SV OU #1000 Never Misses w/ Specs Gholdengo

#1000 Never Misses
Introduction:

Should I stop building teams and ladder to improve and get used to one team? Yes. Does that sound incredibly lame compared to building fun teams? Also Yes. This team is centered around Choice Specs Gholdengo, which has like... actually no safe switch in's. Gholdengo can nuke everything with the right move, and the few pokemon that can take any hits get crippled hard by trick. Gonna keep this brief so here is the team.

The Team:

Gholdengo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Good as Gold
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 24 Def / 252 SpA / 8 SpD / 224 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Make It Rain
- Hex
- Focus Blast
- Trick

Make it rain is Gholdengo's biggest nuke, going as far as being able to 2hko Kingambit after rocks without needing to switch ~70% of the time. Even Pokemon that would usually not mind eating Make It Rain like Ting-Lu and AV Hamurott still take around 40%. I chose to use Hex > Shadow ball despite having no direct status moves on this team because it reaches just about all the same 2hko's as shadow ball while being able to nuke Gliscor. With Scald and Steam Eruption from Alom and Volcanion spreading burns, it still has its time to shine late-game. Tera Fighting and Focus Blast is really what puts Gholdengo on the map. After tera, Gholdengo is able to secure 2hko's on Ting Lu, Tera Water Garganacl, Blissey, and AV Alomomola. Nothing is safe from this pokemon. Trick is used in the last slot to cripple teams when Gholdengo's massive damage isn't as needed as much as finding an opening for a different pokemon. We run enough speed to out speed Adamant Dragonite before any boosts. 24 Defense EV's allow Gholdengo to survive Dragonite Earthquake and Ogerpon_W Knock Off both after rocks damage. 8 SpD allows Gholdengo to survive Tera Ghost Shadow ball from Iron Valiant before any boosts.

Volcanion @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Water Absorb
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 176 HP / 128 SpA / 204 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Steam Eruption
- Fire Spin
- Sludge Bomb
- Taunt

Assisting Gholdengo in breaking teams is Volcanion. This trapping set does a fantastic job at breaking defensive cores. Water Absorb lets Volcanion completely wall Alomomola, and with tera ghost also Dondozo. Fire Spin and Taunt lets volcanion beat them by trapping and then preventing recovery. This also lets Volcanion trap mons like Slowking-G and Blissey. Steam Eruption gives Volcanion some real power to make it difficult to switch into. Sludge Bomb hits fairies and grass types hard, and eases his job trapping by spreading poison. 204 Speed is run to out speed uninvested Gliscor's and anything slower. 176 Hp allows Volcanion to survive 2 shadow balls from Gholdengo and 2 close combats from mixed Iron Valiant, as well as avoiding the ohko from defensive Great Tusk Headlong Rush or specs Dragapult's Draco Meteor. The rest is put into Special attack for power. Tera Ghost gives Volcanion a useful immunity to fighting moves, allowing it to fully wall Body Press dondozo and Seismic Toss Blissey, avoid hits from Zamazenta, as well as becoming a spin-blocker.

252 SpA Choice Specs Dragapult Draco Meteor vs. 176 HP / 0 SpD Volcanion: 289-342 (83.7 - 99.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
4 Atk Great Tusk Headlong Rush vs. 176 HP / 0 Def Volcanion: 282-332 (81.7 - 96.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
4 Atk Iron Valiant Close Combat vs. 176 HP / 0 Def Volcanion: 139-165 (40.2 - 47.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Gholdengo Shadow Ball vs. 176 HP / 0 SpD Volcanion: 145-172 (42 - 49.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Alomomola @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Scald
- Flip Turn
- Wish
- Protect

Alomomola came in next as my defensive pivot. Alo does a great job at getting Gholdengo in safely via Flip Turn and also keeping him healthy with Wish Passing. Scald cripples physical attackers with burns, which also helps Hex from Gholdengo smash things even harder. Tera Ghost is used to wall Idef Zamazenta which otherwise could become very annoying. Not too much to say about this pokemon, just Alo doing what Alo does.

Ting-Lu @ Leftovers
Ability: Vessel of Ruin
Tera Type: Poison
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Ruination
- Stealth Rock
- Rest

Ting-Lu is our special sponge and stealth rocker. With two water types I needed something that dismantled Raging Bolt with ease, so Ting-Lu was an easy choice. I decided to run rest on this Ting-Lu as while playing a main way this team was losing was by knocking off Ting-Lu's leftovers and wearing it down. With rest, Ting Lu doesn't have to fear coming in over and over. Wish Passes from Alom can keep him healthy if you find yourself in a situation stuck asleep. Tera Poison turns Ting-Lu into a great check to Iron Valiant which the team could otherwise struggle against.

Corviknight @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Dragon
EVs: 248 HP / 80 Def / 180 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 20 Spe
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- U-turn
- Defog

I needed some Hazard Control and ground resist at this point so I slotted in Corviknight. This also gave the team a good defensive core with Alom/Ting-Lu/Corv. Another slow U-Turn gets Gholdengo in safely more often. The ev spread is a nice mixed spread, and namely helps against Walking Wake sun teams and tanking Draco Meteors as that match up is fairly prediction reliant. Tera dragon gives Corviknight a resistance to fire and electric, as well as water from Ogerpon-W Ivy Cudgel. 20 speed ivs are run to have a slower u-turn against opposing Corviknight while still out speeding no invest Tyranitar and Clefable.

Iron Valiant @ Booster Energy
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Swords Dance
- Encore

Iron Valiant came in this team last with great role compression on what was missing. Speed Control, Dragon Immunity, Knock Off, and setup sweeper. Encore is needed to prevent opposing setup sweepers from running away with the game. SD Valiant is a great cleaner for this team, often catching opponents off guard. Tera steel is used for a poison immunity and fairy resistance. This team does a great job at wearing down physically defensive attackers, allowing Valiant to come in and usually clean up late game.

Conclusion

This team let me hit a new peak elo for this tier so I'm definitely happy with it, but at the same time I think it has some issues. It's a bit slow and HO with many setup sweepers can be really annoying. Especially Iron Valiant and Dragonite. I'm going to continue trying to make a great Specs Gholdengo team but so far this is the best I've got and the team is very fun and easy to use.

I'll say right now I'm trying to build something similar with Clefable and Zamazenta on the team, but it just doesn't feel as smooth. I've also tried using several different Iron Valiant sets and I'm not the most settled on liking one over the other.

Anyway this team is really fun for me, and any idea's on pushing this to the next level and balancing it out would be awesome!

Team looks solid, however there is one main issue with your team. Your team is just way too hazard weak, defog corv is a form of removal that gets hard blocked by gholdengo and your team is quite hazard weak. An offensive or bulky hstack with gholdengo is going to destroy your team. Moreover your team is just way too slow as well making sweepers super difficult to handle.

This is why I would replace :ting-lu: -> :iron-treads:

:sv/iron-treads:
Iron Treads @ Leftovers
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 HP / 152 SpD / 104 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Ice Spinner
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake

- This grants you a secondary form of removal while also granting you some of the defensive utility that ting-lu provided. Speed is for outspeeding great tusk while keeping the bulk for checking raging bolt and zapdos.

Moreover this team is just way too slow, booster iron valiant is nice speed control but its one time to fast sweepers like darkrai, weavile etc can just switch out and come back in when ival has used its booster energy. This is why I would like to replace :volcanion: - > :ogerpon:

:sv/ogerpon:
Ogerpon (F) @ Choice Band
Ability: Defiant
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Ivy Cudgel
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Rock Tomb

- This grants you some nice physical immediate power to assist SD ival and also grants you some great speed control with tera. This also grants you an ogerpon wellspring check which was originally super threatening to this team as SD wellspring was pretty much a autolose MU for you/

Set Changes:

:gholdengo: - Set seems fine but I would make this tera steel. With focus blast and specs you already destroy kingambit and you ohko assault vest hrott with stealth rock and tera steel specs MIR is super strong and provides some nutty calcs I would go with this for the sheer wall breaking potential

:alomomola: - I would make this :assault-vest: now instead. With the removal of ting-lu the team becomes a lot weaker to pokemon like darkrai and gholdengo. AV alo can some in and flip turn into ogerpon/ival to revenge kill

:gholdengo: - With the removal of volcanion you could consider shadow ball instead. Scald mola may be fine as the sole way to spread status but shadow ball is probably the way to go. I think that spreading burn with steam erruption is kind of a fantasy with hex ghold personally but if it worked it worked.

:corviknight: - I would make this :rocky-helmet: as you need a contact punisher and volt turn cores can become extremely difficult to deal with. Lefties is a fine choice though
