen also brought on the table Exeggutor-Alola with both Trick Room + Teleport and I mentionned that the lack of coverage or STAB was a bit of an issue.
Thanks to all the participants for their contributions. I enjoyed a lot being the host of this seminar and I hope you had as much fun as I did.

Saturday 18th July Seminar!

Did four topics today because I had some extra time and a few of the questions didn't have quite as much meat to them as topics like Teleport previously.

~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~

What are your thoughts on Substitute + Toxic Jirachi? Have you been finding any particular success with it?

Quite a few people in the chat commented that they havent really seen it in usage, though they understand why it would be quite painful to play against. A few people brought up how its absolutely fantastic at getting around its usual checks to physical sets like Rotom-Wash, Slowking and Incineroar, and how that even when its forced out its usually always making progress because once something like Rotom-W/Incineroar is Toxic'd, they are in a far worse position next time Jirachi gets an opportunity.

I specificaly brought up about how easy it really is to get Sub opportunities with Jirachi, considering the amount of stuff you can actually force out, making gaining progress with Jirachi very easy in matchups without hard counters like Rocky Helmet Skarmory. Helmet Skarmory was specifically brought up as being something very difficult for this Jirachi set to deal with, requiring a lot of team support to get around it, although Skarmory doesn't really like taking Burns.

Druddigon was also brought up as being a very annoying Pokemon for SubTox Jirachi to deal with due to its sheer presence threatening it from clicking moves, although its worth noting that non-EQ sets wil just allow it a free Substitute opportunity. Most people realistically said your best approach of dealing with Sub+Toxic Jirachi is to actively not let it get opportunities and prevent it from freely Subbing up, which removes a lot of its threat once you know the set and can position yourself better around it, although its absolutely excellent for punishing bad positioning.

~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~

Its no secret that Roserade's usage has dropped considerably this month since the DLC. Do you still find it to have a strong niche in the UU tier though, or do you find that Skarmory and Jirachi's presences make it very difficult to use?

To lead this discussion off, I brought up how that while the tier gained Pokemon capable of completely walling it in the above mentioned Pokemon, its still very effective at setting Spikes/Toxic Spikes on them, and in general because it threatens a lot of common removers right now in like Rotom Mow/Wash and Weezing-Galar. I mentioned how I believe its main niche right now to be that of more of a utility sort of role, where it provides hazard support, and more importantly is capable of crippling Pokemon like Jirachi with Stun Spore, to really enable a lot of Pokemon that hate having Scarf Jirachi revenge kill it like DD ttar or SD terrakion.

People commented on how its defensive utility is also much less present in the current metagame, and the defensive utility it offers is generally provided better by Pokemon like Slowking/Celebi, the latter in particular who can check all the Pokemon Roserade checks but better, especially Keldeo, and also checks Starmie. Comments were also made on how that while it threatens Pokemon like Weezing-Galar/Slowking/Rotoms, it being unable to outspeed Krookodile is really unfortunate, while its usually limited to a more offensive utility role due to the presence of hard checks on most teams now, and that Boots usage being higher means its spikes can often take less effect.

~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~

Noivern and Incineroar were the two best Pokemon pre DLC in UU, both being S rank pokemon that were found on a majority of teams. How viable of options do you find them to be in the current metagame however?

The dominant feeling in the UU room was that Incineroar faces a lot of competition from other Dark-types, especially Krookodile, in this current metagame. I brought up however how it does have a niche as a really excellent Jirachi check, and while it can't hold Chople Berries unlike other Dark-types for CM Jirachi, its still got the bulk to check that if kept healthy. People also commented on how Polteageist can often put in a lot of work against Krookodile teams, and that Incin eroar is a nice option to deal with what they consider to be an underrated threat rn in Tea.

SD Incineroar was also commented on as being quite decent at breaking through typical Blissey + Slowking + Skarmory type builds Such sets do struggle a lot with the uptick in Rotom-W and Keldeo usage though, and end up being unreliable at best.

A few people commented on how Noivern's excellent speed tier still makes it quite useful in dealing with a lot of the offensive threats in this metagame. I specifically commented however on how it being unable to deal with Lycanroc and needing decent amounts of chip on Terrakion makes it sort of limited in terms of when it can actually be used however, especially with a lot of teams wanting speed control options like Mienshao/Jirachi specifically because they deal with Lycanroc so well.

Another thing me and a few other people cmmented on as far as Noivern goes is that offensively, it definitely benefits from the lack of Sylveon usagee right now while its a great initiiator with U-turn for Pokemon that can abuse Blissey/Slowking trying to switch into it, in a similar vein to how it used to do similar things for mons like Roserade by bringing it in on Rhyp/Sylveon. A few people commented on Taunt being a nice option on Bulky offense teams, but that they find it quite difficult to fit usually.

~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~

Now that Rillaboom has risen to OU, do you feel that Alolan Raichu teams featuring Pincurchin are viable options in UU?

Simple answer - yes, very one dimensional but not particularly matchup fishy really.

These sort of teams are very one dimensional a lot of people expressed, but they tend to still be very effective in most matchups purely due to how absurdly dangerous Alolan Raichus damage output is. While Alolan Raichus bulk is absolutely horrendous, it outspeeds literally everything in the tier, and can put in incredible work with its +0 Life Orb Rising Voltages, really not remotely demanding that it actually set up to win a lot of the time after breaking down the opposing teams.

Pincurchin was definitely felt to be rather a useless and one dimensional Pokemon by most people, purely there to facilitate these structures and set up terrain/memento for raichu, unlike Rillaboom which was absolutely a top tier threat itself. A few people commented on how its still not totally dead weight however, its rising voltages are still fairly powerful itself and scald can krook off guard if not careful. The real danger it realistically offers is in its ability to set memento up and easily allow a Raichu 6-0 if it can punish bad positioning, because of how absurd Raichus damage output is at +2, leaving it with absolutely no defensive counterplay outside of Celebi or stalling out terrain turns to revenge kill it.

I also brought up how these sort of structures enable Electric Seed Necrozma, which is still a very dangerous set in the current metagame, but the Pokemon doesn't really see a huge amount of usage anymore with Rillaboom gone, making it quite easy to punish teams with since its not being prepped for at all, and despite gaining a few more natural checks to it how it can really weaken opposing teams to enable Raichu to just spam rising voltage and win.

The general opinion was that these sort of teams are definitely viable, but have a very strict structure. While its pretty obvious what they are going to do at preview, these teams still are very dangerous in forcing good positioning from the opponent to prevent Raichu setting up and 6-0'ing, and pokemon like necrozma can be dangerous threats to deal with in their own right. Raichu is fantastic at cleaning up weakened teams, and doesn't really suffer from matchup problems too much except for like First Impression users and Celebi.

lyd why is your art so good

As mentioned in the previous Brain Teasers thread, Brain Teasers will now officially be part of the UU Room Events, meaning all Project Hosts will now be able to host this. Make sure to now watch out for it on our calender in this thread and in the UU room calender (viewable by typing "/roomevents" in the PS room).

Our calender is currently up to date for the rest of the week, although some more events may be added closer to the time. Make sure to come along for our first brain teasers session this Friday at 9pm GMT+1!

Thursday 23rd Seminar

What are your thoughts on Kyurem in the current metagame?

Most people instantly commented on the fact that its one of the scariest wallbreakers in the tier. People mentioned how it suffers from the omnipresence of Jirachi however, and how it can often struggle in matchups against Pokemon like Blissey, Sylveon, Klefki, SpDef TTar depending on its set. Moutemoute rightfully brought up that Specially defensive Escav is a fantastic answer to Kyurem, while I commented on how its generally an underappreciated Pokemon right now for being the single best answer to CM rachi at the same time. People also mentioned how its Rocks weakness makes Specs sets far less scary in practice.

I also asked whether people had tried out any different sets, such as Twilight's Mixed LO Outrage set, which is cool to catch blissey while having a lot of longevity. Moutemoute mentioned how he'd tried Sub Protect DD Icicle Spear sets that other people such as CBU had brought up in disc before, but said that he finds them to be heavily inconsistent due to their inability to braek through Steel-types, especially suffering with Jirachi's omnipresence.

What methods have you been using in teambuilding to deal with Jirachi's more dangerous sets in Calm Mind and Mixed Jirachi?

A lot of people commented that they usually prefer to just rely on offensive counterplay to these sets, with Pokemon like Lycanroc-Dusk, Terrakion, Scarf Krookodile, and Mienshao. Typically even when put into a bad spot against Calm Mind Jirachi, Slowking can usually pivot in and Teleport out into an offensive check at the cost of a decent chunk of its hp after Regenerator. Options like Chople Krookodile were also mentioned as one time checks to CM rachi.

People however did discuss some more interesting counterplay options to Jirachi, such as Escavalier and Umbreon. Umbreon in particular is able to pretty much 1v1 all Jirachi sets through its monstrous special bulk and ability inner focus, making it a really underrated option on balance and fat teams currently, while also being a great option at maintaining solid meta picks like Weezing-Galar currently. This discussion also produced the following brain fart from me where i seem to think Calm Mind Escavalier exists,

[17:20] #estarossa: well escav still deals with kyurem and cm escav excellently

~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~*%*~

As some people may have seen in the NP thread, Adaam discussed Terrakion and whether or not it should be banned from the tier. How do you feel on the topic?

Opinions on Terrakion were split. Some people including Moutemoute believed that it has enough offensive counterplay with stuff like Lycanroc-Dusk and Scarf Jirachi/Mienshao, and that its easy enough to pivot into something like Slowking first to get into the offensive counterplay. Twilight mentioned that Mimikyu is a nice option for a check to Terrakion on more offensive teams due to Disguise. People also mentioned that it can often struggle to get safe set up opportunities, making such pivoting plays not as risky as they sound.

Other people such as me and Avarice specifically commented on how however we believed this Slowking play to be too risky to really be considered a reliable way of dealing with Terrakion due to Terrakion being able to OHKO full HP Slowking at +2 with Life Orb. We also commented on how in general the extremely limited defensive counterplay, with only Palossand truly dealing with it, as Doublade really struggles with EQ variants, combined with the rather limited offensive counterplay with either base 110+ speed Pokemon or scarfers which are unable to switch in, makes Terrakion problematic, especially in a generation where its speed tier is so much better to the point that it can easily find a lot of opportunities versus even more offensive teams.

Another problem I brought up was how even though Scarf Jirachi is extremely common and capable of revenge killing Terrakion, in reality the Jirachi user is often put on the back foot in such situations as U-turning on Terrakion can be extremely deadly if it stays in assuming you have no good switch ins, while clicking Iron Head is extremely punishable and predictable especially against offensive teams capable of abusing this.

Friday 24th Brain Teasers

Congratulations to TJE Spectre for winning this session of Brain Teasers! We had an absolutely enormous 7 way tie for 2nd place, so won't name drop the rest. Questions and answers can be found below as always :)

Question 1 - On turn 1, a level 100 Max SpA Max Speed Celebi leads vs a level 100 Milotic. Milotic moves second, and OHKOs Celebi with Ice Beam. How did this happen?

Competitive milotic, Celebi used Psychic and got a special defense drop

Question 2 - On turn 1, a player leads with a Choice Scarf Jirachi. At the beginning of turn 2, Jirachi as 1% HP left, and the opponent switches out into a Rough Skin Rocky Helmet Druddigon as Jirachi clicks Iron Head. How is Jirachi still alive at the end of turn 2?

Tricked turn 1 to recieve protective pads

Question 3 - On turn 1, a Calm Mind Jirachi leads off and clicks Calm Mind. On turn 2, how does it OHKO a Sylveon a level 100 Max HP Max Def Bold Sylveon that switches into it, without a critical hit? Jirachi does not have any supereffective moves to hit Sylveon with.(edited)

Jirachi has weakness policy + stored power. +3 252 SpA Jirachi Stored Power (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Sylveon: 378-445 (95.9 - 112.9%) -- 75% chance to OHKO

Question 4 - On turn 2 of a standard UU game, a Jirachi flinches an Inner Focus Umbreon. How did this happen? Umbreon did not have its ability changed.(edited)

Turn 1, Jirachi uses skill swap against a Mold Breaker Druddigon, Druddigon attacks Jirachi, triggers Red Card and switches to Umbreon.

Thursday 25th July Seminar

The UU Council is currently holding a vote on Diggersby, Dracozolt, Haxorus, Ninetales-Alola and Venusaur. Do you think one/some of this UUBL could be reintroduced in Underused ? What are your thoughts on them ?

Some players explained that they woudl like to see Venusaur unbanned even tho some of them agreed that Venusaur was probably still too much for the tier. Dracozolt was the Pokemon the more brought on the table as the more manageable one. Wuhoodude also highlighted the fact that Dracozolt is a bit like Mamoswine, a powerful breaker which is kinda slow. Since Mamoswine is way more manageable now, it may also be the case for Dracozolt. Most players agreed that Ninetales-Alola was probably still too much and way more effective than Grimmsnarl by being able to set both screens at once with Aurora Veil. pif also highlighted the fact that the majority of our defoggers can really defog vs Ninetales-Alola which may be an issue to prevent it to set with ease its Aurora Veil. ayiyiy explained that Haxorus was probably still too hard to deal with since there isn't a lot of Pokemon in the tier which can handle a Choice Band Mold Breaker Earthquake. FAT PINKK added that even without Scale Shot, Haxorus at +1 is really scary to face. pif concluded that Escavalier was probably still the best option to deal with Haxorus. Diggersby was the last Pokemon we talked about and while some players said that it could be manageable, they also mentionned that it would probably not bring anything really interesting in Underused outside of another strong breaker / setup Sweeper.
Hatterene has been underrated for quite a long time but more and more it shines as a great potent threat. What do you think of this Pokemon ?

Almost everyone in the chat agred that Hatterene is a really good Pokemon in the current metagame as it can threaten really effectively common defensive cores with Blissey + Skarmory + Slowking. Overall players agreed that CM Hatterene is able to threaten really hard defensive teams which forces some Pokemon like Skarmory to run Iron Head in order to deal with it a little better. Most players also agreed that Jirachi is the best check to deal with Hatterene but it needs to be careful since AV Hatterene can cripple it with Nuzzle. AV Hatterene has been brought has a better option in more offensive builds while CM Hat fits well on more bulky teams. Some players also mentionned that if Jirachi was banned, Hatterene would be a threat that we must look at really carefully. I mentionned that I struggle to play with AV Hatterene because I feel like AV Reuniclus is better with Knock Off and Regenerator but pif and ayiyiy highlighted that Nuzzle + Magic Bounce was definitively a reason to pick Hatterene over Reuniclus. ayiyiy also said that while Hatterene was definitively a great Pokemon, it wasn't the most splashable Pokemon due to its lack of recovery and the fact that it's a Fairy which doesn't resist Knock Off.
Bisharp has a good chance to drop in Underused next month, do you think it's a good thing for the tier ?

Bisharp was definitively a hot topic ! Sickist complained about it and said he was hoping that SSUU HO would not become has threatening as they were at the end of SMUU. Some players also mentionned that Bisharp was a really good addition to Sticky Web teams which kind struggles in the current metagame. KrookKing highlighted a fun fact which is the number of great and viable Dark-types in the tier and that it would be possible to make an entire and viable team with only Dark-types. Some people highlighted the fact that defensive checks to Bisharp are pretty limited but it has some viable offensive checks such as Obstagoon, Keldeo or Terrakion. All in all, Bisharp looks like a dangerous but manageable addition to the tier. Any last word Sickist ?

Thanks to all the participants for their contributions. See you next time for a brand new seminar !

End of Month Approaching

The end of our first month of succesful room events is drawing to a close. I'd firstly like to thank all the people who have helped out with hosting these, and all those who have participated in the different events and helped them be as succesful as they could be.

As far as the tour leaderboard goes, with 2 days to go we are currently sat at the following for the top 5. The full leaderboard can be found here. If you have been playing some of your games on alts and I didn't recognise these accounts and give all of your points to a single account, please do get in touch with me and provide proof of your alts so that I can merge your points.

The way we will be approaching ties

As there is currently a tie for first place in terms of points, I'll briefly cover our plan for resolving ties and include this in the OP too, so as to give fair warning. Any ties in terms of points will be settled by who has more overall Wins, or by whoever has been runner-up more often if Wins are also tied. If 1st place is still tied after this, both players will fight a Bo3 to determine the winner.
