    In-game head canon

So, I was curious. Blue, of course, started the tradition of having a FWG core, with two of Arcanine/Gyarados/Exeggutor plus the starter, presumably to keep you from sweeping him with one catch. (how well that worked is another discussion). But not all rivals do that. So I went through the...

Little things you like about Pokémon

I did a Sapphire Nuzlocke once where I used Gameshark codes to be able to catch trainer pokes and RP'd as the first Rocket member to take on Hoenn. It was a blast. This series really has a lot of variety of playstyles if you want it to.

    Underrated Pokemon

On the subject of UFO's, I'm a big fan of :blipbug: :dottler: :orbeetle: It's an early-game bug, except that it's used basically for the inverse of what those are used for. It's basically useless at routes until 30, but with always-on XP share that's not a big deal. It's a dual-screener at lvl...

    Pokemon Evolutions that disappointed you?

I think the triangle body, as well as the snot nose on Cubchoo and the beard, are all intended to reference icicles. But all 3 of those are elements of the design I hate, so clearly someone screwed up.

What are Pokémon that failed as single-staged and why?

I like Castform 's design. I like form-changing mechanics, sue me. But actual usability, no, it's just bad. Straight-70 doesn't work even with a broken gimmick, and Castform's gimmick is underpowered. Thing is, anything you do with it to make it good on a rain or sun team fundamentally doesn't...

Game Corners will now be rated PEGI 18 (equivalent to ESRB AO)

But you can have simulated violence at PEGI 12. You can be a landlord at PEGI 3. Why is gambling where the line is drawn? Actually, that's wrong. Gambling isn't where the line is drawn, because stuff like Pokemon battles with a prize at the end are still fine. It's only gambling that resembles...

Game Corners will now be rated PEGI 18 (equivalent to ESRB AO)

Here's what needs to be true for this to be the correct decision: 1: gambling is bad 2: ultra-fictionalized depictions of gambling are bad 3: ultra-fictionalized depictions of gambling are so bad that they are significantly worse than things like arson, murder, or being a landlord, to the point...

    In-game head canon

Maria Sharapova is considered to have a rivalry going with Serena Williams. Her record is 2-19, and the last time Sharapova won against Ms. Williams was 2005. Given that, Calem considering himself Serena's rival doesn't seem too egregious, since he only loses 5 times in a row. The protag is...

(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

XY's visual designs for the E4 were excellent, agreed. I'd argue the Sun/Moon ones were fine as well. Not the best ever, but they got the point across and were clearly different from every other E4, which is good enough for me. Then there's SwSh. Like, I really like the gyms there. The gym...

What are Pokémon that failed as single-staged and why?

Can confirm, XY are great for letting you use stuff you can't in other games. Dunsparce, Farfetch'd, Kecleon, even Volbeat and Illumise come early enough that you could theoretically use them from lvl 10-25 or so. You know what else you get early there? :plusle: :Minun: Look, I get why they...

(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

In competitive, 1/4 recoil is basically losing 25% of your HP every time you faint a fellow sweeper, more when you faint a wall. Dealing 50% to something on the switch is basically an extra SR switch-in. That's pretty significant. In-game, recoil moves are a steady tax on your healing items and...

(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

Those aren't the only physical electric types, though. There's Arctozolt, Dracozolt, Zekrom, and Zeraora, all of which are extremely viable in upper tiers, and all of which have a signature physical move. There's also Thundurus-I, Tapu Koko, and Regieleki, all of which are good pokemon with...

(Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

Yeah, Raihan in general is just a pile of gimmicks. Dragon-type trainer with a Dragon/Steel ace? That would be a perfectly serviceable 8th gym. Doubles battle? Again, perfectly fine for an 8th gym. Actually uses weather? Great, that's the sort of thing that the games /should/ be doing to...

    Pokemon Evolutions that disappointed you?

My issue there is the Slakoth-Vigoroth-Slaking line as a whole. I like the idea of a mon that radically changes in appearance and method of battling as it evolves, so I'm fine with either Slakoth-Vigoroth-Bigoroth or Vigorlittle-Vigoroth-Slaking. But going from Tiny/Brown/Lazy to...

    Pokemon Evolutions that disappointed you?

What is the deal with fire starters? Almost no grass or waters have been mentioned, but everyone seems to have a fire-type final evo that ruined the mon you started your journey with. :fennekin: :delphox: For me it was XY. Fenneken was revealed and I was in love. An adorable fennec fox...

Game Corners will now be rated PEGI 18 (equivalent to ESRB AO)

So will this affect Star Wars games that have Pazaak and Sabaac? Would that answer change if someone started up a competitive Sabaac casino in Ukraine? What about the RC races in Yakuza? Can Pokemon still award you money for winning trainer battles, since that's essentially wagering on...

    Pokemon Legends - Arceus - 28th Jan 2022

GF will gladly hide any number of things for little-to-no reason and only reveal them, grudgingly, after the full carts leak. It changes somewhat from cycle-to-cycle, but they usually prefer to be miserly with information so that they can dominate the news cycle whenever they want in the final...

    Unpopular opinions

That's kind of reasonable for bats, though. They're incredibly proficient fliers, but they really don't look like it. Their wings move a LOT to get anything done, and that means they get a lot done. Look up vids of hunting bats or bats flying through obstacle courses, they look like they're...

What is your favorite Gen 8 Pokemon?

I really like all 4 of the fossils. It's just such an interesting change from anything the games have done before, has it's roots in actual history, and resulted in some absolutely unique designs. I will probably think of the fossils before anything else when discussing Gen 8 in the far future.

    Pokemon Legends - Arceus - 28th Jan 2022

If you're expected to catch 15 Shinx and evolve 3 of them, I could definitely see a Go-style 'grind them into candy' system being involved. Which would be a big change. I'm probably more likely to pick up BDSP at this point, since that guarantees me a 'normal' Pokemon game to play while I get my...
