(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

This has to be grounds for an infringement lawsuit right? I mean even the audacity of the name ffs.

What pokémon got affected most by changes in the remakes of their games?

Mankey deserves a mention. In Red it doesn’t get any Fighting move until Submission TM which is an awful move in game due to recoil and accuracy. While it can learn Dig it’s pretty underwhelming compared to how it performs in FRLG. In FRLG it gets Fighting Karate Chop super early, Brick Break...

    Unpopular opinions

I will say it has the best shiny, by far: But Infernape is the best designed overall and it's really not even close. Just look at this magnificent bastard with his fiery mane flowing in the wind: Blaziken's awkward lookin' ass is bringing up the rear for sure: The first Pokemon I ever said...

Big brain combos you've used in-game

I remember doing a run of Pokemon Yellow in like middle school where I tried to simulate Red's GSC team as best I could. So I had Pikachu, Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, Snorlax, and...Mew. My team was super underlevelled heading into the champion fight (like around level 38) because I just...

GSC In-Game Tier List Mark V

FWIW regardless of game, I don't think there even should be many S tier placements in an in-game tier list in the first place. It literally falls outside the normal A-F hierarchy and should only be allotted to mons with literally exceptional performance. If I think of most Gens 1 - 5 games there...

Little things you like about Pokémon

That fight did produce two of my favorite moments in the series though. One, when Sceptile hits Darkrai with Leaf Blade it's flat out one of the most cathartic things I've ever seen given the level of bs Ash was up against. And two, when Ash pulls his hat backwards just like the old times when...

(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

Many of the things I've posted on this thread end up being rather (big) things that annoy me. So in the spirit of the actual thread title, a little thing I do get annoyed by is the inconsistency between moves' PP and their accuracy. For example, I'm not really sure why Thunder, Fire Blast...

Little things you like about Pokémon

On the topic of non-MSG banger themes, can't help but point this one out: A certified classic for us 8-bit old heads. Unironically one of the better boss themes I've heard in any game.

Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 In-Game Tier List (Reboot)

The experience argument within tiering is a bit of a slippery slope (starts with a T, rhymes with explosion) and I certainly don't want to go into a policy discussion on this thread. But I try to put myself in the shoes of a casual when thinking of these things and one, I do think many casuals...

    Unpopular opinions

Here's a wildly unpopular opinion - I actually like the slowness of Gen 4...to an extent. I will say DP took it way too far but HGSS and Platinum's engines hit it just right as far as game speed for me. Particularly with move animations, I found the HGSS and Platinum attacks to be much more...

Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 In-Game Tier List (Reboot)

I'm not sure you'll consistently have Quiver Dance by E4. That's level 59 for a Slow EXP mon in a game in which the champ caps out at level 59. In my experience with B2W2 my team of six capped out at 57-58 by endgame and that was without any Slow EXP mons. I got to side with Drums on this one...

What are the most defining moves of in-game playthroughs to you?

I'll go in a slightly different direction for Gen 4. I would have to say Dragon Rush is the most defining in-game move in Gen 4. The Cynthia and Lance battles in Platinum and HGSS respectively are two of the hardest fights in the series in my opinion (the latter being my vote for the single...

(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

Contrast her to Lorelei who shows what a real Ice type E4 member should look like. Not only does she use five unique fully evolved mons (something no other Kanto E4 member does) but her one outlier of Slowbro still makes sense as it utilizes the two secondary types of her other four mons (Water...

Little things you like about Pokémon

Here's a little thing I like in DPPt that I wish was continued in other games: Dr. Footstep. Specifically I like how he tailors his quotes to how your Pokémon is classified: Cute, Tough, Scary, Slow, or Voiceless. I like this because not only did he track happiness but he did so in a rather...

Little things you like about Pokémon

Only point I disagree with is this one. It's for the reasons I've stated that are exactly why I find Cyrus a compelling character - because he is a true, unadulterated villain. He is a bad guy, make no mistake about it and unfortunately bad people do exist in the real world. Everyone has there...

Little things you like about Pokémon

Transitioning to a different topic, DPPt makes an interesting, subtle (though most likely completely inadvertent) commentary about depression. Probably best fleshed out in Platinum, I've recently come to appreciate the two sides of the same coin dynamic between Volkner and Cyrus, particularly as...

Little things you like about Pokémon

I never thought Blaziken looked like a Digimon but I will say it's the Pokémon responsible for my first "that doesn't look like a Pokémon" moment, which might annoy some. I distinctly remember as a prepubescent 12 year old playing Ruby not even having an issue with Combusken. But when it...

(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

It's weirdly programmed though. Normally the Platinum and HGSS AI will just choose the move that does the most damage, unless your Pokémon has very little health left. It takes a weirdly specific set of circumstances for them to use a recharge move. Which is in and of itself something (little)...
