Why does everyone say Mega Venusaur is bad?

It's less the Pokemon involved than that I need 3 to do it. I understand different Pokemon can fulfill the same roles. But I disagree that any Pokemon other than Jirachi, Chansey, and Bronzong can "wall" Tapu Lele. At best you take 40% + SR with most of her so-called checks, she switches out...

In a one-on-one setting that's true, but switching in after Chansey means it'll just get its Wish/Heal Bell/Softboiled off on a less offensive-oriented Pokemon and switch out. Gengar has difficulty breaking a Toxapex/Tangrowth core if they spam-switch due to extreme difficulty in getting rocks...

Lele is not faster than most sweeper-level threats, unfortunately, and it's not really bulky enough that its low speed would allow it to take a hit and attack back.

Are there any sweepers/wallbreakers that are threatening to both HO and stall? Essentially, I have room for one threat on my team and I'm not sure what gets the job done most. I don't run U-turn or Volt Switch on any Pokemon, so it'll usually have to come out after a kill or on a good...

I don't know if you mean the current gen, but in XY Will-o-Wisp defensive Mega-Charizard-X appeared out of nowhere and started tearing up its regular counters. It had mostly been run as a bulky DD sweeper until then. Back when Aegislash was in OU, it developed a horribly annoying SubToxic set...

I haven't been using Skarmory because HJK does nasty damage to it even with max defenses and the threat of Magnezone is real. Probably Zapdos is the best thing out there...I really need to find another Defogger, though. Astoria, the problem with Doublade is that offensive teams can switch out...

SR weakness gets it killed when playing against adept Stall players.

What hard-counters M-Pinsir, Hawlucha, Kartana, and M-Scizor besides Zapdos? Also are there any places around here I can bump heads with a decently high-ranked player (1700+) about teambuilding other than making a full RMT?

I like it; I've been running the same thing with Shadow Ball over Will-O-Wisp so I can have immediate power as well as taking advantage of a status'd enemy when possible. I think the real problem is that Gengar really misses Black Sludge, but since (a) no Levitate and (b) Fairies have...

Are there any creative Gengar sets floating around? The 3-attack + Taunt set is kind of basic and gets worn down easily by hazards. I understand that with the ability nerf Gengar received SubDisable is basically dead in the water, but there has to be something better than "generic coverage...

Zapdos: Static or Pressure, and why? I've found Static to be invaluable for paralyzing Pokemon like Landorus-T on the U-turn or as a last-ditch stop-gap measure against boosted physical sweepers, but I notice that most high-elo players (2000+) run Pressure instead even when not on full stall...

Thanks for your reply! Unfortunately, it looks like that DOES sacrifice on special bulk. If we look at a common special attack Milotic might switch into in the OU metagame, Choice Specs Greninja's Dark Pulse, your suggested spread gives: 252 SpA Choice Specs Greninja Dark Pulse vs. 4 HP /...

Metagame USUM Memetagame Discussion was a mistake

Has anyone seen or heard of a not-terrible bulky Hydreigon? I've been experimenting with something a little slower with EVs in HP and SpDef but there are just so many fairies in the metagame...

I have the following Milotic: Milotic @ Leftovers Ability: Marvel Scale EVs: 148 HP / 224 Def / 136 SpD Calm Nature I'm not too good at math, so my question is this: is there any combination of EVs that will provide greater OVERALL BULK after a Marvel Scale activation without sacrificing...

I think the thing about Golisopod is you don't just put it on any team. You really want to pair it with something that needs a free switch-in and something that can clear rocks for it. Life Orb sets can work very well but I'd probably lean towards First Impression/Leech Life/Sucker Punch/Aqua...

http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7pokebankou-483009136 But it's not worth running Haze on Toxapex, right? ...People in this thread already know, but I wish I could show this replay to the Toxapex users on the ladder.

    On The Radar

Just pointing out that we technically don't know that the meta would be better with a nerfed Aegislash. That's putting the cart before the horse. In any case, I'd like to see it remain in its entirety or be banished in its entirety. This suggestion of lobotomizing pokemon so that they can...

    Metagame Metagame Discussion Thread

I'm seeing Mega Pinsir do quite a bit of work lately. Its middling speed is enough to make it seem like a Sharpedo amongst the Alola mons, and even after Aerilate's nerf, Return is brutal. Salazzle and Nihilego seem to have completely supplanted Gengar's niche as a fast special Poison...

    On The Radar

I'll leave my 2 cents. I see the current meta (still unborn, a yolk in its shell) as being held together, to some degree, precisely by those very pokemon we are looking at with a stern eye now. Hence, my prediction is that if one of these pokemon is banned, more and still more will have to...
